Similar fleet name

Hi,

It has recently come to the attention of our fleet that someone is "spamming ESD" with a fleet recruitment advert for a fleet name very similar to ours that is no relation to us.

We are "Infinite Empire".
The new fleet is called "The Infinite Empire" apparently.

I was wondering if there were any guidelines or rules surrounding fleet naming that I could refer to before I attempt a dialogue with the chap who may or may not know about us, or the similarity.

    I don't think there are any rules regarding fleet names as long as they are not offensive - in fact I think that there could be 50 fleets called - Infinite Empire

    I don't think the system restricts you from making a fleet name of 1 already in use

    you can also rename your fleet a will - so give it a try - add "The" and see if it sticks - if so then there is no rule.

    unfortunately no, Ninth Fleet has also encountered many "counterparts" in the game, (for the record, our fleet is almost 15 years old and dates back to SFC). Unfortunately there's nothing keeping other fleets from registering similar names. For a while, multiple fleets could even register under the same exact name, but that has been fixed.

    ok so they changed the exact name thing then - for a long time I was sure you could name your fleet the same as any other in the game which was kind of silly and I am sure led to some griefing.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    I guess with so many players it makes sense to have a hands-off approach to many areas of the game so that the moderation/admin team doesn't have to deal with every little thing that comes up between players/fleets.

    Hopefully the two fleets can work something out diplomatically.

    If the other fleet is using the similar name to defame you, then you can report them, but as far as I know, ESD recruitment spam in and of itself isn't sufficient cause to complain to the GMs about the other fleet's name.
