Yesterday i visited the Exchange on New Romulus and nearly got a heart attack. I think (and i know that many will disagree with me on that point) that the exchange needs to be regulated somehow. I usually upgrade my Ships with stuff from the exchange but now it is nearly impossible . Standard Mk VII Plasma Banks for 90.000 ??? In My opinion its okay if the Prices had 1,5-2 or at most 3 times the worth of whatever i sell (having in mind that rare stuff is already worth more) but not 20 times. WE have to thing about the starters,. For them its impossible to have so many EC. or they have to spend all they have everytime they get promoted and then spending lots of time and replay to gain enough EC again.
auction houses have never really had any sort of rule to govern what people can price things at..... im surprised they dont tax the exchange like other games do. take a certain percentage of the creds earned from each sale.
If something is very expensive then there is a high demand for that item.
You don't need to use cutting edge weapons or gear leveling up. The gear you get through the mission rewards is often on par with the missions themselves.
The only time where getting better gear is imperative is when you hit VA/LG. There you can still rerun missions to get decent gear, while hunting the exchange for the gear you need, or while running through the various rep systems. Also there is the fleet gear at VA/LG.
Leveling in this game is stupidly easy. You do not need very rare gear at your highest tier to do so.
Regulating a self-regulating system only deregulates and irritate a system until noone gets what they want.
First of all; VII are more expensive then XI very rares, why? Because there are more users who are leveling and buying than leveling users who are selling.
This states that there is a higher demand with a lower supply.
You can regulate this system yourself by buying the cheapest weapon types. This way you get what you want (VR weapon at a lower price) and the seller will reduce their price over time because the need is lessened.
Don't complain about anything less than X or XI gear's prices - anyone selling those are looking to make a quick buck because so little of the leveling players actually sell things. Unless you REALLY need it, there is no reason to not just load up the greens you get from missions and never have to buy from the exchange. They are never gonna regulate exchange prices. Ever.
You don't need the best gear when leveling up. Honestly, I'd run low level fleet actions with my Akira and later Defiant, get 1st with ease thanks to Escort burst and always walk away with 2 low level purples that always sold for a staggering sum on the exchange. Even if it was an upgrade to what I was wearing, if it was selling for a million creds I would part with it anyway, taking consolation in the fact that a green in a few levels more will be just as good. I wouldn't even bother to buy blues or higher until you hit rear admiral and are looking at mark tens; when gear gets dirty cheap (but before mark 11's and 12's when the price reach astronomical levels).

All of this, and I'll reiterate that supply and demand is king. For every item that is "outrageously priced", there are hundreds posted at below their listed value, and many at below their recycle value.
As for buying overpriced gear for leveling, it really is a waste of EC since you won't be in that ship for more than a few days at most.

Why would you buy standard lower-level gear off the exchange anyway?
Buy the cheap stuff from the shipyards. Common white quality lower-level stuff is MORE than good enough for running the missions for a few hours.
I just levelled a KDF-Rom to L50, when I got a new ship I bought common white plasma DHCs from the shipyard for peanuts and used them. They were perfectly good enough until I reached L40 and got dirt-cheap Mk X gear.
Yeah, its the monthly, the exchange prices suck thread. I havent seen a wheres the T5 Connie one yet nor the KDF whiner thread yet nor the AFK whining, no wait that one just got bumped a couple of days ago.

Prices drop on their own. If tjhey are so high, no one buys and when that happens those of us who have stuff up there who actually WANT to sell it will drop them after a time. I've done house-cleaning on stuff that stays up more than a couple weeks, and will like slash my prices in half by puling them down an reposting.
The "All" function doesn't give you the lowest price. If you're using it, you've overspent EC.
The Exchange works off simple supply and demand. Warp core prices have crept down and engineering consoles took a hit due to the dil mine. Purple doff prices crept up due to a recent supply hit. Suliban ships are so hard to get and desired by doffers that the price has adjusted accordingly. You get the point. I'd be worried about people holding on to TAC consoles, they are next in line to take a hit with whatever the next fleet holding is.
i would prefer that people selling get a bit smarter about it, prices drop because of the undercut sales more than anything. puting an item up for 1k ec more than a vendor will buy it is not worth the time to look it up to get a price and posting anything under 10k ec is not worth it. So if any regulation a minimum sale point at marked value. How do you like them apples OP?

Not needed, the market auto regulates this from people that like making some change.

I don't have any issue finding lowest prices with all and narrowed search terms. I frankly don't use the categories at all.... they're pretty much useless.
And more often than not my searches are to look at competitor prices on specific gear or close matching gear to undercut them.

Hah! Nice. You're overspending hugely.
Unless you set the rarity correctly in the "all" section, you won't be shown the lowest price.
As for all the other categories being useless, well, you're obviously not someone who hawks the exchange looking for bargains.

I always scroll to the last page just to laugh at the insane prices.

Aside from the fact that the "all" function hasn't worked in what, six months?

Frankly you can run missions over again to get leveled blues if you want them that badly.
?Everything Old is New? for the retro phaser banks....
"Installation 18" for the piercing tetryons (as an added bonus you get to lvl up you kill rommie accolade for the wall trophy).
Find a mission that rewards to weapon you want and run it.

How do you determine prices for the things you sell? Let's say you want to sell a rare Gravimetric doff, do you search for everyone of them by name?
