ive saved up 3k+ omega marks now and about to reach tier V, im looking at the MACO or Borg set, which one do you think would be better for a charal escort? or is there some mix that could work?

I typically run, and I think the consensus is, the MACO deflector and shield with the Borg engines, on my escort and beam boat cruiser. I have done well though as well running the full MACO set or the full Borg set instead of mixing.

I will say though that I have just come back recently to the game after a LOOOONG hiatus, so I am sure someone else might be able to answer a little more in detail. Make sure to check the Builds forum and Fed Shipyard forums too. I found most of what I needed to get up to date there.

Either set works well for escorts. MACO set has far better shield capacity while the Borg set has some awesome healing procs. Most people will tell you to run the borg deflector and borg engine with MACO shield if you dont mind losing out on all the set bonuses....

MACO and assimilated? For an ESCORT? This seems odd.

Honor Guard is a good choice if you intend to run torps in your build. But if you are primarily running energy weapons the Omega deflector and shield for the two piece bonus (tetryon glider) with the Borg or Aegis engines should be far more effective on an escort. MAcO is a very effective tank set. Assimilated gives good self heals from time to time but the regenerative shield isn't that good against spike damage, and escorts dont have as much hull to depend on the assimilated heals so need a real heal, thus the MACo shield. But the purpose of the escort is damage. Tetryon glider allows more damage to get to hull faster with whatever energy weapon type you use so you kill faster.

Maybe I'm wrong. But I don't think so.

    Borg Engines/Deflector
    Maco/Elite Fleet shield.

This is by FAR the best combination for an escort nowadays, and pretty much every Kumari runs with it. The borg engines/deflector set bonus is a huge buff to hull regeneration, I run my Kumari without any hull heals because I simply don't need them. That way I can squeeze DEM in for MOAR POWER.

Op for me as a player it came down to one question, what is a escort? It is a ship that is mostly tactical. This means you are not going to have a major shield regen abilities, so you are not going to be able to bring your cov shields back up to full strength. I have never really seen anything good out of a resilient shield, nor have I spent much time with one, so I cant say on that subject. Using the Borg regenerative shield does the job nicely. Combined with your lack of shield abilities, you should beable to keep your shields up. Keep in mind though, there is most defiantly something blowing ships up at full health. I was in a elite stf the other day my shields were at half strength, my hull was at a 100 percent, and my ship went boom from what I do not know.

You do know that they nerfed the advantages of this right?

OP, do not listen to these folks...run either full fleet gear or a full MACO or BORG set, you will be fine.

Alot of people do not bother to read stats on the deflectors, etc. There is nothing wrong with using borg or maco set on an escort. All i run on my tac/escorts are is the MK XII borg and I by far can lay down higher numbers than anyone else in my group..of course im using accx2 fleet weapons and mk XII very rare tac consoles as well.

You just said the exact reason why shield strength>shield regen. On an escort, it will mean the difference between life and death from a Borg torp. Even on a bigger ship.
EPtS + shield damage resistance is enough to make your ship tank any energy weapon in eSTF. It will also help to survive a torp. You don't really need much more.

I use the borg 2set + MACO, as I did before the nerf. There is no reason to use any other set, they either have good bonuses/bad item, or the contrary. The tetryon glider look fun, but it will not increase your DPS a lot. The Honor guard is quite good, if you like torp.

that's either green ball from a cube or invisible torp from gate. green ball has raw damage of ca 100k. you need a lot of hull resists to survive it and a full shield whole the time.

I run on my JHAS and my Fleet Hafeh:

    Borg Engine MK XII
    Borg Deflector MK XII
Advanced fleet resilient shield Res A or B

This works very, very well :)

It threw me through a loop, because I did not see any Borg torp, as far as shields go. Whats the point of a cov shield, when you maybe able to keep it at what 25 percent at best in a escort? Grant it this only applies to tacts in escorts, as engineers have the ability to keep a cov shields up.

It's available for the Feds also via T5 Omega Rep. It's listed as Adapted MACO and only comes in the Mk XII flavor.

As others mentioned, there's several draws to the KHG/Adapted MACO gear.

Shields: Very high capacity Covariant shields with Placate procs.

Efficient Engines to boost power to subsystems with low available power, as well as great turn rates.

Very Sci-Friendly Deflectors that do alot of things for SCI.

2 piece generic torpedo damage boost.
