licensing in my opinion isn't the main road block here, at least to me it isn't. Someone in Cryptic has to take the initiative and really hammer down an agreement. Constantly pressing the issue to the top management from both sides.
The JJ Enterprise and Vengeance have been asked numerous times on the forums, but we will never get it due to copyright laws. Besides its from a completely different dimension with the STO universe having absolutely no knowledge of anything that goes on the JJ universe. The Galaxy X was observed by Picard in the series finale so he could have sent a report about it and the Mirror Universe ships are seen a ton due to Mirror Universe incursions into Federation space. So even though those ships originate in other dimensions like the JJ ships, there are reasons to have them unlike the JJ ships. Only JJ ship that we could have are the Jellyfish and Narada unless there are copyright issues.
why never? STO recently released the scimitar from Star Trek Nemesis.
Licenses.
Everything, TV shows and all movies up till Nemesis fall under CBS, which in most cases means Cryptic can use it if CBS approves.
Anything JJ is licensed by Paramount, which Cryptic has no agreements with, so no, you will never see things like JJ Enterprise, JJ BOPs, the Narada, the Jellyfish or that ridiculous looking dreadnought USS Vengeance.

Star Trek Nemesis is not JJ Star Trek. STO's Usable Canon goes up to Star Trek Nemesis and covers part of JJ Star Trek with the destruction of Romulus.

Cryptics license also covers many aspects of the post nemesis novels as well, that is why elements of the path to 2409 have little bits and pieces of them.
OP, the 2 new Star Trek movies directed by J.J.Abrams are copyrighted by Paramount.
The Star Trek liscence that Cryptic has is from CBS.
Furthermore, the new movies follow an alternate timeline while STO is part of the prime universe. So basically in STO we can have anything that is covered by CBS liscence or CBS/Paramount shared liscence and prior to the destruction of Romulus and Nero & Spock's voyage into the alternate timeline as those events have happened in the prime universe.

Not that I want the FSM awful JJverse Klingon ships in the game, but your mention of the Narada makes me wonder, how did they get around the ships from the tal shiar lock box? Aren't they basically the same as the Narada? But because they're inspired by, they're ok? How is the vault and red matter capacitors allowed?
Let us upgrade the Seleya Ceremonial Lirpa and Kri'stak Blade

All the pre-JJ Abrams Star Trek material (the 6 TV series and 10 feature films) are licensed to CBS (who also controls the IP rights to STO.) Rights to anything from ST:Nemesis is thus controlled by CBS and fair game to be included in STO.
The Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek: Into Darkness material is licensed to Paramount (now a totally separate company after the Viacom split); and while they have done some cross promotion in the past (Zachary Quinto doing VO work and promoting STO as well as the ST2009 film); CBS would have to license (IE make an agreement and pay a fee) anything from the ST09 or ST:ID films to get them into STO - and they aren't likely to do that when there's a wealth of material they already have rights to that can be put into STO; and net a larger return (since no further fees/agreements are needed.)

Licensing issues aside, why would anyone want a Ship that can be taken down by man-portable phasers? Those Birds of Prey were probably the weakest showing in all of trek for a supposed 'military vessel'

The Vault and the Red-Matter Capacitor were created in the prime timeline and are prior to Nero & Spock's travel into the alternate timeline. They are also mentioned in the Countdown comics, which is shared liscence between Paramount and CBS.

Indeed. Quite frankly they looked more like marine assault gunships rather then starships.

When Viacom split PAramount and CBS into seperate entities, virtually all of the old Star Trek IP through Star Trek:Enterprise was sold to CBS. Paramount kept motion picture rights and DVD distribution rights. So CBS owns anything that isn't JJ-Trek.

yeah and so was spocks jellyfish ship and the borg adapted narada are created in the prime timeline so technally we could use them but then again licensing stuff.

If you notice, the Adapted ships look like the Nerada, but not an exact copy. I would say that the joint countdown comic gave CBS some freedom to use certain items and designs from it, but not an exact copy....
as far as i know its something they are working on, as was mentioned the tal shiar ships are a result of their working on either clarifying the licenses or allowing some parts of the new films.

It's not the comic book. It's copyright law. You can't copy an embodiment of any idea. But you can create something along the same lines. Cryptic can't use the image of the Narada, but they can design ships that are inspired by it's borgified looks.

Never say never. There's always a chance something can be worked out. But dont expect to see it next week. That is for sure.
As for using JJtrek stuff in the game, Cryptic don't have the rights for it yet. Infact, I believe that why they havn't made a T5 Connie yet. But seeing the Tal Shiar Ship Designs, dose imply we may see more stuff inspired by JJtrek in the near future

What part of 'they can't use JJ-trek stuff' do people not understand? Since these questions keep coming up.
