Unexplored Star Clusters: Dilithium Gold mine?!

Okay, I don't know if anyone else has experienced this before, but i recently went to the Archanis Arm to begin working the Doff mission chain as well as for data samples for fleet projects and crafting.

I was surprised, while scanning anomalies, to find an uncommon loot drop containing a small dilithium ore container (480). I was like "WHAT?!" and I knew I had to come on here immediately to see if it has happened to anyone else.

I'd like to know more, too, if anyone has the information. How rare is this drop? Is it worth continuing to scan anomalies for more? Does it happen everywhere? Are there other strange loot drops that have also popped up in the star clusters? etcetera, etcetera

Scanning Anomalies can also result in Particle Traces which may or may not sell for a ton of EC.

Never gotten Dilithium but, would be nice.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.

I've had the dil thing happen once or twice. It's very rare, but it does happen.

I've also found Dilithium once in a star cluster. I don't know how rare it is, but apparantly it happens sometimes.

At best I've been able to find and scan four of those star cluster anomalies a minute. So unless the drop rate is better than 1:500 (which I doubt - I've scanned a lot of anomalies and I've never found dilithium) you're way better off running STFs.

Here too, found 480 dilithium in Arucanis once. Quite a long time ago. Not sure if it's a bug or an intentional bonus, but it's hardly worth dedicating a day to.

I have explored all ten zones 70 times each as well as charting the b'tran 50 times. I found maybe 10-12 small dilithium containers.

I done a ton of scanning stuff and those cluster missions. I have yet to find one of those. And this is on my Fed and KDF. I hadn't did a cluster yet with my Romulan as I been busy working on the story line on that one. I usually hit the clusters, after I do the story in the area. Or unless I'm trying to level up if I'm behind where I think I need to be at. Or can't continue story due to not of level.

Yep, I've struck gold in a "Scan five anomalies" map before. Not too long ago, so I don't know when they put this reward in. Seems to be extremely rare.

Don't sell Data sample for EC, its a waste. Instead stock up on them and use them for the data sample reports from your ship's science officer in your starship interior. You can only obtain this mission from your ship interior. 20 of each sample category rewards you 250 dil and 5 each of the rare samples rewards 500.

Like others have said, yes they do pop up from time to very long time.

I had it happen twice, on two different characters, in two different exploration clusters. One was Rolor nebula, forgot what the other one was.

Rather shocking to me too when I first saw it.

Had it happen once, on my Rihan character, in a Breen story mission.

Wow - didn't even know this was possible. Have never seen it. Then again, I haven't done a lot of scanning since before dilithium was in game. Get all my particle traces from DOff missions. :)

But my Romulan & Reman characters still have to do exploration clusters, so glad you posted that it's actually a possibility.

I had to look this up... http://sto.gamepedia.com/Assignment:Data_Sample_Analysis

Awesome, a reason to visit the interior! STOwiki mentions that the assignments are from the Engineering Lab Science Officer.

    Thanks for the tip!

You can craft gear with it.

Go to the Memory Alpha system in the Alpha Centauri sector block.
On the ground map, in the central room, you will find a console which asks for data samples in exchange for gear.

Crafting is also possible on a Tuffli Class Freighter bridge, so if you happen to have one, or if you can get a Bridge invite (for bridge invites: join channels "Call Tuffli" or "Public Service"), you can also craft there.

you can find Dilithium every day at starfleet academy by answering a lore question (480)

Even the klingons can do it too at klingon academy
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

JJ-Verse will never be Canon or considered Lore...It will always be JJ-Verse

The Romulans also get additional data sample to Dil DOFF missions in Tau Dewa. They tend to be rare.
