Why do I keep playing?

Seriously, Why do I keep playing this game?

I'm a Klingon player primary so I could care less bout my fed. The recent interview with Snake oil Dan made it pretty clear that we MIGHT get C-store ship later in the year as an "experiment" More fleet ships are a possibility for S10. Really all I got out of the expansion was a new skin for my B'Rel and the other C-store BoP should have been a skin for the Nourgh BoP.

Also, why haven't the scourge and corsair customization bugs been fixed yet? Its been a year sense the fleet system hit, they working as intended?

So aside from the shortage of ships and skin bugs, do you enjoy the game?

Your still playing because your a trek fan. SImple as that, and your a Klingon Fan. SImple as that. And, this is the only trek MMO in town and the only one there is likely to be for some time.

If your a LTM, take a break for a couple months.. though you might want to hold off and enjoy the summer event. AFter 3 years I have finally accepted that STO is not likely to ever be what I want as a Klingon player. Thy'll throw us a bone now and again now that they have the KDF lavel progression.. well, not finished, but at least doable... Most of the bugs are likely never going to get fixed because that takes away from making new shiny bits ddep pocketed geeks will shell money out for. Especially with the game being FTP..

I'd love to be a fly on the wall and know just how lucrative this MMO is..

Is he snake oil salesman? Yea, frankly, I would tend to agree, he is. Is this a bad thing? Depends on your point of view.. If your not a trek fan or a gamer, but a stockholder of PWI its a very very very good thing...He makes THEM money and that just happens to be his number one job.. If he keeps most of the consumers of STO hanging on for the next bit of shiny, and they pay for it... he's doing good...

A thing to remember.. If your not a LTM or Gold memeber, your a consumer.. and trust me the "consumers" of STO far outnumber the "Customers" (those with paid subs). They spend casually for shinies.. all they want is instant satifaction.. and instant satisfaction is what Dan Stahl is hired to provide.. Because those instant satisfaction customers provide more money in the short term, which is the more important time frame then we long term customer types.. I'm pretty sure Champions on line works the same.. the difference is its a small game with a dedicated fan base, and very few of them are F2P consumers. People sub after awhile in CO... and so, in recent months CO has been getting development and new content.. because most of thier players are customers not consumers...

When that happens to sto.. the bugs will get fixed or the game will close down because customers wont be retained..

It's really what I dispise most about the F2P MMO model.. its all about quick cash.. just nuff to get folks to spend money. Quality.. don't worry to much about that.. we'll have a new shiny bit in a couple months to distract...

I'm pretty sure that one of the main driving forces behind the studio finally putting together the KDF stuff was that old 18% of the player base number started dropping.. Had the KDF players just finally tossed thier hands in the air and said to hell with it, it would have been a disaster for the game... and the studio... long term pvP growth would have died right then and there, and even the most fed centric STO player would have noticed that the "red" faction finally gave up and left.

Humans react very predicatgbly to that sort of stimulas.. and the gaming press would have been somewhat forced to actually report some facts... STO would have suddenly gotten treated as a "Failed" MMO.. and it would have reflected strongly on the studio, and thier newest product NWO. My crystal ball says nasty things woulda happened.. and also says the folks with the real numbers moved on the KDF stuff because it was that or loose a portion of your player base who are typically NOT F2P consumers, but subscribed customers.. It would have crippled the game, and possibly due to STO rather high profile of being a trek game it could have crippled the studio..which would have irritated PWE, PWI, CBS, and a whole passle load of stock holders.

A truth about business that has been current for the last 30 years. Never spend any more then you absolutly have to to sell the product. Ditto on product maintainence. Fixing is not so important as selling. Never have a product warrenty that lasts longer then the product, and always be ready to discontinue a product line as soon as the new wears off.

The above might just explain why a lot of F2P MMO operate the way they do. There are a few acceptions... But Cryptic Studio's products are NOT on THAT list. I'm actually surprised Champions is still up.

To farm EC and dilithium. That gives me a satisfaction what can't be described in words. It's akin to the drog addcict getting her fix.

I don't do this to get ships or zen or things like that. I just like to see those asset numbers grow. Worshiping the demon of pure greed. This, is what keeps me going in this mad mad world.

I too am rather frustrated and disappointed at what's been implied by DStahl in this most recent interview.

I'm tired of half-truths, delayed deadlines, and all the other BS. I play this game because I'm a Trek fan and I like Klingons. That's about the biggest thing keeping me in this game. Even that will wear thin eventually, especially if a new Trek game comes out that seems better to my eyes.

A kickass KDF-oriented game/MMO could be a bit of a success if handled right, now that STO has been busy pissing off the KDF fanbase for the last few years. I don't think anyone has any respect for the word of Cryptic anymore when it comes to KDF matters.

Wd also got new content to fill in our level progression.
Dstahl also said we are definately on the list to get fleet/cstore or other versions of the ships many of you all want, like the Karfi, garumba and the like.

He also said new content is in the future against a new enemy and even the Undine in the future.

I think you are being too pessimistic and even a liitle weak in your reasons for complaining.
The interview held nothing but good news, even if some is farther out than we may like.

You got more than I did. All I got was this broken game and an empty mailbox. Heck, I couldn't even buy the fleetship upgrade modules I've been saving for because they had to break the website of one of the things that actually worked- the store.

Its not about what we got individually but what we got as a faction.
We've come a long way from the years of being openly ignored and treated like schatko.
Hell, the Devs even ignored the feds in the recent update to finish our 1-50 progression!!!

Yet we still act like children and blaim the past. Makes me angry I, and others, bothered to fight for the KDF since before the game even went live.
Have we become feds to always whine like children regardless of what has been done for us?

Diamond Dedication. And I thought the rep system was a hard grind. xD

of course, the dil exchange and special ship requisition packs do come in handy: when you reach that cap, you gotta free up space somehow, eh? :D

True, but what good is filler content for low level toons when most of us are at level cap ? Why are our new Romulan allies denied some lucrative dilithium dailies open to the 2 full factions ? Why are we still fighing over the cross-faction console mess ? Yes, it's about time the KDF got some love but all the toys and new starter content in the world doesn't make up for the bugs, lag, stealth nerfs, lack of communication and kicks to the groin we still get everytime a new patch is rolled out.

Keep up the fight tho, I appreciate it as do many others. I have to do it a different way tho.

3.5+ years and the KDF is almost an equal faction in this game, 4 weeks since launch and the Romulans are almost where we were a month ago.

I can not fault you for fighting you way but keep in mi d that 3.5 years of name calling got us where we are today.
Thats a long time. We may want to try a different method than name calling. It will only turn them against us.
Not that you where actually calling names, but many in the thread have been.

In truth I'm not sure why I keep playing. I'm a science captain in a science ship. Once those kinetic resist items get dropped into the game we'll see immunity to science powers because they all do kinetic damage.

So basically not only will our powers be nerfed as they are now (instead of improving them like we expected since they were working on an expansion essentially) we're basically seeing them making the problems worse.

    Amazes me it really does.

We'll soon see all Scimitars, bugs, and Jem carriers and nothing else in the game.

My issue is the implication that we won't be getting a new C-store ship until Season 10 or something, and presumably Fleet ships will take about as long. That's at least a year away.

If we keep getting new content and PvP gets revamped in Season 8 or 9, I suppose that would suffice. We don't know what we're ultimately gonna get, is what the problem is. . .and the KDF community has admittedly had little reason to trust Cryptic when it comes to providing content for the KDF.

I'll probably remain pessimistic, largely because I'm tired of Cryptic getting my hopes up and then disappointing me. LoR was nice, but I'm not hearing a ringing guarantee that similar levels of development and attention will continue for the KDF faction in the near future.

As a KDF, I keep playing because I literally laugh out loud every time my Tac Bortasqu' lays into another hapless target with a decloak alpha. Or every time it turns turtle and blows up - either way I get a magnificent explosion.

I keep playing because of that special satisfaction I get from when my Gorn bites somebody, walks away and lets them bleed to death.

I keep playing because there's still a thousand and one foundry missions I haven't tried yet.

I keep playing because I get rewarded for doing naughty things like raiding a farming colony or selling Vulcans off to be love slaves.

I keep playing because Ker'rat is a playground.

I keep playing, as a KDF, because this game is fun.

I think I"m walking away for a bit. I get absolutely nothing out of this game or Craptic other then feeling like I have a second job. A job that has no payoff in the end sense they consistently ignore the Klingon's.

This evening I played Stalker Pripyat for like 6 hours. And I've played it through dozens of times. I can put on Johnny Cash though and wonder the zone and actually feel like I'm playing an actual game instead of farming...well nothing. I feel like Its entertaining me instead of providing income to some 3rd rate developer who is providing me with nothing other then some ****y grind that rewards me with nothing in the end.

So I'm done for a bit. I'll come back when Cryptic does some Klingon T5 stuff(never).

    Why do I keep playing?

Because there are still a few objectives I want to achieve. Still a few items I want to get. Because now and then I like to try a new ship, maybe for a different style of play. Because I have a Federation a Klingon and a Romulan and I can vary at least a bit my gameplay. Because there's new content being added, new things to do and try. Because even if I had all the objectives finished, I like Star Trek and I would the very least fly my ship around the galaxy without a particular goal in mind (just like I used to do in X3). When it get's boring I bring the pace a bit down and take my time.

Started with the Fed, 'moved' to KDF because Carriers+Empire Defence(Carriers was first reason-finding Defence was a nice bonus), tricked it out somewhat, now I've 'moved' to Romulan(KDF side), bought a Tulwar+Advanced Drones(My only major Zen purchase beyond Account Bank and things), and am flying that.

    Why? I like flying.

I dislike the grind(Though it's far better than RNG), I dislike how long some things can be(ATMOSPHERE ASSAULT), I don't like how expensive things on the exchange can be, I'm technically a sucky pilot(Citation needed)but I like flying. I like ground decently also.

The game itself is fun to play. And for all the complaints and 'whining', we wouldn't still be here if we hated it that badly.

I really should work on my Fed at some point...Poor girl's been practically ignored.
