I'd vote no. Whoever thought that lightsabers had to belong in a "Star Trek" themed game deserves a slap in the first place. Additionally, they look bad.

^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Please give us an energy blade/sword as reward for summer event. The winter event had one, so logically, summer should have one too ^-^.
*** pump the thread if you think this is a good idea/concept.
Yes, it makes perfect logical sense to award people a weapon for attended an even on one of the single most peaceful planets in the whole damn universe..... this is obviously on par with an event hosted by the oh-so-peaceful Q. How could I miss it!
What kind of other melee weapons? Just genuinely curious.
All sorts of Klingon weapons http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Klingon_blade_weapons - most prominently the mek'leth and taijtig swords and the gin'tak spear. The D'k tahg dagger shouldn't be widly available, but since we also have Lirpas for everyone it could be included as well.
The Glavin http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Glavin (a ceremonial weapon, like the Lirpa. If we can hand out Lirpas to people fighting, we can hand out Glavins as well)
The Romulan Teral'n http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Teral%27n which is technically only featured in JJ-Trek but "belongs" in the prime timeline - I bet they could design some Romulan melee weapon resembling something like that.
Plus some original designs for the more warlike races like Ferasans (the "Klingon" faction should be the melee focus, Starfleet wouldn't utilize melee weapons regularily, maybe some form of stun baton as ENT MACOs had them, though they'd rely on hand-to-hand training in the worst case)

Hikaru Sulu would disagree with you on that. the idea of Sulu being a master swordsman is NOT something JJTrek added. JJTrek gave him the collapsible sword, but TOS Sulu was a skilled swordsman too.
LOL I knew that ppl would mistake my energy blade with light saber. With all due respect, I put "(light saber)" in order to illustrate the idea... not demanding a jedi light saber... 'cause I know pretty well how trekkies react lol. I prefer Star trek over SW... 'cause ST stuff are based on theoretical science... while SW is more fiction.
Since the devs've put the energy melee weapons in the last winter event, I just wanna something similar, but this time, it's sword instead of batl'eth or pole arm. Also, have them in four colors... same as the floaters ^-^.
Nano-molecular Golfclubs. Great, cause they make sense as both a ranged and a melee weapon. Well then, that settles it, the voice of carefull reasoning and sanity has spoken.
Unrelated to the OP but I think the Republic needs to start rewarding Romulan swords, red, gladius-like blades modeled after the Sword of the Raptor Star. It is nearly as important to the Romulans as the Sword of Kahless is to the Klingons.
The only way it could be possible is if they made a special accolade for sticking one up a Jedi's back side.
Star wars was ALWAYS made and directed toward 5-15 year old boys - or men with maturity levels around 10 years old - the second 3 movies lowered that to around 3 years old.
IDK if i support this idea for light sabers!?!
Just cause I always thought light sabers were Star Wars only?
Cuz iv never seen a light saber in Star Trek, if there is a Star Trek episode or movie with a light saber in it, sum1 let me no PLZ!?:)
Or maybe not a light saber, and more like a sword that has a light saber effect, IDK!:)
Im 50-50 on this

Extendible swords (either like Sulu's blade in the reboot movie, or like a Force lance from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda). They activate in red alert mode, deploy, and deal reduced damage but a slightly faster attack. They retract/undeploy when Red Alert is over.

The original Sulu was keen on european fencing as a sport if I remember correctly. I have no doubt that he'd be able to stand his ground with a sword in a Starfleet mission, though I'm sure he wouldn't choose a florett over an phaser If I remember correctly he was skilled in Judo as well. Though my point still stands, even if individuals are able to sword fight (Dax, Worf, O'Brien, Sisko, even a security detail from DS9 fought the Jem'Hadar with their own swords/halberds) Starfleet wouldn't hand out bladed weapons as a standard issue. Maybe some stun batons, everything else would be the officer's personal equipment (Worf's swords for example)
The retractable katana in JJ-Trek was kind of stupid. And mildly racist
