Envoy Class Exploration Cruiser

This may seem a little weird, but I saw this ship flying around a couple of times, and it instantly reminded me of a ship from the classic "Star Trek: Starfleet Command", by Interplay. Unfortunately, I didn't know the name of the Envoy Class cruiser until I unlocked it a couple of days ago. Now that I can look at it properly, I must say the resemblance is stark...

I couldn't find many images of the Envoy Class, but you can probably just look at the in-game model... http://trekazoid.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/federation_exploration_cruiser_envoy.png

The ship from Starfleet Command is called the Ulysses Class Dreadnought:

Anyway, I thought this was a cool thing, as I always thought that the dreadnought from SFC was cool as anything, and this Envoy class is very similar... Swept back nacelles, tubular secondary hull, angled deflector, vaguely triangular neck, and a circular dish. The Envoy is obviously a lot chunkier, and it's not an Original Series model, but still... Anyone else see the resemblance?

This ship is the number one worst ship design to have ever come out of Cryptic's shipyards.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

.. besides the Typhoon and the Jupiter dreadnought in my opinion.
Seriously looking at each one of those three ships makes my guts churning.

I really just don't get why it's so lumpy... It could be a perfectly fine looking design if it didn't appear to be a Vidiian incarnated as a ship.

I find the Celestial even worse than the Envoy. It looks like a placeholder ship. No detail whatsoever.

But you aint seen nothing yet:

I would use the Celestial over the Envoy, even if you threatened me with assimilation.

Ahhh, the 'Legoprise'. Saw one of those flying around ESD my first day in beta, and nearly submitted a bug report about it because I thought parts of the neck were just invisible. :D

Although both the Jupiter and Typhoon are obvious kitbashes from across various classes (the lower portion of the main hull of the Jupiter is from one of the Patrol Escorts, the nacelle pylons are from one of the Heavy Cruisers, and so on), I do like the general idea of the Typhoon. I also kind of like the Yamamoto posted earlier, although it seemed a touch too bulky somehow. Can't stand the Jupiter though, too much "flying bathtub."

As usual, Cryptic isn't likely to be able to get the licence to use player-created ships and ships that were designed for other games. If the ships aren't original Star Trek ships (i.e. seen on screen), then Cryptic needs special permission to use them, both from CBS AND the ship's creator (whether an individual or the other game's developers/producers), and getting permission from anyone not directly affiliated with Paramount or CBS is just about nil, especially if the ship was made for another game almost a decade ago. The Vesta is a special case because the original designer had worked with the Star Trek licence previously, with the approval of the IP owners, and the Odyssey and Chimera are special cases because they were submitted in what was effectively a CBS-sponsored event.

The universe has a wonderful sense of humor. The trick is learning how to take a joke.

It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

if they where going to add a tos inspired drednought this one would be the way to go.

they REALLY should have rethought the engineering hull on that thing...
i like that its a bit different, like an alien... or atleast, exotic take, on the typical fed cruiser template but the proportions are too far off.

    that is just beyond hideous.
its like a real galaxy class to something rather evil to a jhec.

though its cruiser escort hybrid looks serve to reinforce my opinion about the unchecked positive loop of ''lowl moar ezcorrtz'' i see happening.

Well the Ulysses class is TMP not TOS, and they have a TMP version of the Yamato class.

The Yamoto class was fisrt seen in Starfleet command and the TOS version is a fan made model of it. so she is feasible.

Due the fact that Interplay and CBS got "problems" with each other - Interplay has taken legal actions against CBS, I am sure that we do not see those Ships (Ulysses and Yamato) in STO.

Though I love those 2 Designs way more then any "free" Cryptic Ship. They are simply ugly!

Only if CBS would be the only owner of those 2 Ships (because old Interplay gon boom long ago), there would be a chance. Though I have no info on this!

    I want them too!
