Priorities for New/Alt Character

kanglorkanglor Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I apologize if there is a thread/info about this somewhere, but I had a question as someone who is just now getting pretty heavily into this system. I currently have one character at level 50, and another I'm working on leveling up now(both are KDF btw), which leads to my question. My first character I have just been randomly travelling around, mainly grabbing Marauder missions for Contraband, as well as whatever chain assignments I see.

Now I'm sure this is probably mostly personal preference but when you make a new character/alt what assignments, Doffs, etc do you prioritize? Also I have only been playing around a month so while some may just be able to go buy all purple quality Doffs, my funds are more limited. I really like this part of the game, and plan to setup at least 2 more characters to do it, just trying to come up with a more efficient path over what I have done so far.

I have read the very informative post going over how many of each Doff to get, and that has been very helpful, but any further advice/tips are appreciated!

My KDF alts exist solely for marauding, so my priorities are shaped by that. Basically, I prioritize assignments that help me build my stable of marauding doffs, and then grab any marauding missions I can with the rest. So the colony chains that give you useful marauders (i.e. Arucanis, Khazan, Afehirr, Betreka, and to a lesser degree T'Ong and D'Kel) and recruitment. On my KDF, I never felt the need to purchase any doffs, as you can pull in plenty of contraband with the basic recruits just through sheer volume; my Rom/KDF on the other hand, I might break down and buy some doffs for, as the starting lineup for Romulans isn't very good for marauding. If you want to buy a few doffs to get a jump start, I'd focus on having doffs that will help you progress the colony chains, and any doff you get with Aggressive doubles as both a Support runner and filler on marauding assignments regardless of their specialization.

Thanks for the reply, I'll definitely look towards those colony chains first then. Also thought of another question, that is, once I finish a chain, do any of the quests that mention the chain effect the chance of you getting the repeatable assignment? For instance I did all the steps for the 4028 chain, and now I sometimes get a non chain mission saying I can find some info about other 4028 prisoners, or even one where I can turn in 4 Contraband for contacts or some such.

Are those just fluff missions and have nothing to do with whether I get the repeatable assignment? I am assuming they are but want to make sure. Thanks.

Those are just fluff; the repeatable shows up for everyone the same in the current map tab, so it can hardly be dependent on your individual completion of other repeatable assignments.

My new alts play the story line until they can Doff.
Once the alt can Doff they focus on Maurading (DS9 transwarp).
Level 50 alts work on reputation.

Which Doff missions are worth your time? You decide:

Getting Facility 4028 Fugitives, Caitian Diaspora/Unforgiven of Ferasa, and Consular Authority done is of high priority - the repeatables for those chains basically allow you to print EC.

Lets see for a KDF Char my top priorities for DOff missions would be:

Disable Freighters/Other contraband and prisoner farming missions
    Colonial Chains
    Officer Exchange Chains
    Haggle for X
    NADORC
    Ghosts of Jem'Hadar
    Unforgiven of Ferasa
    Facility 4028 Fugitives
    DOff recruitment (Academy)
    Investigate Temporal Anomaly
    Resettle Colonists

That's just good DOff missions to do overall, if you still have slots after focusing on those, I would run ones that are high on dilithium count, and skill points to get your characters leveled up quicker.

A good STORYLINE mission to run for free DOffs is the Facility 4028 Mission under the Cardassian Front to obtain 2 blues and 1 purple. The 2 blues are energy and projectile weapons specialists so they will help with marauder missions, and the purple is a biochemist.

Depends on the build I am using with the character. If it is using aux2bat build I need those purple technicians so first thing I do is concentrate on B'Tran cluster. Also most of my characters use damage control doffs when not using technicians so ranking up engineering to get the purple damage control doff from commendation reward and from the emergency engineering hologram is also nice. If there is any purple doffs you need for builds, check to see if you can get it free this way before you blow millions on exchange.

Appreciate the replies, and sounds like I'm pretty much doing it right then, I got my 3rd KDF character to 50 yesterday, and gonna start my 4th today so I'll have my slots full. I've been hitting up all the chains as I see them and of course Marauding as much as possible for Dil, seem to have good success just using Green quality Doffs as well, least til I am able to upgrade/acquire new ones. Definitely wanna use the system to being able to farm Dil and hopefully EC as well down the road.
