I created a small test mission, just to make sure I understood the basics. It seems I do not.
My Story flow is:
Go to ESD to talk to contact.
Go to Vulcan system and approach the planet.
Beam down to the surface.
Kill some Klingons.
What happens when I click 'Play from Beginning of Story' is that I rez in on ESD just fine. I am able to walk to the contact (the DJ at the club) and talk to him. The mission advances (ie: the objective becomes "Approach Vulcan". However, I can't get off ESD. My 'beam up' icon is grayed out, and simply going to the transporter room accomplishes nothing.
Help?
Specifics:
Grant Mission Dialog
Cryptic Maps / Dialog with Contact
Transition / Leave from Vulcan System
Project Space Map / Reach Marker
Transition / Leave from Whole Map
Project Ground Map / Kill Enemies.
It breaks down after Dialog with Contact. I can't beam up to my ship in order to fly to Vulcan.
I could be wrong (and someone please correct me if I am), but I don't think the Foundry will allow you to do that. As far as I know you can only use one Cryptic "asset" at the beginning of your mission.
For instance, you could have the player talk to the contact at ESD, but then you'd have to use another asset at ESD to transfer the player straight to a map that you made. In this case the player would not actually fly to Vulcan, but they would just instantly be sent to the map you built.
Or, alternately, you could have the "Grant Mission Dialog" (which is just a pop-up) use the DJ asset and tell them to fly to Vulcan that way. In that case you could set up the map transition so the player actually has to fly to Vulcan through sector space.
I attempted something similar to what you are describing but could not get it to work right. The Foundry didn't seem to want to let me do it, so I ended up going with option 2 that I outlined above.
I, myself, just started really delving into the Foundry and am by no means an expert, but I hope that helps. Sometimes the limitations require you to modify your story slightly.

You should be able to beam out of ESD... wait.... is your foundry character level 1? that might be the issue, IIRC the beam out button is disabled if a char is L1.
So I couldn't get that to work because my Foundry toon is only level 1?
Hahahahahaha...
I guess I'll have to make a cheesy little xp farming mission so I can level her up.
Sheesh...
I don't remember what is there, but I would try simply doing the ESD tutorials. That might get you leveled enough to leave ESD, since that is why the mechanic might be in place, to make new players learn the game before leaving ESD.
I can't level up my toon. I load in IN Spacedock, thus I can't complete the objective 'go to Spacedock' on the first Episode mission. And because I can't go to my ship, I can't LEAVE Spacedock either.

This is pretty catch-22
Try this: Create a second project that starts on Vulcan, then go to ESD. Or, see if Quinn has any tutorials for you, like visit the tailor, etc. The objective is probably to report to Quinn.
The "leave from" box did, indeed, specify Vulcan System in Sirius Sector Block.
My toon is level one I would imagine. How do you level up your test character? I'll have to look into that.
Kill a lot of stuff. AFAIK the only way to level past 1 is to do the tutorial, kill things, or one of the Defera dailies, but....
The Defera daily is not easy to get to, also I don't remember which Deferi mission you can actually do.
Oh and Foundry chars normally can't do the tutorial. I have seen a glitch on tribble that let me login my Foundry char as a regular char, but that was a one-shot glitch related to a specific patch.
so, the only real option left is to use map preview to spawn your char in a map with a bunch of enemies and kill them for Xp.
In case you're curious my Foundry char is a VA.
You might be able to go to the transporter pad at ESD, beam down to Academy then use one of the beam up buttons at academy to beam to Sirius block.

How long has it been like this? That is pretty silly that a foundry toon can't test a foundry mission immediately.
Well, I started leveling Tetin before the Defera stuff got added. So.... I think it was before the season 4 outage.
Are you saying that ever since season 4, a new foundry author creates a foundry toon and then has to figure out how to level it in order to test in the storyboard?
Wow. I'm surprised we haven't had more threads like this one.

Me too. This is fairly ridiculous.
So, I created a BS map out in space so I could go to ESD from the outside. And as soon as I entered the Sol system, I crashed to desktop. Now, every time I try to log into the Foundry, I get a "failed with no explanation" error when trying to load edit any projects.
I'm starting to think that this is really not worth the effort.

"failed for unknown reason" is a known bug. Just keep trying. If you have any questions, ask foundry authors in sbugc's chat room.
We'll try to help you through the learning curve and the bugs.

Not quite. I meant to say it was around in Season 3.
I think it escapes notice since most missions do not require you to travel between Cryptic maps and that is the situation that this is a problem in most.

Since Day One, I believe. Originally the Foundry was advertised to have test toons that could be leveled up or down. I'm not sure whether that meant you could manually adjust your test toon's level at will, or merely that it would be auto-adjusted to the requirements of your mission while you were in preview mode. Either way, for whatever reason, Cryptic did not make good on that.

I believe they intimated you would be able to auto-level your Foundry mission making character too; but they never followed through on it. Makes it very hard to test any level restricted Foundry mission without publishing it and logging in on one of your regular toons to test it (and hope no one decides to Review it while you're effectively still testing it.

The "leave from" box should have the Vulcan system chosen.

This is a known issue. I'll see what I can do to draw some more attention to it, but I can't promise anything.
