Energy weapon balance ideas

I was wondering what the effect would be if the firing cycles between beams and cannons were equal in length?

Would increasing the cannon firing cycle to that of beams be better (aside from getting yelled at because of the stupidity), or would be decreasing the beam firing cycle to that of cannons be better (and get yelled at for the same reason as before)

Now I admit that I have no clue as to how the system works in this regard and that adjusting the damage of one or both is probably going to be the very last option in balancing these two imho.

Personally I would like to see the beam firing cycle length reduced to that of cannons then the weapon drain is equal between the two weapon type.

Imho the drain is where the problem is, because if you look at things you get what 3 beam firing cycles in 15 seconds and 5 firing cycles for cannons

And no this is not meant to be a nerf cannons thread or buff beams thread


I thought of this as I was typing this. How about having the drain as it is now, have it as a permanent setting eg 6 arrays is a permanent -50 to weapon power. It is an idea and probably a bad one at that :rolleyes:

    first the cycle times are the way they are because cannons do alot more damage then arrays making cannons have the same rof as arrays would be game breaking because then cannons would put out even more dps much faster as for the wepon drain setting it to perma -50 weapon power would also be game breaking in that it would make alot of skills and counsols that are desined to improve weapon power and keep it up to par useless

    not to mention the amount of coding work that would have to be put into to the changes not only changing the cycle times and weapon power settings but also a complete rebalancing of every thing else inbetween

    Reduced cycles on BA's would help quite a bit considering they fire a 4 shot cycle with a 4 second recharge. Another concept that would be nice is if BA's came standard with a +10% innate bonus to accuracy, but that's just wishful thinking. Definitely decreasing the shot cycle to half would help dramatically.
