Beach wear for Risa event?

lexusk19lexusk19 Member Posts: 1,407 Arc User
So will we be able to buy beach wear or swimsuits for the tropical island event? Like with Q's winter wonderland? It would really be stupid to run around in combat boots and full starfleet uniforms... >.>

There's already several threads about this. The dev blog says there's no swimsuits for the beach.
You can even purchase new outfits and accessories ready for jungle exploration, archeology, and exploring the botanical beauty of the inland areas ? or just for wading along the beach shores and grottoes. (Notice: The Risian Hospitality Association reminds visitors that unsupervised deepwater areas are off limits, as they are not safe for swimming until monitoring systems are in place. No swimwear will be provided to guests at this time.)

And all excitement for the event is gone... All because PWE is to scared to put in swimsuits which are seen quite often in the shows... -_-

I doubt its PWE. PWE have lots of "swimsuits" in their other titles. This is Cryptic, plain and simple. Their gender bias is just disgusting because females already have swimwear via the TOS Mirror Universe uniform and cropped winter jackets.

It is really the males that are denied the "swimsuits" because they are afraid players will be like Captain Kirk and start fighting mobs and aliens without his shirt....ironic being this is a Star Trek game...

    I feel the same way.

The worst part is the deafening silence from Cryptic on why we can't get appropriate attire to wear on Risa and other beach worlds.

Yawn. That has nothing to do with it. There's no point repeating everything that's been said in the bajillion other threads - but it would be a stupidly big undertaking for them in terms of artwork. A huge job. We don't even have models of feet, or chests. It would require doing that (plus a hell of a lot more) for every species currently available.

Ever seen a Bolian chest? Me neither. They don't have skin textures for many of the alien species aside from the face because it was less work at the time. That's the summary of it.

    Laziness, not gender bias.

It has EVERYTHING to do with it, and I know so since this was an issue that I've been following since the issue was brought up by dstahl in Season 1. As for the Bolian, just use the normal human chest and colour it blue. Done!

As for the feet, I believe branflakes was bragging on how barefeet is going to be available, they obviously had time for that (even though I think the bare feet in game is horrible).

With regards to other species, why not just use the normal human torso for humans, vulcans, romulans, *aliens* (as an option), bajorans, betazoid, and other human looking species, while for Klingons, Pakleds, Ferengi (?), and others that may look different, then they can wear a tank top *for now*?

See? Simple solution, and yet its not purposely being done...

What is the whole point than! Why let us go to a resort when we can not have a Swimsuits. Why is it that cryptic is always giving as incomplete Content. This is getting Ridiculous, Surely they had plan for this in advance, so why the limitation.

They'll probably have "casual" clothes like sandals, short-sleeve shirts, hopefully tiny miniskirts. But with the "no swimsuits" rule I don't expect much else.

Actualy you just meantioned why it should be easy to add swimsuits. PWE has the assets already created in other titles that can be ported to STO. i do 3D modeling and porting from 1 title to another is easier than building from scratch. And PWE can simply send Cryptic the assets and tell them to use them.

And yes there are models for feet, orion female sandals. Remove the sandal part and you have bare feet. use the larger female model for the smaller male and scale for the larger one so weight sliders work with small and large morph targets. Probably 1 day's worth of work by 1 3d modeler and a couple days testing and perfecting.

Shorts for males, is easy the models exhist for the legs already and any and all of the pant options can be reworked to become shorts simply by removing the verts from mid thigh down then smoothing that edge. Same with T-shirts and tank tops.

Creating from scratch on the other hand takes allot more time with vertice weights and having to make 2 copies exactly the same except scale for weight slider morphing. Modding what you already have takes far far less time.

Just because it's in the data doesn't mean it's used anywhere. Games usually have all kinds of loose things in there. Look at Skyrim - nearly everything to flesh out the Civil War storyline is clearly visible in the Construction Kit, but the game itself never uses them.

I honestly don't want any swimwear to be in the game.

    Why, you ask?

Because if STO got swimwear, there will always be someone with a Pakled character wearing the skimpiest swimwear possible on STO, and they'll doing the fan dance emote somewhere on the servers.

How is "There will not be swimwear costumes" deafening silence. they stated upfront what the situation is. They didn't make any, so there won't be any. (Because if they had made some, we'd have some.) I don't think they're going to whip some up prior to the event launch on Thursday.

(And it could very well be that CBS said "No" to swimwear costumes too -- but if that's the case I doubt Cryptic/PWE will comment on that As it would put CBS is a bad light for players who see this as an issue.)

If it really bothers some players that much; the best way to make the displeasure known is to boycott the event (or the game itself) - and let Cryptic/PWE/CBS know why you're doing so.
    ^^^
(Personally, I'm not actually advocating anything; as in this situation, I could care less whether there is 'swimwear' as I'm not into that level of RP in STO -- I'm just saying the above is usually the only thing upper/corporate management will take notice of, as it affects their bottom line. I also don't know if it would effect a 'change of mind' from whomever made the decision; as their may be other factors involved with the decision.)

The jungle exploration gear sounds far more interesting to me. There's only so many shirtless orion male outfits that you really need. I just want some interesting outfits and accessories for male characters.

We'll that would be even more of a disappointment, if it's already made and in there, but nobody decided to make them available. Given that they're in those files next to the bare feet, then maybe it's there for a reason related to Risa.

I highly suspect that we will see the swimsuits that are already in the game data made available for the summer event. I think people are mis-reading the current blog posting a bit, and that's it's more like "no info regarding swimwear in this blog post; check back later."

Am not going to let my toon go into pool without any swim wears. We already have a formal wear so why can't we have summer wear.

Honestly, part of me will laugh so hard if everyone (myself included to be honest) misinterpreted it and it is just a comment on not being able to swim, and swimwear is part of the Risa event.

This wouldn't be the first time a company didn't address something a playerbase mentioned, because it was a non-issue and they didn't want to play all their cards upfront so to speak.

That said, if there is indeed no swimwear, it is a rather big disappointment, as that is pretty much the whole reason the fans wanted a Summer Event.

While I don't really want to have Starfleet captain running on ESD with a swimwear, I would have loved to use one on Risa.
Maybe disable them everywhere but Risa ?

No reason to have any restrictions, considering what people already can run around in on both Qo'nos and ESD.(Orion metal Bikini's and TOS skirts and mirror tops anyone?)

Why do we even need swimwear options?

Sexual equality doesn't mean that we should treat all genders as pieces of meat to be gawped at. It means that we should treat everyone equally in terms of respect and dignity.
Pornography (however soft) is equally degrading to men as well as women and society should be moving away from it, not justifying it by making it "equal" in terms of nudity of males and females.

Swimsuits are not pornographic. If you want to be "respectful" start with respecting people regardless of what they are wearing and stop telling people how to dress at the beach/pool.

Swimsuits in STO are needed because since Open Beta many of us players have been asking for something to wear on Risa that's appropriate for the beach. We are aware that this game has the be friendly for all ages but in real life swimwear IS friendly for all ages. Conversely, if I wore my Star Trek costume or military uniform to the beach or a water park, I'd look out of place.
