Howdy, the Foundry keeps crashing, I'm working in the editor, creating a new episode, and it keeps crashing alot, every 10 minutes, literally, I have to re-log in from the launcher itself!!
My computers great, in great condition, and so is the internet connection, so I know it's the Foundry itself.
Unfortunately, it use to crash alot before the new romulus launch as well, and so I am going to suggest something (as I have before), which I KNOW would fix the problem of all these crashes with the Foundry.
And that is:
Please:
- Allow the Foundry to be a software that you can download, then Install into the computer itself! Then the only time you have to rely on the STO servers is when you Upload your entire episode that you have created .
I do not understand why this has not been done yet, it would solve ALOT of problems with the Foundry.
This is the Main reason why I had waited sooo long to create another episode, is cause it takes twenty-thousand centuries to create just ONE part of an entire mission!
So, I ask you folks, to please do as suggested, allow the Foundry to be a program we Install to our computers....
Thank you and God Bless you all.
{if possible, could I get a reply to this post from anyone of the STO Team ?}
WELL THIS is UNBelievable! It just KEEPS Crashing down. Now, I can't seem to get back in to Editing the Episode I'm TRYING to create!
Every time I try to edit my new episode, it crashes and then says something about something failing!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!!
AGGGHHGHHGHGHHHHHHHHHHHH.
phew....
ok, that's enough, .... isn't it painfully obvious that the Foundry should be a program one can just Install to the computer? Honestly..... THIS is JUST ridiculous.
Respectfully, STO, I say, that if you truly don't want people turned off of creating new episodes, do as I suggest, PUH-LEASE...
I actually thought of that too. you could have all your tools and stuff and a preview world and when your ready safe it to some kind of file that can be imported by some button on the char select screen. I would really love that and it'd give me something to do while sto goes down for maitenece. perhaps there can even be purchaseable "Foundry expansion sets" that come with new costumes, ships, maps, npc races etc.

YES!!! Exactly!!! Precisely!!!! I LUV that Idea!!! GREAT Thinking orionsrock!!!!

That's what should be done!!!!!! but why? WHY
God do they not yet do it????????
Because, I expect, that would be a major investment of programmer time. If you, or someone you know, knows how to do something like this quickly and easily, we do have programmer openings listed at Cryptic's website.

Wow.... um.... yeah... no sarcasm there at all...... God Bless you crypticfrost, you must be under alot of pressure to respond that way to me...
I uh expect that kind of answer from players on the forum, but not one who works for STO...
God Bless you .
I'll um.. try not to say anymore about the foundry ... cause I ah.... well quite frankly don't want to get such a reply again... so I respect ya and won't ah post about any issues again on the foundry.

My apologies. No insult was intended.
I did submit your suggestion back when you asked me to do so. You asked why it hadn't been acted upon yet and I gave you an honest answer. Such a rework of the Foundry would take a lot of time. We do have openings for programmers.
I was not being sarcastic. If you or anyone you know has the abilities to help out and you want a job with Cryptic, by all means apply.
Still, my apologies for any offense taken. None was intended.
I can't even get into the foundry, it always says "login failed for an unknown reason" It would take me a half hour to get into the foundry, just hoping i get the chance to log in. I tried making a new character creation for the foundry, thinking that was the problem, but that fails too.

Well his response was indeed correct regardless. He's right we aren't programmers, I'm just a simple college girl with a lot of ideas (and spare time), however when I was thinking while writing what I said I meant it more as a long term goal rather than a quick fix. something to consider in the ever changing future of technology.
I do believe it a worthwhile endeavor in the long run, as less people would freak out every time the game went down because they could still atleast do something star trek online-y, and people working on projects wouldn't have to pinch ideas in their head until they get too much and overflow.(lol me).
It'd also as I said provide good sales opportunities to offer expansions or more costumes for the foundry in the store (an idea which can be done even without the separate foundry thing), I could see like there being options to buy rare costumes or like an option for either faction's costumes on every char (like I've seen in nimbus) or heck you can even have places for sale like modern droz and nimbus etc. Im not a marketing expert but it may be something to look into for extra foundry revenue. heck you can even throw in some new costumes to keep it fresh, maybe a suliban or whatevers.
Goodness this was supposed to be a short post my apologies. Perhapes Ill save it for a suggestions thread.
Anywho, on to the issue at hand. If your expiriencing crashing you should post your crash id numbers as they are being collected for reporting.
I just wanted to throw in my "thanks" to frost for being here and talking to us about what's going on. He's awesome. Not being able to access foundry missions sucks, but no one is dying over it. Regardless, I'm happy just to know that someone at cryptic knows about it.
Thank you frost!

Thank you Crypticfrost. I appreciate your reply. God Bless You for your response, and indeed for all the hard work you and all whom work on STO, does. I by no means meant to sound illogical nor unaware of the work load placed upon the great Blessed Team of STO. And I do appreciate you forwarding my suggestion, and also your reply here.
It is completely understood what you said, about programmers needed. Yet I Hope to the Good Lord in Heaven, that perhaps a Project may be , slowly at least, started upon, with turning the Foundry towards the Direction of having it as an Installable Software to a person's computer. All things that take a long time, and that which is not easy, is always worth working on or "fighting for". No matter how long the Time would take, the Result of it , shall truly open the game to even more Players whom just like the idea of Creating Missions for STO.
As for the job at STO, thank you for the invite, I have yet to enter a University yet for a game developer course. At the end of the year I'll have more time to look for any online university's which offer courses in game programming and creating. So it's interesting that you suggested that, cause I plan to go to school for learning how to make video-games. I just need to find the right school in the right time.
God Bless you Cryptic for your reply, and I do appreciate your now kinder response to me. May the Lord Bless you and all whom work at STO.
No it doesn't. And here's proof that I'm not alone in thinking it. And no matter the amount of people that don't speak in agreement, all it takes is One Thought, ONE Idea to be listened to, even if in a different direction than some think, and then Great Things may be achieved. The existence of ALL Great inventions came about as such, we would have no airplanes if someone didn't continue to try and make something others thought was a waste of time to try. Anyhow here, as I said, is proof I'm not alone here:

We're lucky to get a programmer to fix our bugs, let alone do something big.
Don't flame Frost for giving an honest answer. Sometimes I think he is the only person that even looks at this forum.
Thank you frost!
