I'm trying to decide on the traits for my Starfleet tactical alien.
Thus far, I have:
* Peak Health
* Soldier
* Accurate
* Elusive
I'm planning on keeping these, because they are pretty solid, and they're some of the reasons I went Alien in the first place. I want to have at least 4 ground, 4 space, and I'm probably going to have a fifth ground one, and I'm trying to decide which to have.
In space, I usually use a Fleet Assault Cruiser and Fleet Defiant, with some use of a tac Odyssey (three-pack) and Steamrunner, usually using the MACO shield and Borg deflector/engine. On the ground I use MACO Adapted, generally use Squad Leader or Operative kits (may use Fire Team soon), and tend to use Hortas a lot. I VERY occasionally do PvP in either, but I mostly do PvP.
I am fairly certain I'm going to go with Acute Senses and Mental Discipline. If I go for Acute Senses or Telepathy it probably won't be both, since they seem to have a good bit of overlap. I'm not sure whether Situational Awareness or Strike Team Specialist is better - I don't stack Crit all that high, but I don't use grenades all THAT often, either (although with Situational Awareness, I might start, plus there's the MACO Adapted pulsewave grenades). I'm also uncertain on Creative. I tend to use the Squad Leader and Operative kits, although I might use Fire Team at some point.
In terms of space traits, I know that Warp Theorist is solid, but not that much of a boost, although my cruiser builds rotate 4 copies of EPtX, so they may get more of a boost than I'm thinking.. I find that with recent changes my cruiser seems to be getting blasted more as of late, yet it seems to survive just long enough for me to engage Go Down Fighting, so I'm starting to think Last Ditch Effort is a sound investment, but Crippling Strikes sounds good, too. Although I'm considering Efficient, I probably won't go for it, since IMO warp theorist is probably better and I've already got an efficient warp core, which points me at around +99 efficiency (including my +84 efficiency stat).
Regarding going all space or all ground - I'm not terribly interested in minmaximizing for space or ground, but I feel there are less useful traits for space after a point, and I have to decide what to use the 9th slot on.
Input and thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you for your help!
For a Tac, I would lean more towards Acute Senses than Telepathy, as you're better served by emphasizing the exploit rather than the expose. Like you, I'm inclined to leave Creative off, especially with that kit selection. Personally, I like Strike Team Specialist better than Situational Awareness, but I can see how that could go either way based on preference; 25% expose chance is nothing to sneeze at, even if it's on an ability you might only use once per fight.

Don't take my word for it: Get Lord Havelock's power calculator from the Player Guides section and play around with it to see how much either one will affect your power levels. As far as Crippling Strikes and Last Ditch Effort go, I run with both on my Tac flying a Patrol Escort. I like them both, and they both sound useful, but I'm not sure the effect of either is noticeable.
