No practical method to accomplish that comes to mind.

    A high-warp orbit around a star?

you could try downloading the old client and hack it, but under the terms of service you would be banned the moment it made contact with cryptic servers.

so as two others have mentioned, no, you can not.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Is anyone even hosting the old versions of the client? If so, it seems like you'd need to do a lot of hacking to accomplish that, at least to the extent of getting it to interact with the current incarnation of the server without crashing, then as you mentioned the hammer would come down making that an exercise in futility. So you'd need an emulation of the server to get away with that... maybe doable but very time consuming. I'm sticking with the "no practical method" standpoint.

Not even then. As soon as you attempt to connect with the server, the client will say that it is out of date and it will begin patching. You cannot play the game in any way shape or form at all offline because the mechanics and combat numbers are calculated server-side, even if you are the only player in the instance. Let alone the PVE, social zones, or even doffing.

At any rate, why would you want to play an older version of STO? The graphics are better, more streamlined now. the UI is cleaner, The game has more content than ever before. The ships and powers are (slowly) becoming more balanced. Ground combat is actually engaging.

If there is a particular issue that you have with the current game? Maybe we can alleviate your concerns. Or, Maybe we will agree with you and can bring this concern to the Devs. They DO read the forums and are willing to listen to player concerns.

To address that point, it is possible to bypass the patching process and directly launch the client. Not that it matters given all the other problems to be had with trying it.

    Simple answer: No.

Longer answer: No, because as soon as you try to start the game, the client is checked to see that it is up to date. If it isn't then patching begins. Stopping that process means no more game play for you.

Patching is done by the launcher, not the client. When you select holodeck or tribble the launcher just tells it which folder it should use to launch the game client exe file. If you launch GameClient.exe directly, no patch check, but it will say you're out of date and refuse to proceed. That could probably be TRIBBLE to get past that check, but why bother?

    That's not always true.
Before the romuloid scourge, or even further back?
    A would assume further back.

About the only thing from old STO that I notice has changed is when the enemy ships would sneak upon you and pull you into an enemy contact while you were sitting back and enjoying some lunch on the flight to Droz.

I still jump outta the seat and set my sandwich down when I see one coming at me from time to time.

just get drunk and watch youtube videos of old sto. unplug your keyboard and mouse and play... sure it'll be a little weird and imprecise, but you'll just assume that it's because you're drunk.

Assuming, you would find a way(not likely), what would happen ?

Most of the calculations are done on the server. You would still get all the "new" equipment stats, enemies, nerfs etc. Maybe you could retain a bit of your own (old) movement calculation and the old interface. But everything else rule-related : you are subject to the newer version, even with an old client.

Well, that is, if it works at all. Many thinks won't work. What would happen with all the Romulan Players on your Map, when your client doesn't know LoR ?

I honestly don't know. But pretty sure, they will be walking display bugs. Maybe they all are invisible or you see the wrong ships and so on. Or your client simply crashes. But for them it will work fine. They can see and shoot you as they should, they probably won't even notice something is strange with you.

No, really playing the old version requires a server with the old server software. But then you would be pretty much alone on it... And ofc. PWE won't let that happen anyway.

Yes, there are different versions on different servers for some other MMOs. But i don't see that happen to STO in foreseeable future.

    Yes there is!

Ignore the quere, the doffs, the reputations and all adventure zones. Always switch to the most empty instance. Don't use consoles or equipment above MK XI purple. Then the game should feel pre F2P!

Time travel is still the most viable option, firstly do you have a faster than light interstellar space ship?

well the more I think about what the OP asks..
if going back would mean I could play the old "the Cure" with a pre-made team and going space-ground-space again, talking about tactics, helping new players out with equipment they forget to take with them, laughing about the guy who forgot his remodulater
(yeah ME :D )...you know what I mean..!

That part is still true. Play normal ground in pug, there will almost always be at least one person without a remodulator.
However, don't expect him to understand and/or reply to what you say.

however right now you can access your replicator from the ground and make a remodulator while in the mission.
