Warp core upgrades doff requirement bug

warpangelwarpangel Member Posts: 9,427 Arc User
Experimental Warp Core Upgrades. It has "Matter-Antimatter Specialist" as the blue quality attribute for all the doffs involved. But the last two are required to be from the Science department, meaning it's actually impossible to put a Matter-Antimatter Specialist in them.

Yep, same issue here. Though I think it's only showing up on my Fed characters, my KDF and Romulans have been able to make some purple warp cores, while my Fed keeps getting green Mark X's due to this issue.

What confuses me is why "Warp Core Engineers" aren't required...TO MAKE A WARP CORE?!?!?!?!:confused::confused::confused:

Maybe because warp core engineers are more related to the maintenance & upkeep of a warp core, rather than the design of a new one? Just throwing my 2 cents out there as a possibility.

Phad: Well, it has a 24 hour cooldown, and aside from that, it's an uncommon mission that only seems to appear for any given captain in one sector block at a time. Also, you may have to go into your department heads or even your ship's bridge to talk to an officer who has the mission. SO basically, in order to find the mission, you have to enter a zone, check your list, then check D.H., then visit your bridge and use your DOff asignment console to see if anyone has it. If not, then switch sectors and try again!

Over in the "Doffcall" chat channel, people have been inviting people to their bridge to get the mission from the engineering officer. So if you're having trouble finding it, check the channel, and wait for someone to offer invites.

Unless there was a bug introduced with LoR, the assignments on your ship are the same as the ones from the department head tab, so visiting your bridge while searching for an assignment is unnecessary.

I may be stupid, but I don't see the issue here, you need 2 Anti-Matter specialists, and 2 Science which you select with purple attributes. Why is this a problem?

The issue is that for the singularity assignment you actually get to slot 4 grav scientists, where the warp core only allows 2 M-A doffs tho it says 4.

I wouldn't be to sad if it were to stay the way it currently is. If they were to change it, it would turn into requiring 2 MA as well as 2 Engineers (with MA as a success trait). The "success" traits can usually be ignored in those crafting assignments as the only improve your chance to get a rare piece of equipment over a green one and leave your purple chance completely untouched.

Since we are usually aiming for purple, as blue as well as green gear are usually worth less on the exchange than it's vendor price, it's important to slot a purple doff with as many crit traits as possible, no matter what their profession is. And as everyone can see, it's usually much, much cheaper and easier to find a purple scientist with those crit traits than a purple engineer.

    For example:

Calculated the cost of assembling a purple crafting team with at least 1 crit attribute at current exchange prices. percentages are close estimates, to show how the outcome would change.

    A) 4 Matter-Antimatter
current cost at the exchange: 29.725.000 EC (4x MA)
    purple: 22%
    rare: 58%
    uncommon: 18%
    explosion: 2%

    B) 2 Matter-Antimatter, 2 Engineer (they way every other crafting assignment is set up)
current cost at the exchange: 14.025.000 EC (2x MA, 1x Systems, 1x Diagnostic)
    purple: 22%
    rare: 51%
    uncommon: 23%
    explosion: 4%

    C) 2 Matter-Antimatter, 2 Scientists (the way it currently is)
current cost at the exchange: 10.195.000 EC (2x MA, 2x Botanist)
    purple: 22%
    rare: 51%
    uncommon: 23%
    explosion: 4%

We should keep the Scientists, but make the specialty "Warp Theorist" instead. And maybe add "Warp Core Engineer" to the Engineer list. It seems kind of off that an actual warp core engineer is of no use in this task.

I don't really mind this bug as I rather just use 2 purple sci anyway rather then MA specialists to increase crit chance.

Who wants to carry 4 matter/anti-matter DOffs? I say it's fine the way it is.

it's not. Because you can't slot a Matter-Antimatter Specialist into a Science slot, yet the mission lists them as the "Success" condition for those two Science slots.

It either needs to be changed to all four Engineering slots, or substitute a different doff (Warp Theorist) in the two Science slots to count towards successes.

Ditto on not being able to find the assignment. I've also been unable to find it for the past couple days. Searched all sector blocks several times... nothing.

Random is random. Sometimes it just doesn't show up anywhere. It is still there though, I managed to get a nice purple Mark XI the other night.
