History
Our fleet, which was to become Special Circumstances, was formed at the beginning of Season 6 by members of other defunct fleets. Five members were brought together by circumstances. As an initial five-man fleet, our first question was, "what now?" From that initial day, we have expanded through our contacts in the STO community, grown our holdings on both Federation and Klingon side. From the beginning we have had a core group of dedicated players from both factions. Unlike other five-man start-ups, our fleet endured and grew despite the daunting task ahead of us. Our membership is global and closely follows the Star Trek notion of IDIC,
infinite diversity in infinite combinations. We are now looking for more people to join our community and become part of our story.
Mission
Our goal is to provide the most constructive playing environment for our members. This means, but not limited to, saving a fleet member from ever having to PuG, backing them up should they want to jump into a PvP, helping them grind that last reputation item they might be after, helping with ship builds or ground tactics, and even helping a member to grind XP. We are an all encompassing fleet in terms of what we play in STO; PvE, STFs, PvP, No-Win-Scenario and the like. It is also our belief that communication is central to a fleet. This is either done through our in-game chat channel or better yet our TS server.
Organization
Our rank structure is closely tied to the in-game rank system, meaning that players are linked to that rank and the bank items that correspond with it. We also have a 7 day probation period for new members, after which they will be promoted. For end-game players we have two ranks, one for those with permission to buy from our fleet stores - 50,000 in fleet contributions. Probation and contributions may be waived at the discretion of fleet leadership. Our leadership structure combines two ranks: Fleet Admiral/General and Fleet Officer. These members have assigned roles they perform. Examples are fleet CinC (Commander in Chief), Fleet QM (Quartermaster), Fleet SO (Special Operations), Fleet Operations, Fleet Recruiter, and Fleet Communications. We have affectionately dubbed one member our Fleet Neelix for his contributions to morale.
Starbase Progression
We have achieved tier 3 on both our Federation and Klingon starbases. We are close to achieving tier 4 starbase on the Federation side. It is one of our goals to increase our progression on the Klingon side. We have also completed all limited time projects on both factions for starbase and embassy.
Recruitment
As a small fleet compared to others, we have a goal to make sure that no member is lost in the sheer numbers other fleets may have. We want all our new members to be a valued part of our fleet, not just an
@handle on the roster. If you would like to call Special Circumstances your home on STO or just further information please send me a mail in-game to
@markg1701 or to our fleet recruiter
@ls10.
Comments
We also like to treat or Fleet members as part of our family but also offer them the respect all members deserve.
The reason I am in the fleet is that they are actually nice guys - no trolls, no competitiveness, just help, support and constructive lunacy  - when I see someone charge a borg cube when they have no shields left and no real hope of becoming anything other than a smear on the side of the cube, just to distract the cube from a damaged team-mate, I send a fleet invite :P
But watch skyrim with any attractive female crew members you have...
I'm the Fleet Recruiter of Special Circumstances. Maybe you will think that what I post below is merely ads considering my title and job within the fleet.
But, before you come to that conclusion and hit the "back" button on your browser, let me ask you this: "why I give myself such a burden (jk ) Well, at least why I accept such a hard task?
That's because I am proud to be a member of Special Circumstances. I am proud to be a member of a constructive community, which isn't overwhelmed by bureaucracy. In Special Circumstances, we believe officers and admirals exist to manage and help the other members of the fleet; not to make lower-ranked members grind for their requisitions.
So, if you are searching for a fleet as well as a community in the STO Universe, you have just found it.
See you in game!
Chillax. No Ego. No Drama.
