You'll have to pardon me if this subject has been brought up before, but I wanted to mention it myself.
As a part of a RP fleet and a starting Foundry author, I've done a lot of thinking about how the Foundry could really help to tell stories for roleplay. My first use of the foundry, in fact, was built around the premise of telling a story specifically for the fleet. I would love to continue doing this, but thnk it would be awesome if I could simply use the foundry to create locations for my fleet to roleplay in.
Has anyone ever brought up the idea of perhaps adding something in the Foundry that would allow you to make RP locations that didn't require creating an entire mission to use? Perhaps add a foundry category specifically for RP only maps and remove some of the foundry features that would be unnecessary in such maps. Maybe even link those maps to the author's account so that they would have to invite other players into those maps, much as you do with your ship's interior or your fleet holdings.
I don't know how many other people would be interested in something like this, but I would think that having the ability to create RP specific maps would be a great way to expand the Foundry experience for RP and non RP players alike.
This is something I've thought about. Would be great to have the ability to make social maps, a la ESD or Starfleet Academy.
Here's how I would envision it working:
On the main page of your project, the one where you put in the title and summary, there would be a check box that says "Social Map." When you check that, it changes some things around. It makes it so you can only have one map, but you don't have to put on any objectives (can put as many triggers and interactable objects as you want though). You can pick a door to enter the map at, and it increases the player limit. It would also disallow the usual rewards system to prevent abuse.
That sounds about like what I'd envisioned. There have been a few times in the current plot line that my fleet is running that I would have loved to be able to make a map for a specific location. Case in point, a couple of our fleet members are on the run, and my character had a safe house he'd hidden them in. Unfortunately, there are no maps that could really be used for that, as they all have public traffic. It would have looked odd to have a safehouse with random people walking through it. And I really didn't want to create an entire mission just for one map. If there was something like what you describe in the foundry, I could have made a quick, single map safehouse, and used it to run various story points.
And because it would be used specifically for story, or social reasons, there would be no reason to have rewards.
There are pretty much 3 things I think the devs should do to really expand functionality and create a broader appeal for the Foundry and that's 1) what I said above, allowing people to create purely social maps, 2) allowing people to create PvP maps, and 3) putting in more options for STF style group play missions (boss encounters and such).

How does that sound?

I like it.
