Ok I've lost my sense of humor about this.

During the past year I believe I have reported ONE person to a GM. I just sent in my 4th report about that same person, who happens to be saying the most vile, racist, vulgar things in zone chat for all to see...so I find it hard to believe that others haven't sent in reports as well. It's so bad then even when I try to send in a report detailing what is said with NO profanity it's still blocked for it. So I send in a report without saying what was said. Pretty funny.
Yet nothing is done.
I will be sending in an email to cryptic as well. It's kind of ridiculous how much arm twisting it takes to get something done around here, but I'm willing to listen to suggestions as to how to get an actual reply from cryptic that they may actually possibly ponder doing something about this.
If this person isnt removed from the STO community there there is ZERO oversight concerning what is said in chat.
Which is why I am posting here.

Cryptic GM's will probably take action - it can take up to 48hrs on business days - and of course you will not be notified of the actions taken.
That does not mean that nothing has been done.
And like I say this has been ongoing for many many months. Whatever action has been taken in the past was a slap on the wrist at best. This needs to stop.
You also have the option to ignore them as well if you just want to be rid of seeing that persons chat all together.

Ignore feature is fine. Parents should be supervising children too young to be able to use it themselves.
As a parent I agree. By all means report them, and then click ignore. Seems like your causing yourself unneeded stress by not ignoring him and then consistently reporting him. Do not use the line that you are protecting my children as to why your on the one man war to censor them.
I agree with this. as annoying as some people can be, it is not anyone's job to get someone banned or worry about how the rest of the community views them. all you can do is take care of yourself.
report then ignore and let everyone else make up their own mind. if this person is truly that bad they will eventually get their punishment. its not up to one person to become the moral centre for the whole community.
Well chances are you're one of the very few who are seeing it since anyone else with any sense at all has already clicked the IGNORE option.
Definitely this- I can remember 1 time I got a warning - all I did was state in quotes a published gov't fact - but someone did not like it so they reported me. After that I avoid zone chat almost exclusively unless it is to help someone out. Best advise to anyone is to avoid zone chat - not much good there.
Perhaps when you put him on Ignore, that'll be the final one needed to shut him up for at least a day. (Of course, since you've Ignored him, you'll never know...)
Yea, this is STO now. In spite of the supposed support from PWE and the money they're making, they can't afford to have real GMs on staff, so if it's a comment that might be vaguely related to EC-selling web sites, you'll get banned automatically, and if not, it's a free for all. If enough people report some one or ignore them, they get automatically silenced for 24 hours.
Either way, a real person will never actually see that report, so the people who didn't do anything wrong get banned and the people who are vile and horrible are back the next day with no consequence.
Look at the bigger picture here and it seems pretty obvious that this is a business decision. Some one has decided that they can have a script do most of the GM work for them, to cut back on CS costs (which are probably murder for a F2P game). I don't know if there's a point where they'd actually hire a real GM staff or if that's just impossible for this type of game, but either way it doesn't seem like what they want to do right now.
IMO, you should simply put this "vile" person on your ignore list and go on with your life. Expecting "justice" to fall on them is just going to make you bitter, because it's probably not going to happen.
I've found my in game experience to be much more enjoyable ever since I just started ignoring every single person who says something foul, or makes a "gorn" joke, or anything else that just gets on my nerves. Sure, my ignore list has dozens of names on it, but my zone chat is a lot smarter and less hectic.
In my personal opinion these are 2 of the reasins why things are wrong in the world.
Where would we be without People like Martin Luther King, Malcom X, Susan B. Anthony, Harvey Milk these people were cursaders for what they believed in.
I also believe the 2 people who were quoted here would be the first ones to say "WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE DO SOMETHING?" if they were the ones who's children were exposed to afore mentioned obscenities.
First off, nobody here is gonna be the next Martin Luther King Jr., or Malcolm X, or Susan B. Anthony, or Harvey Milk. This is an MMO game, with a playerbase that's constantly in flux, moderated by a limited number of personnel. There will not be some crusade against racists, trolls, or whomever in this game. That's why we have the ignore button, and why the GMs do eventually notice the amount of complaints being made and take action.
And if I had children too young to be exposed to said obscenities while playing this game, I would be monitoring their gameplay and ensuring that the profanity filter is kept on. In fact, I would take steps to just have the zone chat disabled, and make it clear to them that it should be kept disabled.
Martin Luther king? Lets get a little perspective here shall we. this is not about peoples personal freedoms or civil rights. we are talking about someone being a supposed jerk by one person definition in a game. they can easily be ignored and reported by anyone and everyone if they choose.
and no, I would not cry and complain. I would raise my son or daughter not to overreact to every little thing they saw on the net and to pity the stupid. sometimes people say things that insult someone else. being offended by something is just that. you were offended. no one died. no one was injured. your feelings were hurt. that's it.
if you spend your life being upset by it then you might as well never leave your bedroom. report it, ignore it and move on.
Dude, I think I'm gonna put you on ignore. You want to go on some personal political/social crusade and be everyone's white knight, do it on a forum I don't pay for. I have no desire to have you speak for me, or think that somehow your judgment is better than mine when it comes to my kid.

but just to be clear here I'm not concerned with vulgarity or profanity in general.
I have to tread lightly how I phrase this considering how my reports get blocked when I try to describe the offenders comments.
This person repeatedly, over many months, describes how he is glad certain ethnic groups were gassed and burned in ovens, and others hung from trees.
If this is the kind of chat that you find acceptable here than I think there's nothing left to discuss.

Comparing real life situations of discrimination to online gaming trolls who merely (at the best) can hurt your feelings? Not a very good comparison, at the very least insulting to the people you listed.

Besides, with today's craptastic teaching standards, the Holocaust is taught with less depth than ever, where it's taught at all. This is a great opportunity to step in and teach your child some history; that's a valuable skill for you to possess, because I can assure you, unless you're paying tens of thousands a year in private school, they're probably not learning enough about it in the first place.

Exactly; if you believe somebody is committing a crime, report it to the police. If they need more information from PWE, they'll contact PWE, and PWE's legal department will provide that information.
If you're reporting somebody's chat and then not ignoring them, you're doing it wrong. Report then ignore.
