Upgrading Bridge Officer skills

How does one upgrade Bridge Officer skills?

Let's say I have a tactical Brige Officer with Torpedo: High Yield I. How do I turn that into Torpedo: High Yield II?

When I choose train officer in the menu it let's me train an ability to a BOff but it will replace some other skill the BOff already has.

    You can't upgrade a skill in its rank bracket. e.g. The ensign-level Boff skill will always be Emergency Power to Engines I or Torp: High Yield I. Your Boff can learn Torpedo High Yield II once they hit a higher rank, but then you'll have two of the same skill. This forces you to make choices as to what skills you favour.

    So is it possible to replace the ensign-level BOff skill with another skill and then train the lieutenant(-commander)-level skill with my captain? (my captain can teach Torpedo: High Yield 3).

    Yep, working as intended. Your Boff can have a maximum of four skills, and comes with four skills by default. Anything you want to train them in has to replace the skill of the same rank.

    Yes. The easiest way is to visit Earth Space Dock, Qo'noS or the Flotilla (depending on your faction). There will be a skill trainer there, near the NPC that sells you boffs.

    You may also use a new boff to train one of your existing ones. If you get a new Tactical officer as a mission reward or from the Exchange, you can choose to "Train up" one of your existing Tac officers with one of the skills the new officer has. The new officer vanishes, and your current officer gets the skill chosen.
