Weapon Layout Question

Hi fellow players,

I'm a casual player and have some questions about weapon layouts for ships. I'm a Romulan tactical VA flying a Retrofit D'deridex (solely because I like it - not because of benefits). I only PVE and usually play the elite STFs.

My current weapon layout is 2 fleet dual heavy canons, 1 fleet dual canon, and 1 (non fleet) dual beam bank in the front. The back being 2 fleet plasma turrets and 2 (non fleet) turrets.

I'm looking for advice before I upgrade any more weapons to fleet level.

I know many people would suggest one torpedo in the front. I am not currently speced into Starship Projectile Weapons or Starship Projectile Weapon Specialization. If you suggest these skills, is it wise to remove points from Starship Stealth? I'm not really sure what that effects.

Thanks in advance.

I'd probably run beams in a D'dex, just because the turn rate is so poor. 3 beams/1 torp on each end. The Rommy hyper plasma torp is really good for STFing. if all you do is PvE, points in stealth aren't going to make a noticeable difference, I don't believe.

Beam or cannon with the D'D, either works - with an RCS and a tachyokinetic console you can line up your shots quite easily in PvE, especially if you utilize your battle cloak effectively.

For PvE drop the dual beam bank in front in favor of a torpedo, your choice but the rep torpedoes, omega or romulan, are both great options. No need to really spec into torpedoes to use those options. And as the previous poster said, stealth won't matter much in PvE, so feel free to drop some points out to put wherever.

Also, the Kinetic Cutting Beam (omega rep) is a great aft weapon cannon builds.

Drop the dual cannon in favor of another DHC. DCs are better in neither DPS, or proc rates, and have a worse power drain mechanic.

For PvP, beams MAY be a better option depending on your play style. I have run into some rockin' beam boat D'Ds, but for casual PvE, if you like your cannon build there is no reason to change it.

    Cheers!

For the DD, I would consider going single cannon up front and turrets in the rear. Skip the torpedo and spend the skill points elsewhere. Use the singularity console and think of it as your big gun. Pilot it kind of like a souped up galaxy X and you can have a lot of fun.

    Thanks for the input.

I was thinking about getting the Romulan Rep weapons along with the console. They have a nice bonus of increasing plasma damage.

So, I'm assuming I should drop the dual beam bank for the Experimental Romulan Plasma Beam Array and drop the dual cannon for the Romulan Hyper-Plasma Torpedo Launcher.

I was, and still am, considering the kinetic cutting beam for the back of the ship. I still have 1 non fleet turret there so that would upgrade that weapon. Plus, I would get the set bonus from the console.

That's exactly along the lines I would suggest - the romulan weapons with plasma consoles and embassy consoles can be truly epic in PvE. And yes, the KCB+Borg console is a great combo.

    Good luck, and Cheers!

see and I was thinking along these lines with a Fleet Ha'feh....

Forward weapons 3x Romulan Plasma DHC's (rep system) and the Hyper Plasma Torp
Aft Weapons 2x Romulan Plasma Turrets with the Experimental Plasma Beam Array

and stick the zero point console in an engineering slot.... set bonus add in the threat scaling consoles for my sci consoles and the Plasma consoles for my weapons and re-introduce people to the microwave build again

but its going to be hard to tear me away from using my advanced Fleet Disruptors
    Major Xi'Zzin
    I.R.W. Raptor's Claw
Storm Eagle Class Warbird Fleet Ha'feh
I have never trusted humans, and I never will

Disruptors are the best weapon for STFs and PvE in general, because enemies have inflated hull points.
(And disruptors provide a % based proc that benefits the entire team.)

Since turning is irrelevant in PvE, use DHCs plus turrets. However, you might consider torpedos because of the amount of weapon drain from 8 energy weapons.

And there are better consoles to run on the DD than the zeropoint one.

i'd go for single cannons and turrets, or beam arrays. the difference is only that with beams you wanna circle your target, while single cannons and turrets allow you to aim your nose straight for your target, even with a ship with poor turnrate that's possible.

a torpedo with a relative low reload duration should be a good synergy (bio neural warhead, or tricobald for instance), or no torpedo at all.
    Go pro or go home

Any ship that can use DHCs should use DHCs. In PvE, enemies move slowly and you can keep them in arc easily by reversing. For a DD, worse case is you need to cloak and open the distance to turn and re-engage.

But none of that works except in PvE.
