Proposal: Use holodeck rooms for build test

It was while researching Sensor Analysis did I realized that STO have a very important feature that they forgot to carry over from CO: an actual build tester

In CO, your toon use a special instance for skill training, that can be linked to testing levels to see if the skills are good. As long as you do not leave this special instance, you do not take any costs for changes of your skills.

Frankly, this feature should be carried over to STO. We already have a seperate shipyard in Qo'nos and ESD, so it can be implemented, allow us to try the ship before commiting to it. Also allow us to test our build so that we can make sure it runs relatively well without suffering penalties or bothering other people.

Afterall, this is what a "shakedown cruise" means - to make sure all the klinks works well before the ship is fed into warzone. Can you imagine Enterprise-A facing "God" when the door does not shut well? ;)

You would copy your character over to Tribble and test your setup there.

If I wanna test a layout I run a Tau Dewa Sector Patrol, or challenge one of my friends/fleetmates for a friendly scrap. If I want to test it on Borg I engage in a sector alert and hope for the best :D

I do love the idea of giving the fleet base holodecks some actual use, however. I sure hope Cryptic has plans for it in the near future.

As stated above tribble is probably the best place however the foundry can also be helpful if you have to do it on holodeck.

There are many foundry missions which just pit you against waves of enemies which can be used to fine-tune your build.

The foundry hasn't been completely reinstated since the release of LoR so not all foundry mission are up though.
    Well I can't forget a face but I won't remember y'all.

There are Holodecks at your fleet Starbase and at the Academy and on Bajor that serve no purpose at all. Cryptic should use them for something like the OP suggested. You can pick a ship pick any gear or console that exists in the game and pick your skill sets and traits and Weapons and and the level and quality. Then go run a simulation. Ground or space. This would boost sales of ships and gear as users would be able to see the awesomeness of some of the ships and gear and decide it is a must have and then go spend $$$$ to get it. The down side is there are players that would live in the holodeck experimenting with builds and point out all the bugs Cryptic hasen't fixed or uncovered yet. Also one particular fleet thats sole purpose is to uncover exploits and use them to grief other players would use it to discover exploits to use against other players.
