I'm never one to B****, but here goes. I'm so tired of the daily down for Shard Maintenance. I play primarily in the AM. I get up. I have a few hours until work. I get a cup of coffee. I let the dog out. Welcome to another two hour shutdown of STO. IT IS RIDICULOUS. I let my subscription go because of it. If you are bringing down the server, ask yourself, "Is it really, REALLY necessary." All it is doing is pushing me to play another Big Franchise F2P game. The kicker is, I'M ENJOYING IT MORE THEN STO.
Hey, did you know they're taking the server down to try to stabilize the things that people are whining about?
Breaking news, I know.
News flash, they take it down for a reason.
News flash, people don't read or pay attention. They complain about bugs and lag but when the server is brought down to fix those, they still complain. Which is it people?
I'm US Eastern. I don't care when they go down. It's that they are constantly down. It went from Thursdays Am (for me) to what seems like every D*** day.
Servers are normally as rule down during EU/UK peak times
P.S there is no such thing as a big franchise F2P game only ex sub based games that failed..
Guild Wars?
And I think that a pricing model evolution is nothing like failed game. If WoW launched today few would pay 15$ a month for it either.
If the game went F2P and turned it around then the only real conclusion is that the game itself is just fine. Especially since F2P players tend to pay more than a subscriber would over their life in the game.
You think they should change their working shedule because your working schedule is not in order? It's their game, I'm sure they do what they see fitting for them.
Say the word, it saves the world. CUUCUUMBEER!"-With slight partigen with it." Proud member or DPS-800"-We kill dem mines with our scitter turrets."
Kind of in the same boat - The Late Morning/Early Afternoon (EASTERN TIME) is when I tend to play and that is when they go down primarily - Does it suck, Yes, but you need to understand (as I do) that Cryptic Studios is on the West Coast, so 7am for them is 10am for me (right about the time I can jump on) - Basically it is what the do IMMEDIATELY after getting to work, I can't complain that that is when they want to do the work, I know that's how I would run it over there - so if things go wrong they have the whole staff there to help work on it - I'm sorry it doesn't fit in your schedule (almost as sorry it doesn't fit into mine - ) - I also play on an older Mac, with an older version of Crossover, meaning a lot of graphic issues and LONG load times in the most fun (most populated) ground areas (like First City and New Romulus!!) - but it is what it is. the game is still quite impressive, the new expansion is really great, and soon most of the Bugs will be fixed and things will get back to relative normality (meaning every Thursday Morning we'll still go down and get a fix!!)

The way I see it is that there are three camps (of whiners)...
Those who complain about bugs.
Those who complain about the server being brought down daily.
Those who complain about both and contradict themselves in the process.
This game isn't going anywhere in the near future...
I'm almost positive that there will be many, MANY more AM's, in which you'll be able to play with no problem what-so-ever.
That is of course unless you expire this afternoon.

Cute, I play EvE Online which is not F2P and it has a daily downtime since it started back in 03.
Daily restarts keep errors from cropping up, clears junk data from RAM and makes the game run smoother overall server side... if ya want them to keep the servers up 24/7 youll whine about server errors ect.
Its apart of MMO gaming in general. Deal with it, everyone else that plays during these hours of the day has to.
Not true - there is a fourth catergory - those who understand that a MMO game needs maintainance, that the downtime is little more than a mild inconvienience, and that two hours downtime on a GAME is NOT a life-ruining event.
Well yes, I'm in that fourth camp. The three I was referring to are the camps of whiners.

Cute.
It's a recent development for STO, which has historically only had one maintenance period a week.

... and which will probably go back to that schedule, when things start to calm down or They feel They have worked out most of the kinks.

That was before the MASSIVE amount of extra content was added when LoR launched.
You mean they broke something. Right. LoR broke something and they're trying to fix it. I imagine that's the reason for the very slow roll-out of bug fixes (in fact we know that's the case).

I am a LTM and love the game

Instead of replacing the band-aid every morning, it'd be nice if they just fix the gaping wound that makes this daily maintenance necessary.
Guild Wars?

It is a F2P model.
There is more than one type of F2P model that can be better plotted on a chart than described in absolutes.
Not, it's not, because it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to play without paying something. Even WoW is more F2P than GW2.

uh, sub based games don't go f2p because they fail, they go f2p because f2p makes a hell of a lot more money than sub based games.

No, there are four...
Those who complain about the complainers.
No, it's not complaining. It's called trying to talk sense to people.
