Since I am somewhat regarded as being negative and people ask me "why do I play this game" in general when all I do is complain. I would like to compile a list of things that I like about STO and maybe get some other opinions about what they like. I keep having to remind people that my complaints are not to troll but are legitimate in my eyes to make STO an even better game then it is now.
So here is my list...
1) LOVE Ground Combat - A lot of people seem to hate it but for me, one of the defining moments of this game is the inclusion of ground combat. Space is fine but I feel that too many people focus on it and I find ground to be equally as fun, especially during the levelling stages of the game.
2) LOVE Exploration Missions - I know its a slower way of leveling and does not yield many rewards at endgame but Exploration is PERFECT when you just want to play for an hour or so. It gives you a random mission, which to be honest could be a lot worse and it makes the game feel more Star Trek to me.
3) LOVE unconventional ship builds - I love watching players who are truly inspiring to make ships that are considered underpowered and make them WORK in PvP. I love Torp Boats and other unconventional builds and I feel that the game needs more of this. We need more ships with specific functions on a team rather then just about DPS. To me, these pilots are way more skilled then any escort junkie out there because they like the challenge.
4) LOVE Leveling Characters - The leveling process for me is just not as tedious as other MMO's and I enjoy leveling new characters and taking them different paths, either levelling through story, patrol or exploration. The progression system in this game is so much more easier then other MMO's and is dynamic enough to be fun for me.
With all due respect, you sound like a type of player I would like to avoid. People like that tend not to complain or try to improve things until its something that directly affects them.

So do I :}
There are of course quite a few other things that I like too.
1. Everyone hates ground combat. Except you and me it seems. And sadly, despite how easy and simple it is compared to space, space jocks are a liability in ground missions. :P
2. Disagree here. These missions are terrible due to the Genesis system algorithms Cryptic used to generate the bulk of random missions that can spawn for a player. We end up with missions that can't be completed due to missing or unreachable objectives. But this mostly occurs on the ground. It's good in concept, but wasn't executed well. I'm hoping Cryptic will revisit exploration at some point and revamp it. Keep the general concept of straightforward random missions the same, but perhaps tie the foundry in as well.
3. I don't seem to see these as often as you do, but when I do, the players are generally unskilled. So long as the game's content is designed around the simple concept of dealing damage to beat timers, we'll always see damage builds more than anything else.
4. I only like to level a character to max once, and only once. Any other time and it just feels tedious for me. That whole feeling of "been there, done that." But that first time will always feel like a blast.
This is my first post and I've only been in game a couple days (played a while back but not long enough for any of it to stick) and I love the feel of the game. I don't know what I'm doing (which is normal) but as a vet of years of mmo's it's a feeling I'm used too and actually enjoy. So, I don't have much to add but I definitely feel I'm in the Star Trek Universe.
With that said, I come here to these forums, this is my first time checking out the forums to see if I can get a better grasp about the game and at the same time avoid the negative type threads that usually overwhelm all game forums. So far I'm encouraged....

Isn't that the only reason people complain in the first place?
Best STO mission in the game. I have leveled three toons past it now, and still this morning I jumped and got the willies when that line came. I even knew it was coming.
Whoever designed that mission should be in charge of new mission development.

Everything except for the reputation system. That is the only thing stopping me from going lifetime member.
The ability to turn off certain chat.
The ignore button.
The captains table...so quiet.

The report spam button :P
