Is the game just too crowded now?

So, post LoR I'm glad to see so many people online playing STO, I really am. However, I've noticed that rubber-banding for me, and some other players (fleet-mates and forum dwellers), has been really bad since the daily shard restarts stopped.

I've checked into problems with my PC (none, its new and was running STO fine pre-LoR) and my network (nothing really serious there...I've posted my trace over in the tech forums, and maybe there's a bad hop...but other metrics seem fine, and I was fine pre-LoR), when it dawned on me this morning. Are the servers just stretched to their limits, especially considering that the lag really shows its head primarily in teamed instances and social zones?

IDK what to do, but if this doesn't clear up soon, I'm gonna have to step away from STO for a while. Which is unfortunate, as its one of my favorite games. :(

Those daily restarts and downtimes were a nuisance, but now I'm starting to wish them back, since they apparently solved at least my rubberbanding.

And I've experienced exactly the same in Neverwinter (which I left, as it was beyond painful at the moment), but I reaaaally hope these two are not on the same server.

They're not on the same dozens of PCs that comprise a server. However, they are in the same data center.

So that's two of us. Maybe we're on to something here?

If they are in the same data center, could that possibly cause the network equivalent of a "traffic jam"?

I have had very little lag personally.

the numbers will slowly decrease so if its being caused by the volume of people then it should get better over time, but i suspect its either the players computer/connection is getting old or there are still some minor stability problems to iron out.

That's sort of the odd thing. For every case like mine, there seems to be another player who's just fine at the moment. It is quite strange...

I am also experiencing serious lag, especially during queued events, where multiple people and powers are being used. I have also been getting the 'Server is not responding' message an awful lot...especially while idle, just sitting in orbit over New Romulus. I was just kicked from the game, and can get no further than the character choice screen. Once i choose my toon, I wait, and wait, and wait, to eventually be kicked by 'The login server is not responding'. The middle of the week, in the morning (my time EDT), is almost always one of the better times to log in...lower server traffic. My problems now are worse than ever, since the launch of LoR.

On a positive note, I was able to delete all of my emails before the game kicked me out!

Yes; especially if the new hardware that was put in place to prevent that traffic jam turned out to be faulty when under great load.

    Which in fact happened.

Ah, that makes sense. So now, do we know if this is still an ongoing issue at Cryptic (explaining the problems noted here and elsewhere), or has it been fixed and something else somewhere is causing these issues?

I thought that after the expansion came out. I was getting a lot of lag, server disconnects all the time. Last week I deleted the game, and did a fresh reload, and everything is great now.

Between the extra players and the size of the romulan ships I am getting stuck with another player ship almost every time I am near one of those.

Sorry, that I don't know. There have been previous posts about the hardware problems that affected all the games, but nothing about the root cause of the current issues.

I know there are some stability fixes going into tomorrow's maintenance, though.
