Romulan Ground Weapons

So I'm a traditionalist player, I use Phasers on my Fed chars, Disruptors on my Klingons and was happy to use Plasma weapons on my new Romulan.

So when I created my new Romulan I was delighted to see that my character and any new Boff came with a Plasma pistol which had a new model fitting the Romulan design, and not the supersoaker design of the normal Plasma weapons. I saw Romulan NPC's using rifles which had the same design as the starter pistol, however I've yet to see any player weapon with this design other than the starter pistol.

Are these new Plasma weapon designs available to players? If so where can I get them?

    You probably mean the Romulan 24th century design. You can get purple MK XII variants of these in the romulan rep Tier III (Romulan Plasma, basically a Disruptor/Plasma hybrid) and also now on the exchange: Nano Disruptors (Tal Shiar Disruptors with shield penetration proc), which are a lot cheaper than Romulan plasma weapons and basically identical in their damage.

    Oh, nevermind. I thought you were refering to the old Romulan design and not the one of the new Tier I guns.

    I'd say they probably have the same problem than all the other factions. The standard-issue / Tier I models represent what the weapons should look like and all the other tiers are flashy toy guns ;)

    As a player there are very few ways to get the more romulan looking weapons.

    You get one from a mission reward (frozen mission in the 'freedom' FE arc)
    The only real source of them is the Romulan rep store: all the store unlock weapons have the sleeker looks

    The current nanite disruptor weapons have the same look as the reputation weapons. But they are disruptors. My whole away team uses them, except Tovan. He's going to get a Romulan plasma assault minigun for his ground trait.

    Romulans have two unique looking pistols and rifles, both of which can be bought in white versions from the EC vendors on the flotilla and within Command.

    There are also purple versions up to MKXI in the dilithium store.

    These weapons are all plasma weapons, and at least one of the pistol versions and one of the rifle versions are super nice weapons.
