Is this a request for a Romulan carrier?

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

If I'm reading it right, Starfleet has Escorts for Tactical, Cruisers for Eng and Science Vessels for Sci; while KDF has Raptors for Tac, Cruisers for Eng and Raiders (BoP) for Sci...

And they're upset because Romulans have simply the different Warbirds at each Tier, regardless of what player career you've chosen.

The Romulan Republic has limited resources and can only offer you the ships that are currently available. :P

Be patient. More ships will likely be added as time goes on. The Federation hasn't always had so many ships as it does now.

And there's the silver lining on the cloud that is the lack of choice in the Romulan free ships!

Counteracting that ridiculous myth that players must fly a ship that matches their class. It makes being forced to fly the D'deridex worth it.

especially when being forced to fly the D'deridex and taking it to PVP and actually doing well in it as a Non Engineer..... that can be a bit unnerving to opponent morale when they see a couple of the double D's comin at them.....

I dunno, engineer or no engineer, I've always kind of liked the sight of a pair of double Ds... ;)

The only problem I have with the Romulan ships is the fact that most of them are big. I don't like big ships.

I fly the Ha'nom with my tac and it performs great, but the big size and only three weapon slots fore and aft. That makes it feel silly, So much and then so little.

The D'Dederix has the well known double wing. I knew it wasn't possible, but I had to try it, to fly through it with my little T'Varo. The space is there, but there is also some kind of force field. How would a real D'Dedirex handle that? You don't want the enemy there, between your wings.

You can't do that because player ships use a simplified collision detection shape (probably a box, sphere or ellipsoid).

The "real" D'deridex has shields that do essentially the same thing. Although ships in Trek videogames including STO can take lots of fire on bare hull, on TV a ship is usually dead if its shields go down in battle.

A bit off topic, but, in one of the books, "The Return" (by Shatner), that happened...

A Defiant-class ship given the temporary name of Enterprise for the mission (Since it had three Enterprise captains; Kirk, Spock and Picard on board) actually flew in between the hulls of a Romulan warbird (That, strangely enough, was enhanced with Borg technology...) to first hide from their sensors, then fire on it from inside its shields...

I dont get why they didnt do class setups for each ship with a differnt boff and console layout. So Romulan republic has limited resources and few ship class but that doesnt mean they cant have a different setup for those ships. First officer should be what class you chose for yourself and the consoles should be more for that class. So tac could have more firepower with less defense, engi can be more of a tank, and sci could be just as bad as ever lol.

There's an old romulan insult: Yo mama's so fat, she uses D'Deridex as a thongs.

    I would blame deflector field.

The problem with the limited choice is not that it's limited, it's that a single ship for each tier is expected to do the job of three specialist ships the other nations have access to. As a result they don't really shine in any particular area that a player can focus their build on to maximize efficiency. They are more likely to fill all the slots with gear to patch over the glaring weaknesses. The Romulan ships are meh, sure, better players can do well in them, but that doesn't mean horse****, they will do better in any ship.

If new players are drawn to the game and start as a Romulan they will struggle as they wont have the benefit of 2 or 3 level 50 chars feeding them with credits to keep them equipped with blues and purples through the tiers. The bottom line, Romulan ships are inferior to the other two nation, who have the ability to match class to ship type, Romulans are saddled with the same classes, but not the benefit of role focused ships.

A while back I was warping into New Romulus in a fleet Nova. In the cutscene, I warped in right between the hulls of someone's D'Deridex that was sitting there. It was epic!
