This thread IS NOT about constant Server Maintenance/Emergency Downtime and the Drama that goes along with it.
This thread is about how people treat others in-game.
A couple examples of what I mean:
The other day, in Zone Chat, someone was talking about the new textures that came with LoR. (I, personally, am ok with the look. Not only that, but I think my graphics card has an easier time processing the "smoother" texture, I really think I've seen an improvement in performance. Maybe I'm crazy, but back to the story...) Someone was saying how bad they thought it was, I said "Personally, I like the new look." I was about to give my theory on the faster performance, but I wasn't given the chance; the complainer was verbally abusive, calling me ignorant, stupid, moron, and the like, to the point I simply had to put them on ignore.
Everyone's who's played more than 3 STF's has probably seen this scenario: Some newish player with rainbow guns comes in and blows up all the nanite generators one by one, bringing on a hail of Borg Spheres. Ok, sometimes it isn't even that bad of a mistake, but the end result is the same: Someone in Team Chat starts yelling "You NOOBS need to stay outta here!" etc, etc, etc... They don't say WHO they are talking to, nor do they say what the alleged "noob" did to offend them so. One time, some guy blew a generator right out from under my nose, then yelled at ME for blowing it early.
So, what's my point?
Calling people names doesn't solve anything. Really, all it does is make you look like an @#$.
If you think someone screwed your STF, TELL THEM SPECIFICALLY. In reasonable language. Otherwise, they're just gonna do it again.
If someone doesn't agree with you, consider that they might have a good reason for disagreeing, don't just automatically discount them as a "moron." Not being able to hear differing opinions is the sign of either a very close-minded individual, or someone who is insecure enough in their own ideas that they feel they need to shift suspicion of "Who's dumber?" onto their "opponent."
If someone is sharing useful information, don't be snide if the information has already been shared but lost because of your compulsive need to post useless "information."
So, did I miss anything?

So, in the latest thread about scheduled maintenance, it had stretched on to the usual dozens of pages of whining. I came along after finding that the patch server was up and posted so.
The one reply? "Good job, someone posted that an hour ago."
SOOO sorry, I thought this was a thread sharing USEFUL information about the maintenance. Oh, wait. That's what it would be if people would quit complaining.
Just to be clear, I'll make this another point:

Well for starters, I fully agree with point 1 obviously, name calling and shaming won't solve anything.
For point 2 I've seen the reverse happen a LOT already. Someone has no idea what he/she is doing, screws up the STF and obviously you've got some "pro's" name calling, but most of the time if you do adress the person that made the mistakes they get rude and threatening. I've had a fellow in ISE that was going around shooting things at random and kept getting blown to pieces by the gate. Calmly told the fellow how the STF works really and next thing I know the guy is threatening to find me and cut my throat. Lovely experience I can tell you that!
For point 3 that's a bit of a difficult one. I by no means know 100% of how STO works. No one does but the devs themselves. I can be wrong and I admit it as well. But there's people that keep insisting on their "knowledge" even if they're miles removed from the truth. They keep sticking to their "vision" because they don't want to be seen as the "guy that was wrong". It's petty behaviour I know, but there's a lot of people like that on my ignore list already.
It isn't merely about the name calling most of the times but also about the threats sometimes, especially in PvP. I've had to abuse the report button a few times already because I had nice "fan" mails in my inbox. At the end of the day, respect flows both ways and sometimes some people don't see it that way sadly enough.

put it into short hand, people are arrogant enough that they think they are right and dont need help. then leave them to it, if they are silly enough to cause a problem where one doesnt exist, its on their head in the end. but once again its just another vile abuse of the ignore feature.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
OP, fortunately, and unfortunately, the only person that you can control is you. You will drive yourself insane attempting to herd the cats here and in game.
You do not have the authority to force anyone else to bend to your will and ideas of what proper behavior is to you. All you can do is act in the way in which you would like others to act and perhaps you will influence them to behave more in accordance with your ideals.

I disabled Zone Chat a very long time ago, mainly for these reasons
Generally speaking I avoid any general chat in ANY game because the majority of people chatting are complete *******s
As for the abusive people in teams I just state very simply ... If you don't like newbs don't pug
agree with op.
As for the so called "noob" players on stf elite missions, I've seen them get hit hard my holier than thu veterans and my first reaction is to friend them and offer to help them get the pattern down in standard stf missions. Have done it about 6 times and find it a nice way to make ingame friends.
This thread has now most definitely run its course, and isn't providing any civilized discussion, so due to this as well as the nature of the original post, I'm closing this thread down.

But what if they're poopy heads?
I've found it's the "Moron" option more often than not. But just for you I'll give them two comments before dismissial.
