That is a tough question. Hard to pick one, but here are my contenders:

    Wrath of Khan
    The Undiscovered Country
    First Contact
    Star Trek (2009)
    Into Darkness

My favorite out of those changes with the day of the week.

    The Undiscovered Country

    Why?

    Because..

"You have not experienced Shakespeare until you have read him in the original Klingon."

    ""taH pagh, taH be?"

"Don't we hear the chimes at midnight?"

"Oh, now be honest, Captain, warrior to warrior. You do prefer it this way, don't you, as it was meant to be? No peace in our time. "Once more unto the breach, dear friends."

    Ah..

"Note to Galley; Romulan Ale no longer to be served at diplomatic functions." ;) !!!
"We might get pretty singed at that range, but not as singed as they're going to get. Engage."

First Contact or Wrath of Khan. Both great movies. Though it depends on if I'm in a TNG or TOS era mood.

The Undiscovered Country, followed by First Contact. I think TWOK is a bit overrated, though it's still a great movie.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

    The Search For Spock.

I know, that's an odd choice. I fully admit it's not the best Star Trek.

It's my favorite purely because of timing.

When I saw Wrath of Khan in the theater, I was 9 years old. I liked it, but I was really too young to fully appreciate the subtleties of that movie, and at the time, I had no idea who Khan was.

But when I saw The Search For Spock, I had aged a couple years. I was 11 years old, and that movie just tapped a part of my 11 year old brain that made me a Trekkie forever. I was old enough to appreciate the ships and the combat and the fights. I was blown away by Kirk's decision to blow up his ship and I loved those evil, evil Klingons.

So while I accept fully that ST3 was far from the best Trek movie, it will always be my favorite because when I watch it, I'm that 11 year old awe-struck kid again. It was the movie that really introduced me to Star Trek. It was the movie that made me a Trekkie.

Mostly because it's the movie that came out when I was 11.

For me, it's really a close toss-up between Wrath of Khan and the Undiscovered Country. The fact both are probably the closest thing to what makes Trek great has everything to do with it. As I'm thinking about now, I'd give the edge to Undiscovered Country.

Someone mentioned Search for Spock. I submit that the ST II/III/IV story arc is the best trilogy in all of Sci Fi. Even better than SW IV/V/VI. Yeah I said it.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Re-watched the originals recently, and those two stood out a mile.

Will get around to re-watching the TNG films again soon.

Top favorite, The Undiscovered Country, with The Wrath of Khan a very close second.

Nemesis comes in at the very bottom, competing with Insurrection.

I put the JJverse movies in a separate category. Sure they're fun action sci-fi movies, but they don't really have any connection to anything 'Trek' except some names.

jjcrapverse was tossed overboard a long time ago, its down the to the original canon films.

i would say that TUC is probably one of the best films followed by FC then WOK.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

    "The Undiscovered Country" no question.
Strangely enough the next on the list is "Search for Spock" even though it has in weak points.
I think it's this strong feeling of cameraderie that makes it work.

I really enjoyed Into Darkness. I like them all but I'm going to have to say STID mainly because of Benedict Cumberbutch, he's awesome.

When I just skimmed this thread, I thought to myself: "Well, look at this! One of these discussions proceeding without a single comment shoehorned in about how someone hates the new Trek films! There is hope for humanit......nevermind....."

IMHO: ST6 - The Undiscovered Country. Best ST movie of all times.

Whoa, 9 Minutes of entertaining Star Trek in a row without panic, massive explosions and hundreds of deaths. Hopefully if a new ST gets made the makers remember that scenes with a slower pace are good for a movie.
