    I'm going to backtrack a bit from my original pessimism to again state that a science ship can be beneficial and a boon to a team, but it requires (1) a highly competent captain, and (2) lots of EC. The EC here are for buying the two Adapted vessels to get the new radiation proc.

    If anyone here has both vessels, I would be very much interested in knowing how this thing procs. If it is per damage source, then it would not be difficult to get a 800-dmg radiation damage tick going on an enemy. In other words, you'd have to balance the ship to maximize all sources of alternative damage to stack as much direct-hull radiation as possible. The Nebula might be good for this, allowing you to drop several science abilities plus aceton beam. Add in a few universal consoles, and you can be a respectable CC captain while throwing out ~5-6k dps.

    Again, this is just me stepping back from being overly-pessimistic for a second, and I have no idea how valid this build might be. If anyone has the ability to test out the three-piece set, please let us know if it is worthwhile. Would at least save us the trouble of blowing 180M+EC. ;)

    A very interesting read here on whether or not science is a viable class. My main Federation toon is science in a vest now (sometimes a carrier though) and I have never ever had any doubts about whether or not the class is viable. I don't have any issues with dps as I do not rely on the beams to do that. My dps comes primarily from 2 sources.

    1 abilities that do certain things - ie grav well tractor beams - offensive sensor scan etc . Lets talk about sensor analysis and sensor scan and what it offers. Does it not reduce the effectivness of the target ship that you have targeted. Do you not debuff the target with your abillities. You are using subtargeting right. a disabled subsystem can equal 10k shields with the right team and I pulled that off with a single stroke. can you say the same in your escort. I drain the target completely of power - dropped shields. OOh the escort comes along and pops him. I think there is wow factor here.

    2 what my team can do after I start planting the mobs = Lots of AOE potential Damage

    My point is - A science Officer in a Science ship whether Pvp or Pve is a dangerous opponent. I buff my team and debuff the target so my team can do their job more effectively;

    Sometimes it's a matter of viewpoint. Not every class should be dps. would be most boring.

    I am currently working on a Rom Science which will be my main. :-)

    Consoles from adapted ships can be placed only on adapted ships, so you can't use them on nebula or any other sci ship. :(
