I've never posted before, but I never had a reason to before. Until now, I thought everything in STO was awesome!
Am I the only one who thinks the Romulan episodes are bad? The story is weak and the fights are too long and at moments way too hard for the level. After an hour dueling with the command ship in Defend New Romulus it was worn down about 50%. I had to quit before I got frusterated too much. My clicking finger was sore and I was starting to consider which voodoo curses would be appropriate for the episodes writers. Dying over and over to an overwhelming enemy is not my idea of fun. One ship against a fleet of battleships?!?! Seriously??? There is no tactic that will let me win that, save for repeated death and using my warp core as a bomb. The AI ships are'nt much help. I do not feel that I am underpowered either since I have spoiled my Romulan toon with gear from my main toon. I should be able to handle an episode designed for my level...
The Elachi seem overpowered for the leveling toon in general. The cone attack, boarding parties, heavy torps and teleporting? That's pretty heavy stuff for a mid-level charater to deal with.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Maybe these fights are'nt supposed to drag on as long as they do for me. One battle went well over an hour as I fought wave after wave of ships while defending a station. I did'nt die, it just took forever to wear the enemy ships down. I simply don't have that kind of time (or patience) to dedicate to one single battle in one single episode. Something like that should be kept in STFs. Warn the player to get comfortable and call some of his friends to help.
The episodes were well written, the addition of the Elachi (an old Star Trek villain) and the expansion of the Romulan storyline was exceptionally well done.
And no, they were not OP. Yes the Battle for Romulus was tough, but not impossible for an average player.
The ship designs and interiors are amazing. The singularity core design is bar-none, the best new thing in STO in years.
Cool new things: Singularity core powers, new traits, new UI, refreshed episodes, and Tasha Yar
The drops sucked? I made 3.6 million in extra EC in the first 2 days - mind you some crazy people were willing to pay for it. I really should has stopped playing a rommy and jumped to an established toon to go craft plasma items. There was a serious profit to be made.
Obviously the game cannot please everyone. And there were glitches in the launch (queue anyone?). AND you are entitled to you opinion.
Just forward me your items before you rage quite. Thank you.
There are a few missions that should be updated a bit (for example The Best Defense and Devil's Choice), I can't agree with the rest of your whine. The story is great and the Elachi are awesome enemies in space. If they are a problem for you learn to get better, they are still nothing compared to human opponents. Nothing is more satisfying than blowing up Elachi who think that they can outmaneuver you.:D

The loot is'nt that good either.
I took down the command ship after blowing up 12 times, I agree with people saying they downgraded the romie ships to much.
On the other hand you realize you need every BO on your ship every tool availble to you it's a hard mission but use the battle cloak and your singularity jump you will survive a bit longer out there, make sure you paste your hud so you don't have to click too much and use autofire and the numiri pirates tool this way you may have a surviving change out there.

A quick hint...if you destroy just the command ship, the mission ends.
I can do defend new romulus without dying but its a laborious task for sure
you need to use cunning and guile and patience
1) Let the AI fleet be your cannon fodder let them die while you cloak and move away
2) Let the AI fleet repair then when the elachi attack them rush in make a quick strike on a single ship try to do as much damage as you can then cloak and back off.
by then the AI fleet is dead again and the aggro is on you so cloaking and backing off is usefull but you have to be quick and observant when you cloak cools down thats when you cloak dont wait.
3) Keep repeating this tactic until you whittle their numbers down it on average takes me about 1-2 hours to complete the mission without dying but its not easy.
Have you got to Devil's Choice yet. You won't like the Space combat in that one, it's far too annoying and time consuming even on Normal difficulty.
I liked the missions overall, they make a great addition to an already good game
I did it in the d'deridex it was tough fight am a tactical officer if i would have hade tactical warbird i would have destoryed it in couple minutes it took me a 40 minutes in that d'deridex
Wow, does everyone have to find something to complain about? The missions are not to difficult and that particular mission was actually fun. Either you just are not good at space fights or something is wrong with the way your gear is setup.
Well, if the mission is broken then I can deal with that. I'll get a couple more levels re-equip and try again. I'll give it another try once the feeling comes back to my finger, maybe talk some fleet members into helping.
I do like the Romulan expansion as a whole and the story arc is'nt all bad. The siglularity tricks are cool and the textures are nice. I just have not enjoied the episodes the way I did with my Fed and KDF toons.

Well, considering that his entire second paragraph is about that mission...I would say yes he has lol.
Anyways @OP:
It isn't that the Elachi are overpowered, it's that the mission you are speaking of is broken. We have a conversation about it going on down here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=701571
Personally I very much enjoyed the entire Romulan story line. Don't let one broken mission ruin it all for you.
