Please be kind to the Foundry authors!

painkillerjaynepainkillerjayne Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Each time Cryptic does a large-scale update or expansion all of the Foundry missions must be republished. This is a bit of a slow process, and while it is happening the Foundry Toolset is not useable for authors to create, edit, or fix their work. Historically, reviewing Foundry missions is deactivated during this process.

Unfortunately, this time there seems to be many missions that have been borked up by some change Cryptic has made to the Foundry Toolset. Even worse...reviews are still active!

To any who read this please understand that at this time the Foundry mission authors have absolutely no control over this! A mission that just worked fine before the Legacy of Romulus expansion could be all messed up now, and the author cannot fix it!

So, please...be kind with your reviews and understand that in another week or two this problem will most likely be sorted out. If a Foundry adventure has a mission-breaking bug don't take it out on the author by giving a 1-star rating. There's a 99.9% chance that Cryptic broke it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. ;)

I myself have nothing but respect for foundry authors, even if I think the missions lack some imagination sometimes I have never given less than a 4 star rating to them. Reason being the fact that it must be a time consuming effort just to come up with any mission at all. You foundry authors at least try to come up with fresh content where as it takes cyrptic six months to come up with stale, boring, old content that just does not work right half the time.

5 stars to foundry authors. keep the foundry content coming.

Are you seriously telling us that people are leaving bad and hateful reviews on foundry missions because of something Cryptic did?

This community just went full re***d. Worse than f**king WoW.

    Thanks for posting this painkillerjane.

As stated, we are in the middle of the routine Foundry republish. We do have some reports of things going wrong with the missions that are back up, objectives that are no longer completable, that sort of thing. Not all of the missions that are back up have been affected (I know someone was able to play mine without trouble yesterday) but we ask you to be patient as we will not be able to fix any problems until Cryptic turns the editor back on. Could be next week, could be longer.

What would be very helpful is that if you are playing a Foundry mission and discover it isn't working, instead of leaving a rating, please contact the author so that they can post a bug report or so they can know what to fix when the editor comes back online.

    Thanks.

You should have seen the playerbase idiocy when they changed the rewards for the missions to make it harder to AFK farm.

No, not hateful reviews. Simply bad reviews (usually a 1-star) based on the misconception that the author put out a bug-ridden mission. Which is why I am trying to heighten the players' awareness of this issue.

Good luck to all the foundry authors out there. I spend a fair bit of time playing foundry missions and hope that you get the kinks out soon.

And please people, they do good work, have a little understanding.

Honestly, this deserves to get a sticky. Any time a new patch hits, especially something as big as LoR, Foundry stuff will break. It might take a while to fix, but that doesn't mean it's a bad mission or the author is "too lazy to fix it."

I will be honest, I never really played much foundry missions. But I will still recognize how much effort it must have taken to put these missions together. I opened the editor once just to look at it and I will admit, there's no way I will have the time, patience and imagination to put out something that's have way fun to play...

    Good luck all!

Disappointing this happens. Cryptic should disable reviews after major updates like LoR so that if there is a problem, the author could be notified to fix their mission.

Yes, several of my missions are borked and I can't edit them to fix anything. So, I appreciate it if the player knows this. However, it is understandable that some one star me because they can't complete the mission.

It's not my fault, but they don't know that.

At least it isn't as bad as season 4... yet.

You should have seen how the community treated the authors following the fleet mark debacle. Some people were unbelievable childish, and vindictive.

Its common knowledge that there is a tendency for people to slate missions, just because they have issues with authors on the forums. They generally very easy to spot with one word insults.

Indeed. It's ridiculous how people blame other people for something that is outside of their control, and was imposed on them.

By the way, nice signature drk, looks great. :)

Since the player can't harm the dev everytime they want to, they target a scapegoat.
The foundry authors being the scapegoat for anything hitting the foundry.

It's childish, stupid, and useless, but nothing new for Humanity, we always use scapegoat when something is not right.

I was surprised to see the rating system active, as I could swear I read it was going to be disabled, per the usual. Must have been overlooked.

I opened up the Foundry editor once. I had a story idea pop into my head, so I decided to give it a go. Nothing too fancy, mind you. I had probably 80 hours in, before I called it done. Granted, there was a learning curve there.

The best part though, was that season 7 hit just days later. With it's new Foundry reward qualifications. My mission was played exactly 25 times before Cryptic slapped the Red Stamp of Death on it.

My first mission, my last mission. I'm glad some did play it (some even enjoyed it), but never again.
