With the recent release of LoR, the number of bugs that have surfaced, and the number of failures on Cryptics part has made many people question if buying a lifetime sub is worth it.
A lot of Gold players have been whinging that they are not getting their monies worth out of it... and I can understand their point of view. I have been considering getting a lifetime sub... but with recent events and what seems like a tactical move to put in queues to force people into buying a life time subscription it would seem that the people in charge are trying to do a Lehman brothers...
we all know how that ended dont we.
The bugs in game should have been found on Tribble... obviously the developers didn't go onto Tribble to see if these bugs were there.
not only do these events make already paying costumers question the value of what they have paid for but it also puts off POTENTIAL paying players from bothering to pay for something that is obviously not fit for purpose.
I hope in time these issues are fixed or STO will face a similar death that myspace did.
It wasn't a tactical move. The queues were always there, as anyone was around when Free to play launched can attest. Its just that you didn't hit the server cap until this week, so you rarely if ever saw them.
Here we go again. There will ALWAYS be bugs in the game, its a huge server that will have problems that are unseen until the moment of truth. I went lifetime and I love it. Yes some of the problems can wear on you, but that is the life of a HUGH MMO like this one. If you look at it, STO has less problems than most MMOs out there.
My only concerns as a lifer from the beginning (someone who's actually earned the titles) is that the rewards are nowhere near where they should be for lifers.
We should have:
Real bonuses to currencies earn in game not some quest that only refines an extra 1 k
Three ships. one each per role in game and one set per race, not simply another escort.
A real location to visit TW to without having to go thru extra steps with no real benefit.
Our own personalized armor color for all ships 1 type per race. (Feds should get the gold colored neutronium alloy)
Effective Weapons that only we can aquire would be nice.
I would consider some of these things a required upgrade in many cases to make these things more valuable to the players. You're not going to sell that many gold memberships with the silly things that you have now.
Some ppl are ignoring the seeming fact that this weekend was the second launch of LOR .. -- the 'weekend warriors' launch .
Ofcourse it was bound to be bad/laggy/problematic .
Things will be better in 2-3 weeks .
(I hope !)
My more serious concern is Neverwinter , and it's launch in 2013 .... , 'cause the mess that'll create wont go away nearly as fast .
cant even experience the lag or the ques as myself and several others arent able to login passed the loading screen without crashing since the 'first' lor launch

Is this the first MMO you've ever played? I'm obviously going to assume it is from the sheer utter lack of knowledge about mmos that you've shown in this post.
Login Queues: There's only so much network access to go around. Obviously the larger the network server the more players that can play at once. Cryptic has 3 games going through the same network server. 2 out of the 3 recently saw very large increases in players because of the LOR expansion and the release of Neverwinter. The games hit their caps so boom login queues. This isn't some conspiracy to get people to buy anything, it's simply a limitation of network server space, and something that's already corrected. They probably just shifted around the caps for each of the games and problem solved....well until next time.
Bugs: To be blunt....Shiit Happens. MMos are Persistent Beta Games. Meaning as long as there are updates being made to the game, bugs are going to happen. This isn't like a single player or multiplayer game where you have the base game and then there are a couple of map pack DLC. With games with DLC, most of the time the content is already in the game coding and just gets "unlocked" and the specific textures, etc for that DLC is what your downloading.
With MMOs it's a whole separate expansion that never existed. One tiny piece of coding might have been inputted wrong, or it might be a new line of code is interacting with an old line of code in a way they were never meant to and there was no way to foresee that. Of course bugs are annoying, but there really is no way to 100% avoid them, and often times trying to track down the problem can be extremely time consuming and then figuring out a fix that hopefully won't negatively interact with something else.
To sub or not to Sub: This isn't JUST about what you get, but also how much you want to support the game. Some people just want the toys, others might just want to support the game and have the disposable income to do so by buying a lifetime or gold sub. While others yet might not have that disposable income, but still support the game by making purchases from the c-store. There are many, many different ways to support a F2P game, and not all of them require money.
Does Cryptic fix bugs: Yes, just look at the release notes and you'll see that, albeit not all of them get fixed or right away but they do at least attempt to fix them.
Do they give some perks to gold and lifetime subs: Yes, maybe not as much as people would like, but they are there.
Do purchases and sub help with the development of future content and the continued "refinement" of existing game content: Yes
SO is a Sub really worth it: That's up to each individual person.
The test server was there for US to test the game, not the developers. That's why they opened the game to us. We're the ones who didn't bother testing the game. So we got exactly what we went in for. If I had more time on that weekend, I probably would have made a list as long as my arm of bugs to be fixed--
as a LTS myself, i am ashamed to be one becasue of you elitist types. But anywho gonna skip the line as always and enjoy LOR.
Im a LTS as well, but I don't rub in the line skipping... in part due to the fact that since LoR came out, myself and several others are unable to log in. That and they removed the bit on how "its being looked into" from the message atop. Go figure.

I assume you are new so let me just run through the main points.
No, its not a tactical move. the queue is there because there is only a finite amount of space on the server. at the start of a new season there is a huge influx that usually goes back to normal within a week.
if you had spent any time on tribble you would have known that they released around a dozen patches, each fixing a lot of bugs and responding to feedback. yes, a lot got through because of time restraints and because some bugs just dont get picked when testing or happen because of the sheer numbers of people involved on holodeck. there is a debate that testing should go on longer, and that is certainly a valid critisism but its not practical and in many cases impossible to find all of the bugs no matter how long it lasts.
no, the game is not going to die because of it. its happened many times before in this game, and in almost every MMO ever made and they all continue on because of their very nature things go wrong from time to time.
the impatient will get upset, people not used to MMO's will get upset but soon the issues will settle down and people can enjoy the game relatively free of problems. people buy lifetimes for that very reason. not just because of a few days after a major update.

im sorry but that is just a straight up lie, there were numerous people including me on tribble testing, filing reports, etc before closed beta even started. Stop tryin to make out like the devs are blameless, we told them stuff was broken, they didn't fix it and pushed ahead with the launch. we did our part, the rest is on them.
Personally, barring unforseen emergencies, I'm going to be buying a Lifetime next week. Waiting for the 1st, so it's easier to remember when my stipend is due.

Keep calm, and continue firing photon torpedoes.

true. it is not the first time that well documented bugs have made their way to holo. and im not even raging, it is what it is.
And for every sincere tester there were at least a couple dozen lookie-loos only concerned with getting early access to the new content and never reported a single thing.
so? that still doesn't absolve them of responsibility for the things that were reported and never addressed.
