I only came back to STO because I saw the D'deridex was a ship I could pilot.
It's big, so I assumed it would be a cruiser.
This lead me to believe I should be an engineer class to use it most effectively.
Reviewing the races I saw the 'alien' race gets the most bonuses to engineering 'style' upgrades, while 'Romulan' seem to be centered on tactical.
Is this logic sound?
I only ask because after playing through the opening sequence I'm very pleased with the storyline Cryptic designed and am considering rerolling as a legitimate Romulan, but not at the cost of piloting a 'dex less efficiently. If the whole Romulan race is better suited to small, nimble and tactical style ships, then so be it.
Thank you for your input.
Edit: Of course, now I'm being told there's little to no real point in being an Engineer captain at all as they've no real unique talents that cannot be done by sci or tac...
It doesn't really matter much imo, the DD is a cruiser yes, its actually the first cruiser romulans get since all the other ships you get while leveling will be escorts.
What i mean by it doesn't matter, just think which captain abilities you want to have, d you prefer dmg oriented abilities?? go tact, do you want to be beefy and tank very well, go eng, etc...
Right now i rolled with tac, i loved the DD although a lot of ppl don't like it due to what i said before (you fly escorts up to that point). I tank well enough for now without missing much of what eng offer since i do love to have the offensive buffs i get from tact...
I gave i and bought the T?Varo with the starter pack (seems more bang for the buck than single ships for Zen).
I have no experience as an endgame BoP pilot, but plan on heavily use the enhanced battlecloak by outfitting it with mosty torpedos and maybe a dual beam bank for a nice spike hit when I am sure I can kill with one pass.
Otherwise I am a scientist and probably do best by staying invisible most of the time.
Will take some getting used to since it's a play mode I really never tried.
What science powers are available while cloaked?
I may get another ship to switch playstyles if necessary. Probably a D?Deridex just because the canon ships are way cooler than Cryptic originals (sorry, devs ).
That one I may try to get directly as a fleet ship, though via ingame means, which lets me use my 3000 Zen I originally planned for a ship for bank/inventory etc.
