Voice Overs in LoR ... a half done Job

zerobangzerobang Member Posts: 0 Arc User
WHAT THE HELL is it with these partial Voice Overs in the new Romulan Missions?

Thovan Kev seems to be the only Character who has been properly voiced from start to finish. (if this one dude can do it, why not the others?).

Every other Character, reads the first line of his Text and then ...just shuts up? huh?
Text Pop Up for Text Pop Up... 1 line and STOP.

What is going on here? Where is the rest of the audio file?

Cryptic, either Voice it ALL or don't bother pressing the record button.

This is a half done Job and i see no possible justification for it.

Filesize of the Client? After a 10GB patch... unlikely.
Time / Money ...how much more work is it really to read the few extra lines when you are already recording anyway?

At this point it just feels like TEASING.

You show us you CAN do it... but for whatever reason, somebody thinks its OK to do only half the work.

This is making me more angry than anything, it distracts from the mission more than it adds atmosphere to it.
It is a waste of effort on Cryptics end, if i have to read text anyway what is the use of one line of it voiced?

I played the first 5 missions on Tribble and i had more fun with them and was more immersed in the Story when there were no Voices at all, but i really anticipated full Voice Overs...

*hrmpf*

Do it right or don't do it at all, but not this half a**ed approach.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH DAMN' IT, NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Hey... here's an idea... How about we get zero VOs period? Then the game will lose even more immersion.

As a matter of fact... they didn't even have to give you any new content or new features like this... They could have just kept the game running as is without any updates...

This was on purpose, I remember them saying that they where going to focus a lot of the VO on just smaller sound bites so they can get more voices out there as opposed to none at all.

Think like selecting a unit in some other game and you just hear a brief voice over. Or more accurately Neverwinter Nights from Bioware, which is probably where they got the idea from seeing as they are making their own Neverwinter game.

i wrote at least 3 sentences that implied that i am OK with no VO at all, above these odd out of place one liners.
    Your sarcasm isn't working.

I sent in a couple bug reports for:

Male Borg Officer - Has female voice over - appears to be corrected.

Klingon - Sounds like their voice was recorded in a bathroom, echoing, low.

Allot of bugs I have ran into appear to be the same bugs that were present when STO released a couple years back, turning in missions, adding points to specs, renaming crew changes name, but list still shows old names, etc..

One line of voiceover so you can hear the voice/accent etc, thus allowing you to read the rest in the right inflection is fine by me.

Agreed, gives me the sound in my head so I read it in their voice, not saying I hear voices, just saying I hear voices....ummm...ya

I can't stand the VO's and I wish to god they'd remove them, especially that jerk Tovan. It's bad enough I can't delete him but I have to turn the sound off so I don't have to listen to my female Boff's speaking with his damn voice.

I went with my Liberated Borg Reman Officer for all my ground missions and I generally leave Tovan on the Ship has my 1st officer and whenever there's a voice over when I'm on the ground my Reaman Officers face pops up but I get Tovan talking my ear off, it gets annoying at times.

I believe this as all brought up in the closed beta, but you know how cryptic treats feedback ;)

I agree that the VO is a bit wonky but the real problem I had was with Denise Crosbys narration when you enter the Tau Dewa sector, it sounds like she is reading a story to a three year old. Luckily you only hear it once.

I do agree that it's a bit odd hearing so many completed VO's, and some that just seems to be cut off mid sentence.

When I went to Crateris, and heard Veril and her father speak, I thought cool. But then they speak the first sentence, or even just half the sentence. Or not at all infact...

I find that very odd that it just cuts in the middle of a sentence, atleast the sentence should be completed before it cuts.

I hope that we will see this fixed soon, as it makes little sense to have half completed VO.

And why would you even pay for VO to be done, only to use half of it?? Seems counter intuitive if you ask me...

Can only imagine what would happen if BioWare had done this with TOR... The horror.

Too little VO is better than too much VO (see: TOR). But crappy VO is more grating than no VO, and while Cryptic is far from the lone sinner in this regard, the only VOs I've found to even be listenable so far are Obisek, Hakeev (for MSTing at least) and old!Spock.

Then you should have given Cryptic more money. VO is expensive.
