I didn't spend much time there, but old Drozana has the edge, especially the soundtrack. Don't miss the Devidians though. Bars should be cozy, not "open concept" or windowed.
I have to say I like the new design, but I do have one BIG complaint. What made the place was the central position of the bar, now its stuck to the side, and with all the long tables in the center, it does look less bar-like, more shopping mall cafeteria.
You guys are in error about the place not having windows.
It should most definitely have windows. Most starships are not like Starfleet vessels. Most ships don't have lots of windows. Coming to an open space even on a space station with expansive views is logical for relieving stress.
But the second reason is even more important. It's mandatory for the story. Two words. Comet Cocktail.
The Ferengi would install windows if they weren't already there (Remember Drozana is a Starfleet built installation). Why? Because there whole big business plan for the season is to get everyone on the station buying stuff while they're looking at Driffen's Comet. That was something that struck me about old Drozana, how the hell am I supposed to see this comet if there are no windows? So that part of the revamp makes perfect sense.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
My own issue is that Night of the Comet used to feature the TOS version of the interior... which made the mission novel once you realized where you were.
But new players won't recognize Night of the Comet's interior as the past version of the Drozana bar unless they change the mission to match this.

I know... that was really cool, going back and having everything shiny again. I think time travel is rather lame, and too overused for it's own good, but situations like that are really neat.
As much as I hated the place, going there always had this Mos Eisley "wretched hive of scum and villainy" sort of feel. And that's something Star Trek has never really had, but I've always found cool. So it was really enjoyable to go there the few times I did. (Outside of starfleet dental that is.....)

There is a lot more room, before when lots of players showed up, it looked like a Cluster**** of a mess of people everywhere in a small area.
I think that's the whole point here: Ambience. The club-feeling vs. the Walmart experience.
Imagine the slaughterhouse rave scene from Blade with only 4 people on the dancefloor, or the 'semi-TRIBBLE' (sorry, don't know how to put it otherwise) club scene from Basic Instinct with a couple of people sitting at the side quietly sipping their Latte... Would feel different, wouldn't it?
Some people like to quietly sip their coffee, others (like me) could do with a little more stimulating background. It's just a matter of taste being discussed here, I guess.
I thought of Drozana as a nice amalgamation of sterile Fed and grungy/messy Klingon (with a twist of greedy Ferengi, ofcourse) and I might be leaning a bit more towards the messy most of the time
On the other hand: more room means more people. Bring on the party!
But to be honest I'd rather like to see that happen on Nimbus III!

Indeed, that was one of Drozana's strong points, how we could travel back in time and see when it was new. I don't see the Dev Team going back and fixing that mission. (If they do, I hope they fix that paradox about blowing up the comet in the past).
But I hate the new layout, beaming in that tiny room, going down a long hallway, to a massive open space thats empty. They did a better job in making a bar / club with Hassan's place than they did with new Drozana. They should add some ambiance like advertisements and neons, and maybe some club lighting.
I'm Sorry but the new Station is horrible. It looks like a half dead Costco, and has lost all of its charm and as others have stated, that great connection to the Devidian series story arc.
Of all the maps in the game that could use a revamp this was not one of them. They could have just added the Rom NPC's they wanted to the old station and let it be.
Frankly this is the one and only thing I truly find to be disappointing about this release.
Everything else was done well, but this map is horrible.

Two thoughts on this:
First of all.... I think they might have incentive to remake that one part of the mission since it's the buggiest ground mission in the game.
Second, I agree about the paradox. I think there should be a little follow-up mission with Walker, the Time Cop from Temporal Ambassador.
There really should be two versions of us at the end of that mission. One who never had anything to do with the entire arc and one who did because the entire mission arc never happened.
So it would crack me up if after finishing it, there were a little mission where we get summoned to a holding area on Drozana and found Walker there with a copy of us in stasis and he gabbed a bit about how much he was having to alter the timeline to fix the damage we'd done.
And we get Alternate T'nae as a bridge officer or something.
I like the new look myself, but yes, windows/external view screens would be a nice addition.
How about a STAGE. I see Drozana as sort of a "Vegas" in space sort of thing.. Ever been to Vegas? Where's the floor show? How come theres no one out side of the transporter pads selling time shares on Risa? Where is the cheezy commercialism thats so near and dear to the Ferengi heart? Where the HOLDECKS! How come theres not a suspicious looking character in the corner peddling copies of Vulcan love slave holodeck programs? And how come the lighting is so intense? The overheads should be shadowed like any good night club.
Next trek convention in Vegas should have the art team taking a tour of the different casino's
to get a feel of what Drazona should/could be.
And we still need a Vic's.. Has anyone talked to Bobby Darrin? Vic's may be not doable, but there isn't any reason why Vic Fontain can't be hosting a floor show at Droxana. It doesn't even need to be Vic.. Plagerize dammit! You could go with a Holo DJ Grom!
Oh, Vamank..
You may not have any interest in RP (and yea, some of it is pretty cheezy..what with the immature types going for shock value instead of actuall quality role play) but a lot of people do. Other then some mission content there is no reason to hang out at Drozana unless you want to RP in a social zone setting.
If you don't want to RP theres nothing that you could do at Drozana that can't be done at ESD, DS-9, K-7, umm 2 or 3 other starbases, and ones fleet base. If you don't want to be around public role play then don't go there. For that matter as a fed player theres plenty of mission content availible. You could skip the entire Devidian FE arc and its rewards and not even slow down your levelling.
One thing I do not get is why some players insist on complaining/griping about RP taking place. You can set up a chat tab just for drozana that cuts out the general player chatter so you don't even have to be exposed to it if you don't want to be. Also a note for the record. Role players LOVE new shinies and spend money to get them. Fed Role players are most likely the ones to have purchased every single last uniform option, and the store pets. They generally do not tend to spontaniously RP during a STF, or in the middle of an adventure zone. On the other hand I've seen plenty of potty mouth TRIBBLE talk, and flat out bad manner and comportment that in a face to face situation in real life would be far and above considered unacceptable behavior, that is some cases could lead to an actuall arrest of the persons doing it. Happens in public zones,in PvP and mass PvE zones all the time. Really busts my immersion to have to hear "yea LOLS, he's a noob who can't figure out his key binds etc. Really, don't ban RP, but for gods sake DO ban leet speak!
This is a trek Game, and PvP IS an acceptable form of play (and frankly it does make up for a lot of missing story content for its participants) It's also one of the few places where Red and Blue can interact in a form not involving combat, and not impacting on other players mission play. SO,respectfully, would you please just get over it Vamank. No ones hurting you or causing you harm. You got your form of ego gratification, leave other people the freedom to enjoy thiers.

I think Vic's Lounge would be a VERY easy set to do. It's curtains, a platform, a bar, tables and chairs, and a neon sign. Most of which I think would be assets already in game because Vic's Lounge itself was a set redress.
They'd need a reason to do it.
Now whether you could get Vic himself there is dicier. But this is a world with mobile emitters and the tie in novel suggested he was off traveling away from DS9 now.
I'm not really of a fan of the new Drozana either. It really broke the continuity between the two missions. Then it got me really thinking: If they were willing to change this and add all the stuff they did LOR then why the heck have they not brought back Starbase 24's interior mission. I really loved that.
Oh, Vamank..

Personally I don't find ultra sensitive RPers on ESD or K7 to play kick the balloon with.

That's actually a point I was meaning to check out, I didn't know if they had changed the past interior too. Though logically it could just be a completely different section of the station, I loved the visual easter Egg, in both of those past missions, and I thought it was beautifully done.
I know... that was really cool, going back and having everything shiny again. I think time travel is rather lame, and too overused for it's own good, but situations like that are really neat.

Except for Nimbus III, that piece of TRIBBLE rock.
And that Orion planet from Borderland....or any Orion planet really.
One could argue for that bar on Qo'nos where Kurn and Worf partied.
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
+ 1 for the "don't like" crowd. A more round interior with the bar in the center and a little observation bubble type of roof with KDF, Romulan and Fed ships docked would have been cool.
if they leave the past bar the way it is they could jsut chalk it up to when they said that the station has been reovated alot since the federation gave it up even being in the hands of the Klingons at one time so the bar might end up as jsut one of the renavations
I just hope that the new design helps reduce the filth I call RP.
I think that was the reason behind the change. The new place is not conducive to much of anything, much less RP. As to why they would do so... can you imagine how many of their much wanted new players the old Drozana would scare off?
Edit: If they brought Vic's into the game clearly it would go in DS9.
Editx2: Also, we need more Vulcan Love Slave references in STO!!
I'm willing to bet that 80+% of the ppl who "like" the new Drozana did not hang out there in the past , nor will they hang out there now .
Stopping by to use the exchange is not hanging out .
I'm waiting to hear from the ppl who wanted to RP , socialize or just dance .
I want to hear from the Dabo players .
Are they all having a better time @ new Drozana ?
I'm willing to bet that even the 'trolls' of the old Drozana , the Dental's and the Wesley's don't like the new Drozana .
Is it fun to run around the new place with a fire extinguisher ?
Well , is it ?
Because at this point , most of the feedback about the new place has been negative , both in this thread and others .
I'm waiting for the "bring back Drozana" posts to show .
Comments
You might want to take a look at my reply in this thread, basically the same point.
They not only sucked the soul out of the patrons , but out of the whole place altogether .
So yeah ... . Walmart .
Maybe they could put the Treasure Trading station on the map somewhere which was the design prototype.
