Compared to the Xbox One TRIBBLE-up announcement this launch was good.

I watched the MS conference while I was waiting for the game to come online after a 6 hours patch, and man did MS really TRIBBLE themselves. They have pretty much banked everything on Social Media, Sports, and Call of Duty. They have shunned used games officially, shunned Indie games officially, and show only one game that wasn't a sequel. 35 minutes of the conference was connectivity media of watching sports on the internet and chat services accessed from any device including your phone. This launch might be bad, but at least Cryptic isn't giving its fanbase the middle finger and then expecting everyone to say thank you.

But wait, there is more :O TV services will only be available in the US at ;launch - meaning Microsoft havn't discussed terms with the major providers anywhere else in the world, or at least are no where near reaching an agreement!

Considering how long it took to get a BBC iPlayer app because Microsoft got pissed they couldn't charge for it...

Don't forget that the system requires Kinect 2.0 to even function and that the system, short of a power outage or turning off the power at a surge protector, will ALWAYS be on in an S2 sleep state, monitoring the room for voice commands.

Oh, and the fact that the voice commands and facial scans will likely all be stored on Microsoft's servers, much like the current Kinect's Bing commands are (according to MS' own TOU).

MS really screwed up this press release which makes me sad to say since I've been an ardent Xbox supporter since the day one release of the first Xbox. Now it seems all they care about is TV/video entertainment. The only first party game they showed was Forza, yet they announce a Halo TV series? Call of Duty, a third party multiplatform game, got the largest amount of single topic time spent at the entire conference!

Needless to say, I'm glad I decided to build a gaming PC again. I don't trust the Xbox One and the verdict is still out on the PS4. This much I can say though, on paper, the PS4 "wins" (note the quotation marks) because both the Xbox One and PS4 will be using the exact same CPU and GPU, but Sony decided to go with a full 8GB of GDDR5 for RAM whereas Microsoft went with 8GB of DDR3. Might not sound like much but that'll be a bottleneck for GPU processing as time progresses. Even most mid-range PC GPUs use GDDR5 these days.

Between my PS2 and PC, I think I am fine. I don't need Microsoft's latest breed of smell activated, refrigerating, autotweeting, combine harvesting hair dryer.

MS has already clarified that used games will be possible. Nowhere is it said they are "shunning" indie games. And yes, they only showed a limited number of launch-day games (just like Sony).

Social media & TV are actually a good thing to bank on. Plenty of families will be happy that their kids' game console can also let them keep up with Twitter, stream Netflix or act as a DVR.

I think this only "failed" for the people who want consoles to only play games. Hate to break it to you, those days are gone.

I kept getting the impression that this console just isn't meant for gamers. My dad was pretty excited about it for the sports stuff. He hasn't played a game since pac-man.

as long as the kinect 2.0 is included in the bundle, and not a seperate purchase for 250.00 or more additional.

Games will be tied in some way to Live IDs. If you install the game with a second Live ID, there will be some facility to pay money and use the game with that second Live ID; both IDs will then have full access to the game without needing the optical media.
So, wait a minute - you mean that if I buy a game, install it, and my wife or roommate want to play, we have to buy the game again to give them access??

The more I hear about this thing, the less I want one. Way to TRIBBLE the pooch, MS.

Do you work for Microsoft or something? Why would anyone want to check facebook and the like through their TV when its far more convenient to use a cell-phone, especially given how god-awful it is to type on the Xbox. Social Media is popular, but if you think it is a good selling point for a console you're deluded, and ultimately gamers are buying video game consoles to play video games.
If Microsoft wanted to make an apple TV they could've just made something to compete with that, but the Xbox is really a poor platform to add this functionality to, especially when it is not what the people purchasing these consoles are actually interested in.

Yes, and it isn't like Steam where you can buy tons of game key's for your friends and/or family for half/quarter/whatever cheaper price. Nope. You have to buy the FULL FREAKING GAME.

I guess we can finally say goodbye to Xbox Live Arcade. That was supposed to be nicer to develop for than PSN, and is one of the reasons I went with a 360 rather than a PS3.

    And it's Cloud enabled.

That's not going to backfire. Nooooot aaaaaat aaaallll.

No, I don't work for Microsoft. And yes, some people like to check their social media, even browse the web, on their TV. I know that's hard for you to believe, but it does happen. Even if you don't find it useful, others do.

People also do use them for watching Netflix and other non-game things. MS already has these features on the current Xbox, so I don't see why this is so shocking. Consoles have more than one use.

Wii has Netflix too - and you don't have to purchase anything equivalent to XBox Live Gold to use it. The console is also markedly cheaper.

I access Facebook with my cell or my computer - there's no keyboard on an XBox.

Basically, the only use I have for my XBox is playing games. And if it doesn't support local multiplayer, I don't do the multiplayer part. There are three of us who have enjoyed the Halo series, and plan on picking up Halo 4; if any sequels are XBox One exclusives, though, we won't be playing them, because I'm not about to pay a separate "licensing fee" for each person here who wants to play a bloody game.

I'm also not comfortable with some of the potential underlying that "semi-always-on" Internet connection and Kinect camera. The Kinect system has to be ready to respond to your handwaves at any time, which means the camera has to be able to trigger when it spots movement; and it's at least possible to connect that information to a distant location via the Internet connection. There's already been cases of people getting their smart TVs TRIBBLE, so that the camera can be monitored remotely; bets that this won't happen with the new XBox?

That's a valid concern. I don't think it'll be too much of an issue, but it is possible someone could hack the camera. And, yes, charging full price just so someone else can play the game on your system is asinine. I expect them to backpedal on that one by E3. It won't be free, I'm sure, but they should hopefully realize that's way too expensive.

The semi-always-on bit doesn't bother me, though. And there are keyboards for the Xbox. MS makes one that snaps onto the bottom of the controller, and it looks like the new controller has a similar connector.
