Romulan captain able to fly Andorian ships?

Forgive me if this is already common knowledge, and I just somehow missed it.

Are Romulan captains able to fly the Andorian bundle ships? I know I read somewhere that they will not be able to fly the Klingon or Federation t5 ships, but I'm not entirely sure if that is all inclusive or there are some exceptions?

Any help with clarification, links to other threads or anything of the sort is much appreciated :)

The Andorian set are considered t5 Escorts for Fed.

So no, you won't be able to fly any of them.

I wasn't too thrilled about being locked out from faction allied ships either. I know Cryptic is all about "keep the Romulan flavour" but all they're really doing is cutting choices and slicing their nose off to spite their face by shutting down CStore revenue generators by Romulan players.

I was looking forward to rolling a Romulan but that really killed my desire. Oh well, I just redid my "alien" character to Romulan and changed her bio. :P

Yeah this is what I feared.

I really like the look of the Andorian ships, and had planned to fly one on my Romulan Tac officer, since I don't really like the Romulan escorts much. Guess this saves me a few bucks though, since I now have no reason to buy the Andorian bundle :P

Hopefully the 1000day lifer ship will come soon, and he can just fly whatever that is instead.

Why would you roll a romulan just to fly a fed ship?

That was precisely what I was afraid of. Being allied with either Federation or Klingons should NOT mean that Romulan characters get to fly their ships. Why have a Romulan faction if the character is simply going to join one of the two existing ones?

The only exception that I MIGHT tolerate would be for republic characters to be able to fly Vulcan science ships.

Probably because he didn't want to fly a Dominion ship? Or a Breen ship?

The best thing of all is, with the new lockboxes, I can roll a Fed just to fly a Tal'Shiar ship!

    HELLZ YEAH!

Easy enough to make a Vulcan or a Romulan using the alien creator, not to mention a better choice trait wise.

For the same reason I rolled a Klink to fly a Cardassian ship? I like the ship, and I want a captain of that type on that faction.

If Romulans, especially with a full Alien Gen and the new Trait system, could fly all of their allies ship, why would anyone roll anything but a Romulan?

it was an understandable choice on the dev side.
however this opens up the possibility for the romulans to become the new klinks. you know, the faction that has basically no new content, because noone plays it? ofc not right away, everyone is there, but seeing how little ship choice you have on the romulans, people will probably just go back to the fed side, where the real flavoured ships are, and forget that there are two other factions.

with access to ally faction ships, this would not happen (atleast for those who chose the feds as allies, lol). still it is a long way ahead, but it will probably happen, and that is why I will not roll a romulan as my main :)

I think you're all missing the point. Cryptic don't make tons off the leveling ships, they're cheap because you level up fast and end up at 50 fairly quickly. They make money off the T5 ships, if they gave you access to your allies ships at T5 they would not be able to sell many T5 romulan ships.

Feds and KDF already have most bridge officer layouts that you could ever want on their T5 ships so if they let you have access to them then why would you ever buy another T5 romulan ship? Would you REALLY purchase the same ship that you already own and can use for 2000 Zen just for a cloak and cool but not amazing singularity mechanic?

Besides it would be nice to see romulans at end game flying either their ships or lockbox ships just like the Fed and KDF do, a little consistency would be welcome.

Personaly I only use Romy ships (apart from my tholian carrier) I have the scimi, t'varo, AD and the recluse as my main ships, The romulans dont have much in the way of ship options because, well, they dont have much in the way of ship options in the tv series, the game has some new ones that have been described but not visualed in the ST fluff. On the whole the ships the romulans get are very good, you get your singularity abilities, you get battle cloak and you get warbirds, why would you make a romy if you didnt want to fly their ships.

I made this mistake. I even used my San Paolo on my Rommy as I leveled up. Really helped on that defend Romulus mission that everyone was complaining about. Anyway, obviously not Kumari for your Rommy tac. I have been searching for the right ship for my Rommy tac. I think that I can get just as much or more DPS out of my scimitar as my Kumari. My measuring stick is KA cubes and gates. The Scimitar has more survivable than the kumari and slightly less dps. Scimitar has to be set up correctly.

I know it is not quite the same, but the Scimitar and her variants seem to have similar weapons, and BOFF layouts to match the Andorian Escort. I would think if you are looking for a 5 fore, 3 aft, then this would satisfy your desires. Of course, it does swap staying power in a fight for a cloak and singularity powers. Seems to me that Republic characters get to combine the best of a BOP with the Andorian Escort(and the accompanying drawbacks too).

The other factions need their ships too or there would be little reason to play anything but Romulan. Granted the Romulan selection is rather sparse now but if they plugged the gaping holes with other faction ships when they finally do flesh out the Romulan fleet they'd have an imbalance and they wouldn't be able to take those ships back after they gave them to the players. So better they plan for the future than a quick fix for the moment that will cause an imbalance down the road.
