Expect to be in lines, waiting to get into the game...often.
Once you do get in, expect lots of pop-ups that block important information on your screen during events/missions.
Expect new, colorful, and cute graphics that do one thing for you game...slows it down and creates extra slow performance.
Those are just a few of the nice new things to expect from the expansion.
While the expansion is nice, and does bring some nice new things, it has a long way to go in my opinion.
But...I am sure my family thank you perfectworld...because of the lines I have to wait in to play now, I will be logging on less and less (more family time), and spending less of my hard earned money in the game. Maybe your secret agenda is to get people to stop playing the game.
And to think...I was just about to buy a Lifetime sub because all I kept hearing from the Tribble testers was how great and super the expansion would be.
I will say that WHEN I can get in to the game to play, I like it and the few problems that show up I can live with...what I won't bother dealing with is having to wait in a line to play a game that has been around as long as Star Trek Online has been.
Just my two cents.
Dude, calm down, they will fix it up and the queues will go away soon, just like they do for every other online game ever created.
To me, this is the most improved MMO over its lifespan than I've ever seen. I'm considering a lifetime sub, it only costs 13 months worth of sub fees.
"I've come up with another wacky invention that I think has real potential. Maybe you won't, but anyway...It's called the 'Gourmet Yogurt Machine.' It makes many different flavors of yogurt. The only problem is, right now, it can only make trout-flavored yogurt..." -Apple Kid
Not to mention mail messages at the top taking up twice the space as before and waaaaaaaaaay too big bars in the available missions compared to before.
Uh...theblurch...I was not aware that I was not calm, in any portion of my post. If that sounded not calm to you, you must really think a lot of people around you are ragers.
You may be right about most improved MMO, but I will hold onto my opinions about that (for now).
Yes, lifetime only costs about 13 months of sub...but considering it is free2play now, not sure why that would factor into a decision.
Oh...when I first posted this I was number 963 in a line of 998.
Now I'm number 12,699 in a line of like 12,990. So far it is NOT showing any improvement...in fact I would hazard a guess and say to everyone planning on playing a lot this weekend...good luck. (I will be going to see Star Trek, some rollerderby, and maybe even another movie this weekend)
I understand how annoyed everyone is since it happens every huge patch, but it can't just have been me who sees how trivial this hate is? In about 2 or 3 days, the queues will be all but gone, and no-one will care about this anymore. SHOULD cryptic improve things for next time? Absolutely, I'm not saying they shouldn't. Is it a deal breaker as to whether I will play ever again? Hell no.
I'll do what I did the last few times- something else, while all the hullabaloo dies down, check back now and again and then play when the hiccups are fixed. It's not hard. And are you experiencing slow downs because of the graphics? That's odd, my computer is running it faster. In fact, it should be running faster, since that as the point of the graphics update, loading the smaller mipmaps first. Have you changed any settings?

Yeah... Not the best signiture, but it's my first time using an advanced image editing program, so... woo!
Just a hiccup, Im pleased overall with the game, cryptic is doing a good job. I'll be back in a couple days to see the end result. Keep up the good work guys, keep your chin up and dont worry, be happy!! lol
Woohoo!
In que as number 17,470 out of...17,470!
Perfection.
Wonder if anyone else can beat that? (by being dead last in a que...that is larger than the cue I am in)

That is exactly the point, they knew this was coming and they didn't prepare for it and before you spew your reply, this is the 8TH TIME they have had a "huge" release. 6 more times than is needed to learn how to prepare for this.
I for one (two considering the OP) have had a good time this evening playing a different game from a company that has their TRIBBLE together. Granted I will probably come back in a few weeks, but my money will not. Hmmm, I might give Skyrim another go
I assume by Skyrim your talking about the 1 player Elder Scrolls game? If so, that is a game that was programmed well. Loved every minute of it.
And as for the "as with any MMO, new releases usually have these problems" the one company I can point to that actually shows that statement as incorrect is Blizzard. Blizzard actually tests their games to death before bringing them out, usually (notice the usually) they do the same with their patches. That is the main reason that World of ******** is still going strong and others are trying to catch up to. Is WoW losing subscribers? Yes. But mostly due to either boredom (same game over and over...like any MMO) or due to people not wanting to (or being unable to) keep paying for it.
Now I may be wrong, and if I am I humbly apologize, but there are two major points to why this should not (and what could have prevented it) have happened:
1) Tribble Server - That was where all this was supposed to be playtested, bugs found, and things like 'server load' should have been planned for. As we are seeing, it was not.
Do playtesters (even professional ones) find every bug? No. Should they have at the very least planned for this many people trying to get on to play this game once the expansion came out? Absolutely yes.
2) When making an MMO, you usually want to ensure only one MMO is using the 'server bandwidth' (not sure if that is the correct term)...but instead it seems Star Trek Online is coexisting/coworking with Neverwinter Nights. IF this is true then there is no reason to be surprised that some of these problems are happening.
As I keep getting told "to be patient", or "to chill out" I just want to add I love this game. I started playing the day it came out for real (NOT Beta). The only other game I found to hold my interest as well as this one has been City of Heroes. Superheroes and Star Trek are things that I enjoy watching, playing, and reading about. I think the company that started this game was awesome, and the company that took it over is doing a good job of keeping it going and coming out with new ideas for it....BUT as a previous poster mentioned IF a problem (with a patch/update/expansion) happens once, you work on preventing it next time...IF a problem happens multiple times, saying "It is to be expected with patches/updates/expansions" is a stupid thing to say.
All of the above is simply my opinion.
