Playing this game, I'm thinking to myself how much better ground combat would be if STO away team missions were like this. I was addicted to XCOM and it's still on my drive because it's such a good game (aside from some bugs).
I know it's too late now, but looking back, yeah it would have been way cool.
Yeah, and in 3 years you'll probably be playing something else and thinking how much better the combat is there compared to when you played XCOM.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
I thought the same thing when I first started playing the new XCom back at launch. Not that I don't like STO, but being a fan of the ST:A Final Unity game, I always expected something more where you controlled your whole away team. The problem, though, is XCom style isn't real time (although the old XCom Apocalypse tried it) and for this game you really need real time. Still, cool idea though.

Actually, does anyone remember Star Trek: Away Team? That had the top down and control everyone feel of XCOM, but it was mostly real time as I remember. Of course it had the annoying if ANY of your team members die you fail, but throw in STO revive and I think that would be pretty good.

still have away team locked back there and enjoyed the tactical challenge of the whole thing. i still havent completed it even to this day and bought the thing almost a decade ago.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I enjoyed the heck out of it, though it was critically panned.

its a pretty good game. same combat as tera for the most part but for some reason the game as a whole seems more engaging.

Not every game you like has to be 'good'...
