Ship Variants

Are there guidelines about the advantages of a refit or retrofit ship? Is a retrofit always better than a refit? Does a refit always have X more console slots? Does a retrofit have better boff slots too, or something?

Another thread posted today explained that fleet ships have 10% more hull and an additional console or BOFF slot (or maybe console AND boff slots). Are there fleet regular, fleet refit, and fleet retrofit variants? Or does it just go "regular, refit, retrofit, fleet"?

In most instances a Retrofit allows you to take a lower Tier ship and use it at a higher level. Thus the Galaxy Retrofit is allowing you to use a Galaxy at T5 - and it comes with a special Console ability.

A Refit is a tweak to an existing ship Tier. So a Venture is a tweak to a T4 Galaxy. It's not really more powerful than a stock T4 Galaxy, it simply has a special ability Console, some Boff configuration changes, and new skin.

The Fleet Retrofit ships are the most powerful. They take an existing lower Tier ship and push it all the way to maximum Tier: extra Hull and 10 Console Slots.

    So the run is:

    Base ship
Refit = Base Ship with a different Boff configuration and a special ability, but the same Tier.
Retrofit = using lower Tier ship at a higher Tier - and has a special ability.
Fleet Retrofit = using lower Tier ship at the highest possible Tier - what is often called T5.5.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

How about Mirror Universe ships? Where do they fit in? Or are they more than simply variants of existing ships?

They're just existing ships with the "opposite" sub-specialization of their counterpart Prime frame (Example: the Mirror Sovereign is the Star Cruiser, with a slight Sci bent in consoles and Ensign seat, while the Prime one is the Assault Cruiser, with a slight Tac bent) and a material unlock. (Though the Mirror Qin and the Mirror Vo'quv break this, slightly, switching a third Tac Ensign to an Engineer and not touching the consoles for the former, and switching a Lt. Sci to Eng and moving a Sci console to Eng for the latter)

For the most part they're not stronger than their Prime counterpart, just slightly different.
