Rumor, and a really odd one at that, given the innate difficulty and lack of cost-effectiveness of porting over a frequently-updated game over to a system that just had its successor announced...
During late development, before the closed beta sessions started, they DID have plans on releasing for both XBox and PS3. They even had a working version for one of the systems, I forget which.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
MMOs for consoles are just as bad an idea as RTS's for consoles (like when they put StarCraft on the N64 way back when) because, in my view, there's too many things that need hotkeys, and not enough buttons on the controllers; plus, a mouse-click tends to be a quicker means of reaction than fiddling with a joystick.
There was probably some work on making STO compatible with the XBox controller; Microsoft had originally been one of the development partners on the game that would become CO, along with Marvel, but apparently pulled out after Marvel changed their minds. CO does still support XBox controllers. (NW doesn't, which is a pity - that thing seems made for a few buttons and a couple of joysticks.)
It was originally intended to have it on xbox 360 as well. Not sure about PS3 though. There was a discussion section on this forums at one point for the xbox version of the game.

since neverinter is still in beta...who knows what can happen in a year or so. The controls really seem to be made for a gamepad as it is.
oh how i wished STO#s ground combat was made like neverwinter's:(
after playing neverwinter i would really love a third coming of groundcombat in sto.
it sadly isn't very realistic. sadly there is always talk at some point about this. but the reality is thus, sto as a pc game has far more development flexibility. updates expansions etc.
they are currently bringing out legacy of Romulus. now if they are unable to add a stand alone 3rd faction then how on earth would it ever be a financially viable development concept to port the entire game over to Xbox or ps3/4. heck it's not financially beneficial for them to make a mac version which they have said they would like to but that don't ever mean they will.
as close as you will get is using your Xbox and PlayStation controllers in the current game. which I think you can already do.

Not entierly true. Halo Wars is lauded as the best RTS for a console so far. And it did work very well, the controls were actually pretty good imo. And the game itself was a cool attempt at a Halo RTS, and I hope we might get another Halo RTS in the future.
Not to mention how cool the cut scenes were in Halo Wars, but that goes for all the Halo games really... Especially Halo 4.
It is flat-out impossible for a company with Cryptic's limited resources to port a game like this to another architecture, in the PS3's case a wacky architecture that is notoriously difficult to program for.
When Sony designed the PS3, at the time, they were sick and tired of hit PS2 games being ported to other platforms. To prevent this, the PS3 was designed to use radically different architecture, (based on the CORE CPU developed by IBM) forcing companies who wanted to port PS3 games to other platforms to essentially have duplicate development teams... (However, this decision cut both ways, preventing hit games on other platforms from being ported over to the PS3...)
Since the PS3 does not support Microsoft DX9/DX11 Graphics calls, or support WINE emulation, it is unlikely that the existing graphics engine of STO could be ported over, which essentially rules out STO for the PS3...
I think it can be done well Look at DCUO it does extremely well on PS3 Defiance as well. It would be kool to see STO on PS3 but I have a feeling that it was just a concept that was crumpled up and tossed in the waste bin like many other great ideas.
ok a friend was pretty sure but ididnt see anything announced is this for real?
It's a FAAAKKE as far as I know. I heard something about better Xbox 360 controller support for Neverwinter in Earth Spacedock a few days ago, but I haven't heard anything about PS3.

I liked starcraft for the N64 the biggest problem was the 64 itself it was a limited system that ahd a shorter life then was expected.
And it was cartridge based so theres another fail point if it wouldve been on something like the PS1 or waited till PS2 it wouldve been epic but it went 64 and was a dud .

What Cryptic should consider before releasing anything.
Halo Wars was a pretty decent console RTS
