My favorite TV show is hands down- Stargate SG-1. I hate that the Stargate Franchise is basically dead since Stargate Universe was cancelled. I would love for Cryptic or some other company to make a Stargate MMO so the franchise can begin to grow again and maybe get enough interest that the Atlantis movie will be made or another TV show. There have been 1 or 2 attempts to make a Stargate MMO, but both times it got cancelled.
Stargate deserves am awesome MMO, and it would be the fourth science fiction MMO to be based off of a tv show/ movies. The other 3 are- Star Trek Online, Battlestar Galactica Online, and Star Wars The Old Republic.
Here are some of the storylines that were never finished or could be reopened in a Stargate MMO-
1. The Asurans that the Atlantis Expedition sent through the gate to a space gate and left drifting in space are brought on board a ship. There they reawaken and seek to get revenge against the Atlantis Expedition (similar to when Fifth wanted revenge against Carter for leaving him in the time dilation field).
2. What happened to the Vanir after the events of the epsiodes "First Contact" and "The Lost Tribe"?
3. What happened to the members of the Destiny crew after the Stargate Universe series finale?
4. What happened to Atlantis after it lands in San Francisco Bay during the series finale of Atlantis?
5. What happened to the Pegasus Galaxy after Atlantis returned to Earth?
6.What happened to the people in the Ori Galaxy after Stargate The Ark of Truth?
7. What happened to the Tokra since they were last seen/heard from?
8. What happened to all of the characters that we love from the tv series since they were last seen?
There are many more storylines that the creators of a Stargate MMO could use that were left off in the series and the movies, that is not including totally new storyline that could be created. If you have an ideas for a storylines or other ideas list them in the thread.

I'd love to see a Stargate MMO.
However... the Asurans... Dr. Wier's with them, and she led them through the gate herself.
And its possible that Atlantis went back to the Pegasus Galaxy as A: Even cloaked, its only a matter of time before a boat runs into the city, and B: Pegasus Gates superceed Milky Way gates, so Atlantis would somewhat interfere with the operations of the SGC.
In my opinion Stargate went from great to horribad to okay again.
Stargate SG-1's first seasons were very good for the most part. Humanity vs big bad aliens. Dwarfed in tech.
But... something happened...
Slowly Carter became such an unrealistic genius it was ridiculous. She started out a genius. She ended up the most intelligent being in the freakin' universe. Stargate went WILD with their scientists. Carter was smarter than all the Asgard put together who for some ridiculous and stupid reason couldn't figure out how bullets work.
They stretched believability. It was a show that attempted at first to feel realistic and like it could be happening out there in the real world, just in secret. But then... as you know we go from the 21st century to owning freakin' STARSHIPS that can own enemy space ships who have thousands of years of experience. In less than a DECADE Earth went from barely popping out Nintendos to freakin' literally some of the most powerful SPACESHIPS in the Galaxy.
Too far! Ridiculous! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! That's so beyong believability in a show that originally tried to be believable it's ridiculous.
Then Atlantis happened. Rodney was basically Carter on super Adderall. He was smarter than all the Ancients. Smarter than all the Azgards. Smarter than everyone! He pulled off feats that the Ancients couldn't DREAM of despite claiming to barely understand the technology around him. While Carter was a good character at the start and middle Rodney always sucked.
There were a lot of issues with the later seasons of SG-1 and all seasons of Atlantis and I can go on an on. For one Mitchell was a really poor replacement for O'neill who was really the heart of the show. His dry wit and humor was amazing. Mitchell had none of that and was basically the same d00d as his other show.
Atlantis had an sad habit of killing off the good characters. The Doctor! Why!? The leader? Only to be replaced by a Carter that didn't seem to be a scientist anymore...
Bleh I'll stop about that.
Stargate Universe was slow and boring at the beginning but started getting better later. The characters were more comparable to the first seasons of SG-1. They didn't know everything. The scientists weren't GOD. They were a bit more depressive and the 1st season did suck... but towards the end it started finally finding it's footing. Had some good episodes. But it was too late and most people stopped watching understandably.
So I don't want a Stargate MMO.
The universe was ruined. The last attempt at an MMO was really freakin' stupid too. Giving MMO-style armor to your characters, letting you play an Asgard... too much sacrifice of lore for gameplay (even though the later lore sucks).
I don't know about this. Stargate mmo was a good idea but they messed it up. I doubt that anyone will try something, especially since the failure of "Stargate Voyager" (Yep i mean universe).
As someone else stated, I think they tried to launch one back in '06. It died in beta.
Yes, they did try to launch a Stargate MMO called Stargate Worlds but it was put on hold.
On February 19, 2010, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the development company for Stargate Worlds and Stargate Resistance announced they had filed for bankruptcy, due in part to alleged illegal dealings from the company's now former CEO, Gary Whiting. The company has stated they will continue to support their current release, Resistance, however a statement was issued on August 05, 2010 revealing that development of Stargate Worlds is on hold.
"...Stargate Worlds is currently being audited to determine the best path forward. Cheyenne Mountain is restructuring to be able to fund its completion, and all parties remain committed to the project. We will update you with news as soon as we hear it, but for now, keep track of this project on the forums and continue to provide your suggestions and input - it's the best way to stay connected.[1]"

I really wish there was a good Stargate game, let alone an MMO. It's surprising there aren't really any. It's probably the only other IP I'd seriously consider a lifetime sub to.
Stargate Worlds got my dander up, but apparently those dealings were even more shady than Perpetual's vaporware for its original STO.

I have to admit that you are right about Carter and Rodney having exaggerated intelligence but, Rodney was my favorite Atlantis character.
About believability being stretched by how fast the Tau'ri had gone from barely being considered advanced to having really powerful ships, I have to disagree. I do understand why may think that though. In most science fiction books/movies/games/tv series it takes a long time for the people to go from our level of technology to having powerful spaceships. Take Star Trek for example- It is not until 2063 that Cochrane invents warp drive and has a successful test flight. It then takes 88 years for the Warp 5 Engine to be made and then used on the NX-01. You have to remember that the Tau'ri got that technology from planets they explored, stealing it from the Goa'uld, and getting it as gifts from the Asgard. So, they are not ones that are inventing the tech, they just took the advanced tech they got and used it to build their ships.

There are some really good Stargate Mods, which is the closest we have to any actual Stargate game.
An example-
Stargate: War Begins for Nexus: The Jupiter Incident http://www.moddb.com/mods/stargate-mod-war-begins
If you go on Moddb.com and search for Stargate, there are quite a few mods; and maybe some of them are mods for games you have and you can try them out.
I don't know about this. Stargate mmo was a good idea but they messed it up. I doubt that anyone will try something, especially since the failure of "Stargate Voyager" (Yep i mean universe).
Well if you think about it, the various Stargate stories kinda parallel the Star Trek franchise:
1. Stargate TOS = Stargate the movie. Sets the initial ideas of the Stargate storyline.
2. Stargate TNG = Stargate the series. Events begin sometime after the original. Series adds lore and changes some lore.
3. Stargate DS9 = Atlantis. Stargate from a distant base. Runabout...er, puddlejumpers are used to make up for the station's lack of mobility. Eventually the station moves.
4. Stargate Voyager = Universe. lost and trying to get back.
One thing the OP didn't mention was that Stargate has clear lore for multiple alternate realities. It would be easy to "reboot" by telling the story of one of those.
One thought that crossed my mind a while back was that maybe they could get back to the original bad guys, the Goauld. How? Via a returning large-scale Goauld deep space expedition, either by ship or gates, it doesn't matter. Upon learning the local Goauld were wiped out, these establish themselves as a new council, complete with more powerful technology they plundered, in typical Goauld fashion.
Play as all your favorites from the Stargate universe in this new and exciting mmo release from Cryptic Studios.
Discover gate addresses to unlock the galaxy at your finger tips, walk through the gate and explore Abydos and other locations from Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and unlock the mysteries of the Ancients ship Destiny from Stargate Universe.
Discover and collect ancient goa'uld cargo containers on your adventures and unlock them with amulets, possibly even unlocking a goa'uld transport ship, Death Glider, or even an Asgard fighter. (Goa'uld cargo containers require an amulet key purchasable via the c-store.)

This post made me think that JJ Abrams could do a reboot to Stargate by putting it in an alternate timeline or an alternate reality like he did with Star Trek.

with Stargate worlds hitting the scrapheap. i can give some info on all the above.
1. the asurans were wiped out by the replicators in effect, there is not much chance of that happening twice.
3. they went into stasis except for Eli. according to the writing, it was mostly to avoid the large 3 year gap between galaxies.
4. it was probably studied in great detail to learn more about how the whole thing worked, it is after all an advanced piece of technology. after this, it was likely to be sent back to the Pegasus galaxy to keep the wraith in check.
5. with the wraith confused and disorganised, thats probably how it will be for some time. i doubt anything will change out in that part.
6. the last of the ori was in a celestial battle with an ascended ancient, it could last time and beyond before that fight is solved. as for the subjects under that illusion, they went back to their lives.
7. the Tok'ra built a new homeworld and it was shared by the Jaffa since Dakara was destroyed a year earlier because of some mad man attracting the wrong attention... however the Tok'ra were a dying race upto this point due to a noticable lack of a queen to spawn more Tok'ra.
8. O'Neill and Harriman are and probably still at homeworld command. Carter is in command of the George Hammond (The actor who played Hammond died of a heart attack a few years back, RIP to him). Daniel Jackson is probably on some dig somewhere or doing some heavy undercover work for O'Neill. Landry, Siler, Lam and Lee have probably remained at stargate command. Vala and Teal'c have likely left the program and went their own separate ways to continue to fight the good fight. Mitchell is probably still in command of SG1.
Now as far as games go, there is a current stargate game going, its called stargate sg-1: unleashed. looks like it was built for the tablet computers, but it appear that its going to be expanded into pc and xbox360.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
