I don't know why, possibly because you can't use any standars powers in sector space ? And it's not like it would be of any use to cloak in sector space anyway. :P

Most powers are disabled in sector space. Why? Because Cryptic, that's why.

not true. I can see warping into a zone cloaked being useful. however the first dialaug you do would decloak you. I cant see why the cloak is a console instead of a ship power like it used to be. and more over why its not a battle cloak like its supposed to be. that would be cannon.

What would be the point in being invisible while you fly from planet A to planet B to start your next mission? You don't want your friends to see you flying to the planet? If so, simply change zones. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

It's not about overlooking it. It's about understanding that STO is an MMO. People seeing you in Sector Space can lead to PMs, and potential teaming, and the like. The original goal of STO wasn't for people to be constantly cloaked and playing the games all by themselves. :)

there is no major point just as i said its the little details that matter, even little things like this make the game more realistic, there are RP ers in the game too maybe they would enjoy just being able to cloak while travelling

The Federation Council banned the use of cloaking on its ships in sector space in the year 2402. That ban is still in effect in 2409. Maybe when the Iconians return it may be lifted?

You mean aside from the fact that the ship you're referencing was destroyed 40 years prior to STO?

Which only makes it more difficult for other players to see you in Sector Space, and thus contact/team with you. For the sake of Role-playing or not cloaking in Sector Space is nearly the antithesis of what an MMO is about.

    Not a logical conclusion...
Feds cannot cloak in sector space...
KDF cannot cloak in sector space...
Roms probably also cannot cloak in sector space... (havent been on tribble)

The KDF has been at war with the Federation for many years so they are not going to listen to the Federation Council.

Probably just a development flaw...

No you guys have it all wrong, no ship can cloak in sector space because of the anti-cloak Inhibitors that have been place all over the place.:P

It's probably a technical limitation, but cloaking in sector space sure would be nice, as would not decloaking for dialogue or when scanning anomalies.

Basically, cloaking needs a complete overhaul, but since Cryptic didn't see fit to do it for the introduction of Romulans, I doubt it will ever be done.

There's really no point in cloaking in sector space so why give the devs more work?
    Say NO to ARC!!!!!

I think the whole cloaking business is a little odd.
In the show, you could certainly talk to someone on the bridge, and I think you could do sub-space, too.
I think cloaks need a buff, and there should be (imo) no difference between Battle Cloak and Cloak, all should be one.
Or, perhaps battle cloak could mean firing while cloaked.
But, if that where the case, then PvP would be unbalanced.
    BUFF CLOAKS (imo)!

It would be nice to cloak in sector space. I don't think there is a need for it though since you can't engage in direct combat with other vessels in sector space.

However, allies can always see you. Even when cloaked. Ever seen someone cloak at ESD? You can see the same cyan wireframe that you do when you, yourself cloak. So everyone who could team with you could actually still see you, it would just be the opposing faction that couldn't.

The difference between battle cloak and normal cloak is that, battle cloak can cloak at will even during combat. Normal cloak can't do that. That is why it's called battle cloak because its like a captain performing attack patterns.

I still think the Tac escort (non fleet version) should have had a battle cloak as standard (the defiant although long destroyed in the timeline of the game) had a Romulan cloak used with permission from the romulans for the dominion threat. However, the fleet version due to its extra tac console slot should have a slotted cloak that works similar to a battle cloak, ie it can't be used while under direct fire but when not being engaged (but still under combat conditions) it can be used.
