So, I want an Aquarius...

I play STO in a super-casual way, so fleet stuff has never really been on my radar, but I absolutely must have an Aquarius, so I need some info.

Assuming I could find myself a fleet, what exactly is involved in getting this ship? I know it costs a certain number of Fleet Marks, but how does one go about acquiring them in those sorts of amounts? Are all the Fleet ships a massive grindfest to attain? Do I need to do anything specific in terms of fleet-related activities in order to attain the ship, or is that purely down to the policies of the people running a particular fleet? Am I going to require any other resources beyond the FM and the C-Store items?

You need to find a tier 4 fleet willing to take you on, and give you access to ship provisions. You need 20,000 fleet credits and 4 fleet modules in order to get the ship.

Fleet ships cost Fleet Credits, not Marks. You gain Fleet Credits by contributing to fleet projects on their starbase and embassy. These contributions include dilithium, doffs, common gear, commodities, particle traces... but Fleet Marks are the most lucrative way. These marks are mostly earned through fleet actions accessed through the PvE queue.

20k credits is not a lot, you will rack that up easily just by progressing through the fleet anyway.

Don't forget you can purchase fleet ship modules from the exchange under data samples.

And don't expect the Aquarius to actually be any good, but if you enjoy it then I suppose that's worth it.

He is correct, Fleet Credits instead of Fleet Marks. That was a typo on my part!

or u can purchase the regular aquarius using 200k fleet credits rather than 4 FSM's.
*Me*Why don't you just step away from the weapons console. You and I both know that you couldn't hit that cube, even if it was right in front of us.
*Junior Tactical Officer* But sir the cube IS right in front of us.
*Me* EXACTLY! Its right in front of us and you still missed it! Just step away from the console.

The ships cost Fleet Credits, and also require some number of Ship Modules. In the case of the Aquarius it is 20k fleet credits, and 4 modules.

Fleet Credits are given to you whenever you contribute to a fleet project. Fleet projects are things like "upgrade the starbase" and require you to contribute a variety of resources (almost identical to the reputation system, if you've done any of those). Each project requires a fixed set of resources, which include Fleet Marks, dilithium, commodities, duty officers, and so forth. The conversion rate for resources to fleet credits is here. You can collect fleet marks by doing some missions (things like Azure Nebula Rescue award them, and several others). Or you can just contribute some other resource. You could buy some zen at the c-store and convert it to dilithium, and then donate that to a project for a 1:1 fleet credit exchange. At present conversion rate, 20k dilithium is about 154 zen.

The ship modules are sold on the c-store for 500 zen each, so 4 of those will cost you $20 at the c-store. Some people also sell them on the exchange for ~4 mill EC, so you could buy them all for less than 20 million credits.

Short answer: find a fleet that has a shipyard that can produce it, contribute to their projects, then buy the modules, and then buy your ship.

Righto, thanks guys, that site was especially useful(looks like I already have about 17,000 FC worth between Expertise, Dilithium, and unused Doffs). Now I just need to find a fleet.
