I made my first purchase since F2P

It was just the starter pack, but I was really impressed with the expansion when I played it a few weeks ago and felt I should start supporting the game again. The art is amazing and the game has finally matured into what I expected it would be when I ordered it off Amazon a few months after it was released. The new artwork in particular is spectacular.

I don't much care for the lockboxes (one of the main reasons that I have steered clear of paying for the game since F2P) but I have to thank the gambling addicts for funding this awesome expansion.

If any developers are reading this, kudos. Once this is up and running, you deserve a month long vacation.

I look forward to the Cardassian and Ferengi expansions and more voice actors from the show making appearances.

Congratz on your purchase. I'll race your T'varo against mine when LoR goes live. :D
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

LOR has been very good and I really enjoy testing it!

I picked up the Starter Pack the 1st day it was offered but now I think that I'll get the Legacy pack has well.

If Cryptic continues to pump out content like what can be found in LOR I'll have no problem throwing some of my cash at them :)

GAH! I decided to pull the trigger on a starter pack myself, after I determined that the T'Varo was a good choice for me at lvl 50.

Then, I read the dev blog where they said as a LTS holder, I would have gotten one for free anyway. :o

Yeah, but now you can get the T'varo and something else for free. :)

i Don't Much Care For The Lockboxes (one Of The Main Reasons That I Have Steered Clear Of Paying For The Game Since F2p) But I Have To Thank The Gambling Addicts For Funding This Awesome Expansion.

    • Impressed with LoR - Check
    • Art improved - Check
    • Dosen't care for grab bags - Check
    • Thanking gambling addicts - Not gonna happen. They keep the boxes in game after all
    • Kudos to Devs - Check... Did purchase after all
    • Looking forward to other expansions - Not so much (quite satisfied at this point)
    • First pre-F2P purchase (except for what I had already gotten C-Points for - Check

We are pretty much in the same boat... So I agree with you.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

After the fiasco with the introduction of fleet ships and the discount you get (which does not apply to VA token ships), I am probably going to either select a VA ship I don't particularly care for or just select the most sensible one for each character.

Right now, I am thinking I will make two Romulan (liberated perhaps?) characters: a science officer who might fly the D'deridix (or the canon science vessel when that comes out) and a tactical officer who might try his hand at a tactical torpedo boat with the enhanced battle cloak that comes with the starter pack.

I have also been very happy with the expansion so far on Tribble. I did just now purchase the starter pack and like OP was the first actual cash I spent since F2P(I have traded dil for zen though to get the vesta pack and some other z-store items). I will probably just trade dil for zen for some of the T5 ships that the Legacy Pack comes with because I don't need all of that.

And it's a HUGE amount for the casual player... :(

But I may get the "Starter" one if just to thank the development team for giving us the pleasure of playing a Romulan. :)

...although I still wish I could get to make Remans too. Couldn't care for the package's ships, admittedly, since I play only every now and then and never bothered with upper-end content...

But the Remans! And their uniforms! For RPG!

Groan. Guess I will have to keep hoping they start selling them separately for a huge amounts of harvestable C-points at some point in a far future...
I look forward to the Cardassian and Ferengi expansions and more voice actors from the show making appearances.

When THAT happens (Cardassians), then I will SERIOUSLY consider taking a full legacy pack and a running subscription. If they promise they'll make it in one year, I could start saving money for it now... :D

to be honest, when i first played STO i was disapointed. It was a half done game, but finally cryptic has delivered a complete game.
Still a little disapointed that romulans are not the 3rd power in the quadrant, but i guess the story and how the game has developed in 3 years supports the decission to add them to both the existing factions.

anyway, i'm glad the game has developed into what it is now on tribble and i hope the good stuff keeps coming, especially the featured episodes in regular intervals.

*I'd also like to see a single sector space, even though captain gecko said it would be a huge undertaking

    @elora13:

You will be able to do a Reman toon 2 other ways.

You can purchase as playable species from C-Store (prob 600 Zen)

    Or

They are saying if you have a toon who is already T5 Romulan Reputation, you will be able to run an Unlock Project to get them. The resource costs have not been released yet. I am hoping it is NOT a 200,000 Dil Project.

    YAY!

Guess I'll be better off farming dilithium for either direct purchase or C-Points trade, then... :o

    Thanks for the info!

I just got the start pack myself. I believe there's no shortage of players looking forward to this expansion.

I know lockboxes are still a sensitive issue for some players but you can see what they are helping to fund in the game. Thing is it isn't just gambling addicts using the lockboxes. There's a lot of trade of zen and dil. Some get the master keys to sell for ec to buy other things. I am saving lobi for some lobi store items and whatever drops from the lockbox is a random bonus. I don't pay money for master keys but I have no issue trading dil or ec for them.

Unfortunately, I will be working for the rest of the month and will miss the launch. But when I when I return to the United States in June, I look forward to start leveling a Romulan. I just have to decide whether to do science or tactical first.

I hope everyone enjoys the expansion and just want to thank those at Cryptic who worked hard on this for the better part of a year again.

Hi guys, first post, but been playing for more than one year.

I'm at rank 43 I think, been playing the game entirely PVE and running team missions etc, PVP does nothing for me as I am far from an experience MMO or STO player.

I have to say I bought the starter pack for STO at the outset, amongst some other things, mainly bridge officers and so forth. Then I got the bug and began buying the play to win goodies that my rank could unlock- all the rare weapons and consoles so if you've ever seen some tiny frigate or something sporting ridiculous amounts of dilithium bombing stuff that was probably me.

Have to agree I don't much care for the lock boxes, though I am happy to spend money now and again on rarer ships, I mean I had the retrofit science vessel at tier 2, then the Excelsior refit after that, and currently I am running an Assault cruiser. I have retained all my ships as I am a bit of a collector addict when it comes to this kind of game though I am forever recycling the mundane loot in the replicator.

So the crux of my post is this, help me if you would be so kind. I really enjoy STO but I have no clue what everything means or how to work everything, in fact given my experience of some players of similar rank to me who seem to be dish out much more damage and live longer, I think perhaps I am going wrong somewhere.

Anyway, I will soon be rank 45 and unlock some of the higher tier weapons and goodies. At this time I am keen to try another ship type, probably an escort or something because I've been with cruisers the whole time apart from way back along when I had a science ship.

That being the case, is there any particular ship I should buy (with actual Zen/real money) and if so, how would you load it out??

Currently on my assault cruiser I run a pair of phaser arrays, a polaron bank and a transphasic torp launcher in the front, with phaser arrays and a transphasic launcher aft.

I know this is probably anathema to real or veteran STO players but I don't have much clue about this stuff, I know its not really a traditional fed load out but it sounded good.

So, new ship, new load out. Can you give me the run through on what I would splash a load of dilithium on at rank 45? If you could keep it simple it would be good, I don't understand buffs, boffs or debuffs and probably never will so a brief explaination of each component would be ideal, plus what you think of my current load out.

Regarding my play style I like to be a team player, the guy who valiantly puts his ship in harms way and takes a pounding, whilst also I will try to assist the smaller ships who bite off more than they can chew- shield extend etc. I also use fire at will, torpedo salvo and aceton beam, as well as two shield reverse harmonics and hull repair etc.

Just an over-enthusiastic novice with money but not sense. Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance. Any advice would be gratefully recieved.
