What Did You Do To Veril?!?

mattdawsonmattdawson Member Posts: 87 Arc User
Cryptic, I have to ask; why did you change the look of Veril?

Her original appearance before the change to open beta was more in-keeping with the Reman aesthetics IMHO. Now she looks horrible.

Previous look

You can partly change her back to the old look. She now has three different head types, one very similar to the old one.

Which is what I have tried, but I can't do an exact match. She was FAR better with the pre-open beta look, which IIRC was head 1 but with the spots texture. I've fudged it with head 2 but even so, I much preferred the original look.

Which brings me onto another point; why can't we change the spots look?

Head 2 seems to be lacking a lot of options, like ways to color the lips or change the spot hues, and Remans seem to lack that greyish range of skin tones, they only get the romulan tones.

Why was this changed? She is ugly as sin now. Please revert it.

I liked her original look too. It's good to have the customization options, but can't we have options that'll make her look like she used to? Please and thank you. :)

I think her old look was essentially a placeholder. I mean, all it was was a standard female humanoid face, with Reman ears, spots, and brow ridges.
Now her face actually matches the male Remans in the flattened nose department.

I really liked her more feminine look in Closed Beta. The new version is feminine but just doesn't appeal to me.

But I love the various options she gets as a Reman, such as the Reman goggles (which seems to hint the aliens that faced Picard in finding B4 were Remans than aliens native to the world), a hood, and other interesting options.

Also, on Crateris, her appearance switched between the old version and the new one. Cryptic needs to fix that.

Also, is it me but during her introduction on Crateris, her appearance switched between the old version and the new one?

Her ground model was changed, but the pre-rendered portraits when she chats during the mission still have the old graphics.

Why you making like I didn't know?

I was pointing out it's something for Cryptic to fix.

I'd love to see a screenshot of the new model for comparison. However, it seems to me that its an intended change. Remans aren't exactly known for their beauty, they are modeled after the nosferatu vampires. Would it hurt to finally have a species where the females aren't "hot alien babes" but as scary/revolting as the males?

It depends lord7tareq, are you Captain Kirk? =P

I did prefer the old look tbh.

Well it is of course a matter of taste, but I prefer the new look. The old look was too human in my view. A nice human face with some Reman attributes. The new look is more in line with Reman aesthetics.

Reman females don't even look like the same species as the males do. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy or bad and evil or whatever, PLEASE bring the females back in line with the look of the males. Pre-open beta, I got a female Reman bridge officer and the first thing I thought was "Dear god, what the heck is this, this HAS to be a bug, it doesn't even look anything LIKE a Reman." It's like if Klingon males looked like they do now, and the females were changed to have smooth foreheads and their ridges moved to the sides of their heads (Yes, I know it's not a comparison that would ever happen, but I'm just trying to make a point here) They wouldn't even look like Klingons. The Reman females don't LOOK Reman, they just look like some sort of completely unrelated weird alien.

Okay, I'll grant that the old Veril was more a quick placeholder -- the facial features below the brow were just human and not really fitting for a Reman. So I'm okay with having that changed to a more Reman-appropriate look, though it essentially means giving her a smack with the ugly stick, from a human point of view.

I guess what I'd like to see is the first head option with some expanded spot/makeup/marking choices. It seems to be locked into a rather plain state right now. I'll have to take a look at it in the tailor and see if I can come up with specific examples.

It really doesn't matter much to me, as soon as I could I put her in a Reman hood with shades on, it's the closest I could get to putting a bag over her head. I will agree though, I don't see why it was necessary to change the artwork to make her look so freakish.

I like the new look and to be honest i think the female remans look much more like the remans in nemesis then the male ... :/

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100529011427/memoryalpha/en/images/9/98/Reman_viceroy.jpg -> there skin is much smoother then -> http://hydra-images.cursecdn.com/sto.gamepedia.com/thumb/4/49/Obisek.png/260px-Obisek.png

and i think the females are much nearer on this look :/

Considering how the males look I had feared that the females would be positively scarey looking, so the current incarnation is something of a relief.

Yeah some of this kinda bugged me too. Here's an attempt I made, though I forogt to even try to change the skin tone. http://marhawkman.deviantart.com/gallery/#/art/Veril2ac-370696719?q=gallery%3Amarhawkman%2F20315570&qo=0&_sid=7edffaf4

No it doesn't.... the males actually have kinda bulbous noses. In the movie, they do have (relatively) flat noses, but their noses are rather wide.

The new look for female remans is nothing like either....

The main things preventing us from making an 'old' Veril are the skin texture (shiny for type 1, but not for type 2, which otherwise looks more like old Veril) and being able to set the makeup color. This second one is probably a bug, as makeup color is changeable for many species, and it doesn't make sense for the Remans to have bright fushia but not darker tones. If you could make the makeup black, it would go a long way in returning the look to Veril.

I lvoe the new look, although I can't really get it to work in the tailor (can't set colors for makeup and skin). The old look was too human - we already have enough species that look exactly alike.

I played around with the appearance settings for Veril a bit and found a look I am comfortable with. I think the biggest issue for me is the skin coloration. I'm hoping that it's not intentional for her to only have the options for Romulan skin tones.

If I could get her some lighter gray or ashen tones, I think it would pretty close for me to the existing Reman design.

Personally, I would like to see some more options in the costume editor so that I can revert Veril to the old look. Though it's not even the new skin textures that disturb for me really; it's the eyes, the big freaky eyes.   On most other Remans in the game, they have much smaller eyes, but on Veril (as well as a revamped Lotrix in "The Price of Neutrality"), the eyes are much bigger, making me think of some creepy creature from some weird black-and-white sci-fi flick. I've tried all the options in the costume editor to change the eyes back, with no luck. I'd just be happy with some options to change the eye structure back.

if we could just change the skin color and makeup color we could probably get really close to the old look.

the new one is yellow-y colored wile the old one was more of a grey

To change the makeup color, switch the head to Reman 3 and change the Overall Pattern color. Then switch to Reman 1 to set the pattern to Reman Makeup 3 (which is the eyes + lips pattern for Remans, unlike for those with standard humanoid makeup options), then switch to Reman 2 to get the head. The makeup pattern "sticks" between 1 and 2 (it's just a weirdly hidden option on 2), and the makeup color "sticks" between all three (again, it's a weirdly hidden option on 1 & 2). The base skin color can be changed from the basic color options bar at the top.
