My ideas for the future in STO

This isn't what you think it is :P

I am a long time player but rarely post in the forums, but always get my daily fix and laughs from the asylum known as the STO forums :D

This is me starting a thread where i will put down some ideas i have had while playing one day, and for the forums to discuss and also put their own sensible and logical ideas also. Feel free to scrutinise my ideas, agree with me, shoot me down etc, whatever takes you're fancy.
So here goes *takes deep breath.......*

Quality of Life:-
The Accolade tab to actually have tabs for each section of the Accolades to make it easier to find what you are tracking.

(only 1 i had so far )

Crafting:-
We all know crafting needs an overhaul but my suggestion is class specific crafting. Basically each class has specific items, consumables etc that only they can craft (then sell if they want). This would provide another unique option towards each class also imho.

Traits:- I know this is coming with LOR, but you could easily add more traits if looking at the doff system and traits different doffs have.

Doff System:- Needs more doff chains i.e. Romulan themed chains (should be in LOR but not found any yet) and also commodities, similar to those that were added with the dominion featured series. Other ideas i had were a xindi chain, founders of federation, a bajoran one. That is just so far.
Also with LOR or after hoping for yridian and sulibon doffs(not sure if you can get them with LOR)

New Reputations :- Memory Alpha or Starfleet/kdf/romulan engineers or something along those lines. (tied to crafting)
Starfleet diplomatic corps - a federation only 1 tied to first contacts and diplomacy themed missions and the associated doff commendation.

Species/Missions/ other stuff:-

Deferi :- More stuff on the deferi, how do they fare after the borg invasion/breen war (for that matter what are the breen upto after thot trel failed); reputation system for deferi(inc doffs, doff chains, commodities and gear)

Ferasans:- Addition of ferasan homeworld(social zone ) for kdf; Ferasan themed ships; doff chains; ferasan ranged and melee weapons, space gear. If the syndicate have melani d'ien, gorn king slathis - who is the ferasan leader? Some ferasan themed missions would also be nice.

Ferengi:- Ferenginar (neutral social/trade hub); addition of more ferengi involved stuff around the game including and tied into the trade commendation that involves transporting trade stuff for the ferengi towards a ferengi reputation system and ferengi themed items; Ferengi themed doff chains; addition of Rom, leeta(non hologram) and Quark(if possible); or even a brand new ferengi charachter.
If the federation has signed an information and technology aggrement with the lobed ones - missions that revolve around this(for kdf trying to stop/or hijack these).

KDF:- KDF Specific Mission ideas:- A great beast Hunt culminating in a feast; Dealing with Gron separatists(not all of them will be happy being subjugated by their klingon overlords) - this could also be applied to an orion terrorists storyline (could also involve roms and feds); More internal politics(bickering, in-fighting etc); also if the Klingons uncovered the undine plot why have they stopped hunting them out?

Feds:- A poll to get a canon charachter in game after tasha/sela - janeway, chakotay, data, paris, ezri dax. Addition of federation headquarters and the federation president and a mission or mission chain involving negotiaons/protection of the president.
How are the outlying federation colonies recovering after the dominion war? (just an idea)
A proper first contact chain of missions from 1st contact to eventual recruitment into the UFP (with end rewards doffs of that species and a boff, unlocking of that species as a playable race as some ideas.

Xindi and sphere builders:- a featured series, set of missions waiting to be done the potential is all there for this :)

Cardassians:- still a lot of unanswered questions here and how cardassia is recovering after the dominion war and also dealing with the true way.

The Tzenkethi:- anything here would be good imo as i know very little about the tzenkethi.

The Borg:- I know people are sick of the borg, but there are still many opportunities for playable missions here.

Augments:- With an augment in facility 4028 there is a potential storyline/terrorist activity waiting to happen to explain why he is here.

Exploration:- A similar idea would be my 1st contact mission chain idea, except not all of them are peacuful, easy negotians etc (some could be potential allies for klinks and roms) but many mission types (space and ground exploration zones for this) all tied into the commendation system for rewards (potential here is very good imho)

New playable species for factions that i would like to see or would make sense imho
KDF:- Xindi-Reptilians, suliban,

Romulans:- Suliban and Yridians, also whats to stop D'tan making a similar offer to the Hirogen? (potential story chain rather than playable species)

Federation:- Deferi, Xindi (except insectoid and aquatics due to technical limitations maybe)

STFs:- Lets see species specific stf's Undine:- starting with terradome remastered :P, and virtually any race in Star Trek canon.

Facility 4028:- continuation and addition of bad guys into this prison system(ie a tholian could now be added to the relevent cell.

That is all I have so far, I will continue to add as i think of more to the thread for discussion and i apologise for the wall of text, but I hope even one of these ideas is considered half decent by a member of our community.
I look forward to reading how this thred progresses......

Here are some of my little ideas....

    1. Now the Big 3 will be in game, what about career paths such as, Klingon Targ Breeder,
Ferengi trader, spy, pirate, etc. (add more if anyone things of some)

    2. Z-store voices for your captain.

    3. Body sliders in the character creator to make overweight captains.

    4. I want to travel the course voyager took to get home. I don't know in what fashion this would take place.

    5. I would like to take part in historical events in Star Trek history. This would cool if it were special events and you would go to ESD, Starfleet Academy, DS9, and enter a holodeck to play it. Imagine replaying the final battle between Kirk and Khan. It would be your Captain there but you would be called Kirk. Or imagine playing as Sisko taking on Dukat like he did in the final episode of DS9.

    6. A nemesis system. Someone tell me why not.

    7. Some sort of Earth invasion. IDK, but imagine a pvp, pve, event, where earth is under attack. Full scale war. If you want a real FED/KDF war, let the KDF reach Earth. Let ESD be damaged or Starfleet academy be destroyed. Then give us missions to complete and ti would be like we are rebuilding after the war. Once a day missions and after so long, starfleet is rebuilt better than ever.

    6. Maybe because the rest of us have no clue what you mean by a 'Nemesis' system.

    7. Klingons have a mission where they attack Utopia Planitia shipyards.
Besides that, it's overabitious and borderline foolish - Damage ESD, Destroy the Academy? How would that effect the game, even conceptually? Can't exactly have the Academy Event at Starfleet Academy if it's been devastated, for example.
In real life, I occasionally play Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 - after the 'Storm Of Chaos' summer campaign a few years back, I remember a memorable response by the Games Workshop team to a similar comment about destroying cities and so forth - The response was that it would affect people whose armies and characters came from specific places that might not want it; a specific example they gave was about someone coming new into Warhammer deciding to make their army from a specific city, only to be told it was destroyed despite nothing in their source materials ever mentioning it.

It's the same reason that no matter how the House of Martok might seeth or Ja'rod might plot, J'mpok will remain Chancellor, why Arrik Okeg keeps getting re-elected as Federation President, Why the Borg Invasion of Defera will be held back and so forth. There are always new players entering the game and so things need a logical progression of change from the source material (I.E. playing through the Romulan Mystery missions and Cloaked Intentions Featured Episodes, then reaching level fifty and being introduced to New Romulus) so that they don't wind up getting confused and deciding to leave because of it.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

A nemesis system- Sorry i imagined that people have the ability to understand. If you understand the letter A the rest is easy. the rest of what you say only tells me you have a closed mind and your ambition rivals that of your knowledge of "a nemesis system". And if you don't understand why I didn't take the time to explain it to you it's because you didn't ask. You decided to be one of those people instead

Felix, dismissiveness ill becomes you. Trekkies are supposed to be better than that.

A Nemesis system, as implemented in Champions Online, is one in which at a certain level you create your ongoing nemesis, someone who will work to oppose you through the game (only in little side missions, but hey). Problem is, Fed characters tend not to have nemeses - it's not in their nature. Klingons might, but they would be members of rival houses (you're on your way into a system, ready to start a mission, but first you deal with an ambush by a cruiser from House Dumbhead, your sworn enemy).

I really don't think it would fit organically into the story in STO, but if anyone disagrees, I'm willing to listen.

And there is no "real Fed-KDF war". That's why cooperation is possible later in the game, as both sides come to realize they're being manipulated into conflict by the Iconians. There's a little cold-war thing, with some actual combat early on, but if the Klingons were serious about a war, then for instance in the early Fed mission where you're escorting an "ambassador" from Vulcan to P'jem and find two Klingon squadrons interdicting the planet, they wouldn't have just been stopping and searching other ships for Undine - they'd have been carpet-bombing the planet.

Halcyon, you have some interesting suggestions. However, I venture to offer that any mission to the Hirogen by the Romulan Republic be no more than a mission chain - I can't imagine the Hirogen reaching an understanding that doesn't involve letting them hunt the way they want to.

Jon you are right there with the hirogen, but as it has been a few years since i have watched any voyager eps my knowledge of them is a little rusty.

As for nemesis system i offer a counter point :- how about adapting champions nemesis system into the mirror version of your captain, that crops up every now and again? even to the point where you could be on an exsisting mission, patrol etc and he turns up to harass you , kind of like how the enterprise/bortas appears in random tau dewa patrols.

Felix you offer a good idea with the hirstorical holodeck missions, just look at enterprise's final episode with Riker studying that mission. There is plenty of source material for this as well and is a welcome suggestion :)

Also possibel fed mission(s)/chain(s) :- If the kdf/section 31 believe there are undine masquerading as high profile federation personnel, there could be an arc where the captain comes into possession of vital information of a suspected imposter, maybe from a ferengi information broker. And said imposter is manipulating a potential war or conflict and it becomes a race against time to stop them.

Player-customizable ship interiors that are used extensively for future FEs or one-off "problem of the week" style missions. And by this, I do not mean using the Foundry to build ship interiors at all.

See the links in my sig for details.

I like the idea, halcyon3, for a nemesis system to perpetuate a conflict between you and your mirror self. That actually seems logical. More so than each player having a seperate nemesis, because everyone does have a mirror self. I love that idea

Also, what about a nemesis system for the Klingons to show house rivalries?

On another idea, for the Klingons, I have always wanted one of my officers to challenge my honor and I be forced to fight by batleth to the death. Or show mercy if you want. How could that be implemented?

I dont know how it could be implemented Felix but that is a very good idea, also the house rivalry system another good idea.
Of course so is the ship interiors and i would love for this to happen, even ship *missions/problems* that start on ship interior.

I also thought about a lore system that appears on a PADD, that gives you entries as you meet different species, ships, named charachters, planets etc and is just something you can read up on about different things in the game. (of course there would have to be different triggers in game for this such as on bajor an entry for the gratitude festival as an example.)
