Faction choice slanted towards KDF?

ixalmarisixalmaris Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Am I the only one to think that the mission to choose a faction as Romulan heavily favors the Klingons?

You are on a Klingon planet, have much more interaction with the Klingons than with the Federation including a cutscene and you fight together with the Kang.
From a story point of view there hardly is any reason to choose Fed over KDF.
I really wonder why Cryptic made the mission the way it is. Is the KDF faction too small so they have to influence players to side with them?

I have never played a Klingon before because I don't like to play the bad/evil faction. I decided to play a Klingon for the beta to help test it out. I opened the PVE que...and they have only one PVE instance (I was around level 25 at the time). It looked like a reskined Gorn Mine Field. The population on the Klingon side, at least on the beta server, is abysmally low. They have less things to do. Why would anyone want to play on that faction? Now I can play a Romulan, be aligned to the good side, have access to a greater population, more PVE stuff to do, and I get battle cloak. In my opinion, the only appeal to being a Klingon was the cloak. Now I can have it without sacrificing a slot. Just my two sense.

I chose KDF on Tribble because that was always the plan for the test character (Romulan science officer)

Mainly because when this goes live I will be going Federation with my Romulans (three reasons none of which involves ships , 1 I was asked to help form/fund a fleet for federation Romulans , 2 My favourite spot in the Game is Risa and I want my Romulans to be able to vacation there ,3 both my favourite missions are Federation)

But yes the Federation ambassador is a moron

It's BOTH. :P Provided you can get through the queue to actually test.

Then why play Fed? XD The Klingons can be seen heavily as the good guys on STO, arguable more so than the Federation. People seem unable to comprehend that Fed's can be portrayed in a negative light.

It isn't really as slanted as everyone claims, however there is much more to test out on KDF side in the test server and it stands to reason as there is newer stuff on KDF side people should be intrigued to try it out.

Although I wouldn't blame them for giving players a swift kick to get them out of a stubborn mindset. Remember this was pretty much a one faction and a half game for far too long.

Also reason people choose KDF is that a)their own unique identity and b) overall the standard of player is much higher KDF side than Fed. Mainly cause you have more chance finding a good KDF player over Fed player in a pug scenario. Feds tended to have nearly all the new players. The running saying in Elite STF's was that if you find you find yourself in a team of KDF pugs you are in safe hands, Fed pugs and you should abandon ship.

In a way the federation started the war by NOT assisting their ally at the time the KDF in removing the undine from the gorn hegemony.

so by refusing to help the KDF after they had proven the gorn had been infiltrated and comprimised by the undine the federation is the one who voided the khitomer accords.

the war is the federations fault though they routinely blame the KDF

Though, all things considered, that decision may have been influenced by Undine infiltrators in the Federation Council and Starfleet Command.

Remember: the goal of the Undine was to destabilize the local powers to such an extreme, then sweep in like a storm and destroy the survivors.

Yeah, until they start torturing people for information and destroying ships that had already surrendered.

Either way the federation did not assist their ally which caused the war so regardless the federation caused the war.

The federation likes to blame everyone and everything else when they start something (Talking canon) a federation ship starts a fight...someones elses fault or something happened that caused the captain to shoot civilians lol

More lore about why, in my opinion, the Klingons are evil...

In fact, the Federation tried to do just that, sending repeated messages from the Federation Council and even a personal plea from Federation President Aennik Okeg to Chancellor J'mpok. The Federation was seeking peace talks or a cease-fire so that groundwork could be made toward a full peace summit.

J'mpok refused. "No longer will we die the death of a thousand cuts," J'mpok told the High Council. "Peace was the death of the Klingon Empire. Thankfully, it was a mistake that we caught in time."

"Conflict makes us Klingon. Combat makes us strong. I write my story with the my blade, and the ink is the blood of my enemies."

On another non related note, I vaguely remember the following (not sure the century is accurate:

Daniel's from the show Enterprise says the Klingons join the federation in the 26th century.

In my opinion - looks like the Feds win

You know, I have wondered on a few occasions if/how the sonic showers get rid of body odors...but apparently Klingons do NOT smell bad...

Doctor Julian Bashir once sarcastically noted that the natural odor produced by Klingons was comparable to an "earthy, peaty aroma with a hint of lilac". (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")

You must not have played the KDF story because it makes clear that the KDF are not evil - they have Worf on their side for goodness sake. KDF and Fed and Rom all share the same PVE queue's these days, the Fed's have SB24 too themselves and I can't think of anything else.

I thought people had given up this line around the time DOFFs went live and every Klingon in the fleet became a biological weapons researcher and part-time pirate and slaver.

They also have a giant military, and consider their own experiment with democracy to be "The Dark Times". Good luck protecting the new Republic from your allies, KDF Romulans!
