...it's the fact that there's a queue for the Tribble test server.
A queue 4703 people long (or 873 people long. It's a bit difficult to tell exactly!)
Given the fact that not everyone who currently plays STO will bother with the test weekend, and that the actual release of LoR will pull in more players than ever before, and the fact that smaller events - like the 3rd anniversary event launch - have caused massive problems for the systems server load, is it not indicitive that come May 21st, STO either needs to have some new servers or you may as well not launch LoR because the servers will be overwhelemed and no-one will get to play on launch day, and the following days.
Now, Cryptic/PWE, is the time to be opening that dusty wallet of yours, cleaning out the cobwebs off the notes, and spending a little of the money you made from all the Lockboxes that have been opened, all the LTS's and Legacy Packs sold and all those who subscribe.
LoR is going to be awesome. But only if we - the players, or rather, the paying customers - are actually able to play it come May 21st.

You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
Every season there is a queue on launch. With a new faction I think we can expect to see a very large spike in users. I can see by evening the game will crash and probably once more over the weekend.
today isn't even patch day and the server keeps saying qued at 956 out of 1065, then suddenly 5600 more hop in line and i am sent to the back of the line, now most ques if your # 956 and any number of people come in behind you, you are still# 956 so either cryptic is letting people cut the que or the number is artificial.

Sigh. That's not what's happening there. You're at say 900 of 956. It says that for 15 to 20 seconds. Then does this weird glitchy nonsense that says you're 5000 out of 5000. Wait a minute. Keep your eyes on the dialog box. It then comes back and flashes that you are 878 out of 956. The queue itself is still intact. You are still in line. You are slowly slowly SLOWLY moving to the front of it.
I'm not sure why it flashes the other weird glitchy number. But the queue itself is fine. I know this because I've been through it twice today.

You're going to have a hell of a job re-posting this in every single whiney thread that gets made about tribble queues but I admire you for trying.
Frankly I figured this out within 30 seconds of hitting a queue, I'm not entirely sure why so many people are struggling with such a simple (and blindingly obvious) concept.
Uhmmm.... Tribble has, compared to Holodeck how much processing power? 2%? 5%?
You are comparing apples and oranges.
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
...I'm not entirely sure why so many people are struggling with such a simple (and blindingly obvious) concept.
There are still people whining their butts off about the D'Deridex's turn rate despite the turn rate buffs being explained to them ad nauseum, and the faction alliance despite having seen the exact impact of faction alliance for themselves by this point.
Brain surgeons these people are not.
Somebody getting uppity about canon? No problem! Just take a deep breath, and repeat after me:
These same people will complain ad nauseum just to complain. They will do so even louder when things are being explained to them, because they want to be able to either hear their own complaining, or read their own complaining.
People will complain on and on and never listen to anything being said to them, then shut up until something else comes up. Then they just repeat it all over again. These people are part of an unending problem in our society, but there's nothing legally that can be done to stop these types of people.
A lot of them are Trolls from Somethingawful.com who want nothing to do but ruin your fun. Not all of the members of that site are like that, however. There are quite a few (the majority of the community there) that want to play and enjoy the game, but there are those bad apples there that ruin the name of that community, much like there are people that do the same in other communities and so on.
I won't just blame SA, I'll also blame Reddit and any other internet community that allows trolls in. I know freedom of speech is awesome and all, but have standards.

I know the feeling, yesterday, AFTER Tribble done with its 2 hour patching job  , I created a Romulan character, and then, when I when to log into the server itself, I get a queue message say that it was full and my current queue was at 23! I minimized it for a couple minutes, then when I brought it back up again, my queue number had RISEN to 253! WTF, did they just decide to skip me!
yup both the server and launcher just had another stroke lol
even though i have already been on for over an hr yesterday maybe the devs should extend the test week end by a day? to allow people a chance to get the the test reward?
I cannot believe this, I can't even play on tribble! This is so unforgivable, I have to quit now because I cannot wait 2 minutes while doing something else. Do you have ANY!!!!!!!111!! idea how long 2 friggggingnn minutes are when on an XTREEEMMEE!!!!11111 caffiene high!?"!"!!??!
Whilst I am as annoyed as anyone who plays this game as regards the opening post:
Who do you think has designed and programmed the content for LoR those spiders who live with the moths on the pile of Money they've accumulated?
To say Cryptic aren't spending money is stupid. They are, and I would point out that LoR is f2p, of course some people will never be satisfied without getting the advanced elite ship for free. Incentives is how they get you to spend money. You get what you pay for, you have it free, free to play or free to not play as you choose.
That being said, whilst there a lot of nice new things coming with LoR, I would have preferred a stable gaming environment if that meant additional servers or more effective partitioning reflective of the expected demand per playing region?
I believe it should be taken as part of the test weekend feedback that current server setup is not fit for purpose for a new expansion to be released. With the expected level of demand both by demands of sthe system required for such content and the number of users likely to be playing it, with both the new expansion and increased visibility of STO with the movie generating interest.

Or the next few days for that matter. I'm keeping well away until the crowds die down.

For everyone else, Stop QQing.
QQ, QQ, QQ, it's constant at the moment!

Seriously every time hear "do not expect to play on patchday" i must scream and i have no mouth.
Yes i expect to play, on patchday, on doomsday even on your birthday.
How effing difficult is it to just rent more capacity and set it up to be used to serve the horde until it disperses again.
Stagger the patch launches of your games and you can retool the servers as needed so that you never get into that fix.
this so much this tribble has much less room then the main holodeck server so not as many people can be on at the same time
. . . . 10min later
11681 out of 11681
!!hope this wont happen after may 21st!!
Remeber 3rd anniversity??
My plan for 21 to 25 may - no STO!!
even though i have already been on for over an hr yesterday maybe the devs should extend the test week end by a day? to allow people a chance to get the the test reward?
GRAHHH!H!!H!H
